27 Kid-Friendly Activities in Fort Worth

Fort Worth is a surprisingly kid-friendly city. Sure, there is plenty for adults only, but there are also tons of things to do for families. We recommend staying at the Sheraton Fort Worth while in town or at the Drover Hotel. Here’s a list of 9 kid-friendly activities in Fort Worth.

1. Forth Worth Zoo

The Forth Worth Zoo is a must-visit attraction for families. It is one of the most well-done zoos our family has visited. Although this isn’t the sprawling type of zoo found on the west coast, it is a pretty decent size and they got an excellent variety of animals. They’ve even added a fun little water park near the front of the zoo making it an even more fun place to visit.

2. Fort Worth Water Gardens

The Fort Worth Water Gardens are found next to the Fort Worth Convention Center is definitely worth visiting. Kids will like walking around and walking down into one of the pools on stepping stones. When we were visiting people were sitting in the water that ran along the steps. I am not sure what the “rule” on this is. I know that people are not supposed to go down into the main pool area at the bottom.

3. Fort Worth Stockyards

There is all kinds of fun to be had while visiting the historic Stockyards. They’ve got original shops, museums, a petting zoo, and more.

• Longhorn Cattle Drive: Be sure to be at the Stockyards be either 11:30 AM or 4:00 Pm on the day you visit because this is when they do the longhorn cattle drive. It only lasts a few minutes, but where else are you gonna see something like this.
• Also fun here is the Cowtown Cattle-pen Maze. Our kids got so turned around in the maze it took over 30 minutes for them to get out. We were able to watch them run around it from a viewing station.
• Billy Bob’s is one of the most famous bars in the United States and kids are allowed in with their parents. I recommend enjoying the free line dances on Thursday evening and then getting your kids out of there before it gets too crowded.

4. Stockyards Championship Rodeo

This rodeo is awesome. Now keep in mind, I’m a Texas girl and I love a good rodeo, but I really think it is a well-done rodeo. It’s not that long, so kids don’t get restless. They always seem to have bull riding, which I guarantee you will hold any kid’s attention, whether they are 7, 11, or 15.

5. Bureau of Engraving and Printing’s Western Currency Facility

This US mint offers a free 45-minute tour. This is one of just two places in the entire nation that prints money. Over half of the US’s currency is produced in Fort Worth. If you are traveling with grandparents be sure to visit, they really seem to enjoy the tour.

6. Sundance Square Plaza

Sundance Square Plaza is a fun place for kids to get wet on a hot day by playing in the free splash pad here. The splash pad is open 2 – 6 PM every day. For parents, there is plenty of covered seating. This is also where you will find the historic Chisholm Trail Mural and plenty of places to eat.

7. Altitude Trampoline Park

This trampoline park is massive and they are not as strict as the trampoline park near where we live, so needless to say all the kids thought this place rocked. 8. Rage Room

The rage room at Smash n Bash is so much fun. You can smash everything in the room. I selected the 30 small items and two big items package. We had 15 minutes to break everything which turns out is just the right amount of time.

9. Splatter Painting

Also at Smash n Bash is splatter painting. You basically throw paint around and create art. They have an optional blacklight experience and I recommend doing it. When you are done you have a piece of art to take home with you.

10. Fort Worth Museum of Science and History

If this is not enough family activities, then you can always drop down to nearby Arlington and hit Six Flags or catch the train over to Dallas for a Stars game. There’s an incredible science center for kids in Dallas, the Perot Museum that is definitely worth driving over for.
