I’ve spent a lot of time galavanting around the globe with my daughter Eden, testing the limits of her patience and mine. And you know what? Traveling with your daughter is a special kind of magic—a magical reminder that you’re not as cool as you thought, but also a chance to bond in ways you never imagined.

Here’s my guide to the 13 best mother-daughter trips around the world. These are the spots where you’ll either create unforgettable memories…or at least have a hilarious story to tell about that one time Mom “ruined everything.”

1. Panama City, Panama

Who knew Panama was more than a hat? It’s like the underrated kid at the travel playground who’s cooler than you thought. Panama City offers a mix of history, adventure, and shopping. The Casco Viejo district is beyond Instagram-worthy, and the Panama Canal is an engineering wonder you will find fascinating.

  • Stay: Bristol Panama
  • Eat: Fonda Lo Que Hay – Local street food in a laid-back spot, perfect for moms who want to pretend they’re still cool.
  • Do: Day trip to the San Blas Islands for swimming, and snorkeling.

Highlight: Head out to the San Blas Islands for pristine beaches and snorkeling. Don’t worry, it’s chill enough that even your moody teenager will approve. Better yet, plan to stay at the beach part of your time in the country. We loved Decameron Panama.

2. New York City, USA

Things to do in NYC with teenagers (1)

Ah, NYC—the place where dreams come true, and so do overpriced food trucks. The beauty of a New York City mother-daughter trip is that there’s something for both of you, whether shopping in SoHo or you’re reliving your 90s obsession with “Friends” at the famous apartment building in Greenwich Village. Don’t forget Broadway, where you can attempt to pass off theater as culture…until she asks why Harry Styles isn’t starring in Wicked.

  • Stay: The Plaza Hotel – Classic, iconic, and expensive. But come on, it’s The Plaza!
  • Eat: Serendipity 3 – Famous for its frozen hot chocolate, which will definitely end up all over her Instagram.
  • Do: Go to Broadway. Whether it’s Wicked or Hamilton, there’s something to make both of you feel cultured.

Highlight: Afternoon tea at The Plaza Hotel.

3. Danube River Cruise, Europe

I mean, if you’re going to travel with your daughter, why not do it in style? Cruising down the Danube River will make you both feel fancy, like you’re in a Bond movie, but with more castles and fewer evil villains. The best part? No flights between countries—just leisurely floating through the heart of Europe, where each stop is its own fairytale town.

  • Stay: Onboard with AmaWaterways – Luxury cruising at its finest, with stops in cities like Budapest and Vienna.
  • Eat: Lunch on the ship is often local specialties, but in Vienna, try Figlmüller for some massive schnitzel.
  • Do: Explore Budapest’s Thermal Baths. Soak in the mineral-rich waters and pretend you’re healing from all the mom-stress.

Highlight: Exploring Budapest together and pretending you’re both royalty at the Buda Castle. Eden may pretend not to care, but we all know she secretly feels like a queen.

4. Tokyo, Japan

Tokyo is where tradition meets tech, which is basically what raising a teenager feels like. Start in Harajuku for quirky fashion (and plenty of eye-rolling from your daughter), then head to a tea ceremony to confuse her even more. It’s fast-paced, fun, and a bit chaotic—just like motherhood.

  • Stay: Park Hyatt Tokyo – Feel like Scarlett Johansson in Lost in Translation for a second.
  • Do: Explore Harajuku for quirky street fashion and a peek into Japan’s pop culture. It’s Eden’s dream; your fashion nightmare.

Highlight: Hitting up a themed café together. Whether it’s cats, robots, or even ninjas, Tokyo’s got a weird café for everyone. Pro tip: Let your daughter pick, so you don’t seem like the ultimate buzzkill.

5. Paris, France

Yes, it’s cliché, but it’s Paris. If there’s anywhere you want to take your daughter before she grows up and starts telling people she raised herself, it’s here. Share croissants, attempt to discuss art at the Louvre, and take a million selfies under the Eiffel Tower.

  • Stay: Le Meurice – Right across from the Louvre, so she can take all the selfies while you admire the art.
  • Eat: Angelina for the best hot chocolate in the city. Trust me, it’s so rich it’s basically a meal.
  • Do: Take a walking tour of Montmartre, the artsy neighborhood where you can pretend you’re both effortlessly chic.

Highlight: A mother-daughter shopping spree on the Champs-Élysées.

6. Santorini, Greece

Santorini looks like someone dipped a postcard in real life. The white-washed buildings and crystal-clear waters make it the perfect place for bonding. Plus, the sunsets? Let’s just say even your too-cool-for-school daughter might drop the sarcasm for a minute.

  • Stay: Canaves Oia Hotel – Luxury cave-style rooms with views that scream “I’m better than you” to all your friends back home.
  • Eat: Lotza- Seaside dining.
  • Do: Sunset sailing tour. Bond on a boat while pretending you’re starring in Mamma Mia.

Highlight: An evening spent lounging in Oia, sipping on mocktails (or real ones for you) while watching the sun dip into the Aegean Sea. Mother-daughter perfection.

7. Reykjavik, Iceland

Iceland

For the adventurous duo who isn’t afraid of a little cold, Iceland is a win. You can bond over the otherworldly landscapes—waterfalls, glaciers, geysers—and the fact that neither of you knew exactly where Iceland was before booking the trip. Plus, the Blue Lagoon will make her spa-worthy Instagram dreams come true.

  • Stay: ION Adventure Hotel – This eco-luxury hotel is close to all the natural wonders you want to explore.
  • Eat: Grillmarkaðurinn – A trendy spot with local flavors like reindeer, puffin, and even whale (but maybe just stick with the salmon).
  • Do: Northern Lights. Sure, you’ll probably freeze, but if you spot them, it’s worth the cold shoulder from your daughter.

Highlight: Chasing the Northern Lights. Even if you don’t catch them, you’ll still get major points for effort.

8. Lisbon, Portugal

Lisbon Trolley

Lisbon is a vibrant, colorful, and packed coastal city with history that somehow feels cool even to teenagers. Wander through the maze-like streets of Alfama, snack on pastéis de nata (custard tarts that are worth the sugar rush), and take tram rides like you’re in a Wes Anderson film.

  • Stay: Bairro Alto Hotel – Stay in the heart of Lisbon’s artsy district.
  • Eat: Time Out Market – A food hall with tons of stalls serving everything from seafood to pastries.
  • Do: Take a day trip to Sintra to explore the magical palaces and feel like you’ve stepped into a fairytale.

Highlight: A day trip to Sintra, where you can explore magical palaces and forests, aka the perfect backdrop for rolling your eyes at each other.

9. Bali, Indonesia

Bali Budget Friendly Honeymoon Destinations

If your ideal mother-daughter trip involves beaches, spas, and a bit of yoga to keep the Zen vibes going (ha, sure), then Bali is your go-to. It’s laid-back and luxurious, with plenty of spots to explore—think temples, waterfalls, and rice terraces that look like they came straight out of a screensaver.

  • Stay: Four Seasons Sayan – Gorgeous villas surrounded by rice fields and jungle.
  • Eat: Locavore – A high-end dining experience in Ubud that’s as Instagrammable as it is delicious.
  • Do: Take a yoga class together and then laugh about how inflexible you are afterward.

Highlight: A traditional Balinese massage at a luxe spa.

10. Edinburgh, Scotland

Scott Monument Edinburgh

If you both love history, castles, and the moody weather that makes cozying up in a pub sound just right, Edinburgh should be on your list. Explore the winding streets, visit the famous Edinburgh Castle, and soak in the old-world charm that’ll have both of you wishing you lived in a Harry Potter novel (spoiler: J.K. Rowling wrote a lot of it here!).

  • Stay: The Balmoral Hotel – A luxurious hotel where J.K. Rowling finished writing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I mean, if that’s not cool, what is?
  • Eat: The Witchery by the Castle – A super atmospheric restaurant with gothic vibes right next to the castle. Eden will either find it totally cool or totally creepy (and maybe both).
  • Do: Climb Arthur’s Seat for panoramic views of the city. It’s an easy enough hike, but Eden will probably still find a reason to call it torture halfway up.

Highlight: Ghost tours at night. Because nothing bonds a mother and daughter like mutually scaring the life out of each other. There are signs for free ghost tours that you can just show up for. That’s what we did. At the end you just tip the ghost guide.

11. Cruising the Caribbean

Allure of the Seas Mother daughter trip

Let’s talk about the time Eden and I cruised the Caribbean on Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas—a floating city where boredom is impossible. Whether you’re zip-lining across the ship, lounging by the pool, or indulging in way too much ice cream, cruising offers a little bit of everything for both mom and daughter. Plus, the Caribbean itself is just an unbeatable backdrop for those sun-soaked bonding moments.

  • Stay: Your floating hotel on Allure of the Seas. Trust me, the rooms are bigger than you’d expect.
  • Eat: Giovanni’s Table onboard for some top-notch Italian fare.
  • Do: Zip-lining on the ship. You’re zip-lining… on a ship. Does it get cooler than that? Eden would say yes, but she’s wrong.

Highlight: Exploring ports like Belize or Cozumel together.

12. Sri Lanka

Whitewater rafting in Sri Lanka is a top thing to do for families with teens

Sri Lanka is the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation, which makes it ideal for the mother-daughter duo who can never decide between “go, go, go” and “sit by the beach all day.” Explore the tea plantations, visit the ancient city of Sigiriya, and if you’re both feeling brave, head on a safari in one of the country’s lush national parks.

  • Stay: Cape Weligama – A luxury resort with infinity pools that scream, “Instagram me.”
  • Eat: Ministry of Crab in Colombo for the freshest seafood. Eden might not care, but you will.
  • Do: Go on a safari in Yala National Park. Leopards, elephants, and…bonding time, in the wild!

Highlight: Taking a scenic train ride from Kandy to Ella. The views of the rolling hills and tea estates will make both of you forget about Wi-Fi for at least a minute.

13. Ireland

Cliffs of Moher in Ireland
Cliffs of Moher in Ireland | Photo by Eden Shamy

If rolling green hills, castles straight out of a fairytale, and pubs with live music sound like your idea of heaven, then Ireland is the ultimate mother-daughter trip. Plus, the locals are so friendly you’ll leave convinced you have at least three new cousins.

  • Do: Cliffs of Moher – Because no trip to Ireland is complete without standing on the edge of a cliff, wind whipping your hair into a bird’s nest, and yelling “I’m the queen of the world!”
  • Stay: Castle Leslie – Because nothing says “quality mother-daughter bonding” like pretending you’re royalty while someone else brings you tea in a literal castle.
  • Eat: Chapter One in Dublin – Michelin-star dining with modern Irish cuisine. You’ll feel fancy while still pretending you know what half the ingredients are.

No matter where you go, the secret to the perfect mother-daughter trip isn’t in the destination—it’s in those moments when you look at each other, laugh, and say, “Can you believe we actually did this?” And if all else fails, there’s always shopping.

Grapevine, Texas, truly comes alive in the fall with GrapeFest, the largest wine festival in the Southwest. The festival’s wine train is a unique experience, offering scenic rides paired with exquisite wines. Stroll down Main Street and indulge in the local culinary scene—I highly recommend eating at one of the charming bistros. And for some family fun, check out Meow Wolf, Great Wolf Lodge, Gaylord, or Chicken and Pickle. You can also go shopping at Grapevine Mills Mall.

4. Belize: A Snorkeler’s Dream and More

Belize in the fall is a tropical dream without the intense heat. The snorkeling here is world-class, with the Belize Barrier Reef teeming with vibrant marine life. Adventure seekers can also float through ancient caves on a tubing tour, which is as thrilling as it is unique. And when it’s time to relax, indulge in one of the country’s many amazing spas for a rejuvenating experience. We recommend staying at Naia Resort and Spa in Placencia Belize.

5. Fredericksburg, Texas: Wine Country Bliss

Asheville is famous for its vibrant fall foliage, making it a prime destination for leaf-peepers. The Blue Ridge Parkway offers some of the most scenic drives in the country, with breathtaking views at every turn. The city’s thriving arts scene and farm-to-table dining make it a great spot for a cozy autumn getaway.

The Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee are a fantastic fall destination, offering misty mountain mornings and vibrant foliage. The park’s numerous hiking trails lead to stunning viewpoints, waterfalls, and historical sites like old Appalachian homesteads. Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, located nearby, offer a mix of family-friendly attractions, cozy cabins, and Southern comfort food. Whether you’re looking to hike, explore, or just relax with a view, the Smokies are a perfect autumn escape. We recommend staying at Embassy Suites by Hilton a Gatlinburg Resort.

No fall travel list is complete without mentioning Vermont. The entire state transforms into a patchwork of red, orange, and yellow during autumn. Take a drive through the countryside to see covered bridges, charming villages, and endless maple trees. Stop by a local sugarhouse to sample fresh maple syrup or enjoy a cup of hot apple cider. Vermont’s cozy inns and B&Bs make it a perfect place to unwind and soak in the season.

After a day of exploring, enjoy fresh lobster and other local seafood in the town’s charming restaurants.

Panama is not near as humid in the fall, making it an ideal time to visit. The Panama Canal is a must-see marvel, but don’t overlook the country’s incredible biodiversity. Spot monkeys and sloths in the lush rainforests, then head to the pristine beaches for some sun and surf. Panama City is also a rising foodie destination, with a vibrant culinary scene that will make any food lover’s heart skip a beat. We recommend staying at Bristol Panama.

Winter has its moments—hot chocolate, cozy fires, and snow-covered landscapes that look straight out of a Hallmark movie. But let’s be real: the charm fades the second you have to scrape ice off your windshield or slip on a patch of black ice. If the cold has overstayed its welcome, it’s time to trade the frost for my favorite footwear, flip-flops. Here are seven sun-drenched destinations that will warm your soul (and your toes) this winter.

1. Belize

Naia Resort and Spa on the beach

Forget the frostbite! Belize calls you to its warm embrace with a symphony of coral reefs, crystal-clear waters, and adventures that sound like something out of a child’s imagination book. Snorkeling in Belize isn’t just swimming; it’s like being teleported into a National Geographic documentary, surrounded by a kaleidoscope of marine life. And if you prefer terra firma, the jungle awaits with open arms. Remember, it’s not sweating; it’s your body’s way of saying, “Thank you for the vitamin D.”

2. Panama

Panama City Panama

Panama, where the engineering marvel of the Panama Canal competes with the natural wonders of its jungles. It’s a place where you can hike through rainforests in the morning and explore the cosmopolitan streets by night. Want to feel like Indiana Jones? Visit an indigenous village. (Don’t climb the waterfall! I feel on my face.) Craving for culinary adventures? The food scene here might just make you consider permanent residency. Just a heads up: the jungle might not have Wi-Fi, but it promises a better connection.

We recommend staying at the Bristol Panama in the city or at Decameron Panama at the beach.

3. Nevis: Not Just Another Caribbean Island

Nevis Peak Hike

If the Caribbean was a royal family, Nevis would be the elegant, less flashy sibling who doesn’t need the spotlight to shine. Its beaches whisper tales of serenity and seclusion, while the historic ruins tell stories of a time gone by. Nevis is the place to go when you want to disconnect and recharge, where the only thing you’ll be uploading is your feet on a hammock.

Wondering where to stay? Check out: Best Nevis Resorts

4. Tampa Bay, Florida: Sunshine State of Mind

4-day Tampa Bay Weekend Getaway

Ah, Florida. You might think you know it, but Tampa Bay is here to surprise you. It’s where you can have breakfast with giraffes (don’t worry, they prefer leaves over pancakes) and scream your lungs out on a roller coaster before lunch. The Florida Aquarium offers a dive into the marine life without getting wet, and the seafood? Let’s just say you’ll understand why the pelicans look so smug. Tampa Bay is where winter goes to retire.

5. The Bahamas: Choose Your Own Tropical Adventure
Cat Island Bahamas

The Bahamas are like a box of chocolates for beach lovers – you never know what you’re gonna get, but it’s all delightful. Cat Island is your go-to for quiet beaches where the waves gently kiss the shore. For those who prefer their beach days with a side of luxury, Nassau’s mega-resorts offer opulence and maybe a celebrity sighting or two. It’s a place where the hardest decision you’ll make is between the beach chair or the hammock.

6. Riviera Maya

Riviera Maya Grand Luxxe Vidanta (1)

Riviera Maya is home to what I happen to think are some of the best beaches in the world. Start your trip by staying at one of the massive resorts on the beach like Xcaret Arte, Grand Palladium Kantenah Riviera Maya, or Vidanta Riviera Maya.

If you decide you want to leave the resort head out and explore the ancient Mayan Ruins of Tulum or Chichen Itza, then cool off in one of the region’s stunning cenotes—these underground swimming holes look like something out of a fairytale. If you love marine life, snorkeling in Akumal Bay gets you up close with sea turtles, while the Great Mayan Reef (the world’s second-largest barrier reef) is a diver’s dream. And when the sun sets, Playa del Carmen’s nearby 5th Avenue is the perfect place to shop, sip margaritas, and dance the night away.

7. Costa Rica

See monkeys in Costa Rica

Costa Rica is where you go when you want adventure, wildlife, and beaches—all in one trip. Zip-line through the cloud forests of Monteverde, spot sloths and monkeys in Manuel Antonio National Park, or soak in the volcanic hot springs of Arenal. If surfing is on your bucket list, Tamarindo is one of the best places to learn. For something unique, take a night tour to see bioluminescent waters glow as you paddle through. And, of course, Costa Rica’s motto is “Pura Vida” (Pure Life), so expect to slow down, relax, and live in the moment.

Wrapping It Up

Whether you’re looking for adventure, history, relaxation, or a mix of all three, these destinations promise one thing: no winter blues in sight. So, grab your swimsuit, book that flight, and trade the snow for sun. After all, the only ice you should be dealing with is in your tropical cocktail.

Get Travel Insurance

Unfortunately, there are a lot of things that can go wrong on any trip. Be prepared for the worst with travel insurance. We use Travelex or Safety Wing (often cheaper).

Book Flights

I use Skyscanner to find flights. I use it so much, I wrote an entire guide to finding cheap flights with Skyscanner! Another option for finding deals is FlightHub.

Book a Place to Stay

I recommend using Expedia.com or Hotels.com for most hotel bookings. I prefer to book directly with Marriott when I stay there because of their excellent military discount.

If you prefer staying in a vacation rental instead, I recommend VRBO. If you are looking for a hostel, I use HostelWorld.

Choose Activities and Tours

To find great activities in any area I use Viator. If we are visiting a city with lots of popular attractions I always check CityPass, PogoPass, and GoCard to see if they have discount cards available. Groupon also tends to have a lot of local travel deals.

When I want to book a full-on multi-day tour I use TourRadar. They’ve got fantastic weekly deals. If going somewhere in Mexico or the Caribbean, I use Apple Vacations.

Rent a Car or Get a Lyft

More often than not, Lyft is cheaper than Uber. Use my Lyft link for an $18 credit! For a car rental in any country, I recommend Hertz or Discover Cars.

Save Money on Gas

Upside a free app gets you cash back on gas! Use promo code RV2Q2 to get an extra 15¢/gal bonus on your first purchase.

Get a Visa

I use iVisa to get all of my Visas.

The last couple of years we’ve been blessed to go to so many new locations that we’d never been to before. I am one of those people that will go anywhere and try anything and basically love everywhere I go but I know that not everyone feels that way. So narrowing down where I think other families should go to as well was tough. I know that many families can only afford one major vacation a year and sometimes only one major vacation every few years. I’ve factored this in when choosing destinations. All of these will be worth the money you spend to be there and provide you with new incredible experiences. Plus, all of these locations are safe.

Panama

Panama City Panama

Panama is a destination that surprised and impressed me from start to finish. Not only is the Panama Canal fascinating to learn about, it brings in people from all over the world which means the foodie scene in Panama is incredible from Panamanian, Chinese, Peruvian, and more. Besides incredible meals they got a range of activities. One day you can see monkeys and sloths and the next tour Casa Viejo the Unesco Heritage site that’s not only hauntingly beautiful to see but is plentiful in shopping, eateries, and rooftop bars. In Panama City we recommend staying at Bristol Hotel.

Once you are done seeing the city you can head out to the beach. You can choose to stay on the Pacific or the Atlantic or do both! When we went to the beach we stayed at Decameron Panama on the Pacific side. If you prefer the Caribbean where the snorkeling is amazing head to the island Bocas Del Toro or to Casa Cayuco where your stay benefits an indigenous community.

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka

If you’ve followed MommyTravels at all over the years you already know our entire family loves Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka has it all: a fascinating history with the ruins of ancient fortresses in the sky, stunning beaches, super fast ziplines, Sri Lankan food, and much more. One day you will be on an elephant safari and the next day you will be in the mountains learning firsthand at a tea factory. This one destination has so much to explore that I think you should spend at least 10 days here. Here are a few articles to help you plan a trip of a lifetime.

Gatlinburg, Tennesee

Gatlinburg

Gatlinburg, Tennessee was another destination that I found super surprising. Talk about underrated. In all my years of traveling, no one ever recommended going here. When I did finally go I loved every minute of it. The hiking and fly fishing in the Smokey Mountains is outstanding. If you do not want to go hiking on your own I suggest booking a tour with Smoky Mountain Guides.

The town itself is absolutely charming and you might even see a bear while you are there. For a super fun family day head up to Anakeesta to do a tree top walk, play on their extensive playground, ride a mountain coaster, and much more. Plus, the food is soul-satisfying at pretty much every restaurant in town. For families on a budget the camping options here are extensive. For those that prefer a hotel I recommend staying at  Embassy Suites Gatlinburg Resort.

Belize

Silk Caye in Belize

Belize was on my bucket list for two decades before I made it there and my goodness it exceeded all expectations. With a perfect mix of adventure, culture, and relaxation Belize is just awesome. With its crystal-clear waters teeming with vibrant marine life, it’s a haven for snorkelers and divers, especially at the world-famous Great Blue Hole. Beyond the sea, Belize boasts ancient Mayan ruins like Xunantunich and Caracol, where history comes alive among lush jungles.

Add in eco-lodges, wildlife sanctuaries, and the warm hospitality of its people, and you have a destination that caters to thrill-seekers and serenity-lovers alike. Whether exploring caves, lounging on pristine beaches, or tasting authentic Creole and Garifuna cuisine, Belize offers an unforgettable tropical escape. I recommend staying at Naia Resort and Spa in Placencia Belize, their spa is incredible.

Nevis

Best Nevis Resorts

Nevis is an actual hidden gem. Any time I recommend Nevis the person has never heard of it. From hiking Nevis Peak and relaxing on pristine Pinney’s Beach to exploring historic plantations and dining on fresh, locally sourced cuisine, every moment feels special. Here are 17 Things to do in Nevis.

I stayed at quite a few Nevis resorts while I was on the island and all of them where a completely different experience from the next. With its commitment to sustainable tourism and lack of large-scale development, Nevis lets you reconnect with nature and experience the Caribbean as it was meant to be—authentic, vibrant, and blissfully serene.

Riviera Maya

The Riviera Maya area just south of the super popular Cancun is gorgeous and more low key. If you want a perfect beach vacation head here. In 2024, I found myself down here 3 separate times each time staying somewhere different. What they all had in common was that I had the best time each time I was there.

There’s so much to do in the area from cenotes to adventure parks to expansive beaches to Mayan Ruins. Plus, the resorts here are massive. You can stay at an all-inclusive like Xcarte Arte or Grand Palladium Kantenah Riviera Maya or at an regular hotel like Vidanta Riviera Maya that still has everything you need.

Western Montana

Hiking in Western Montana

With almost everyone watching Yellowstone, Western Montana easily makes the list. Montana is just as beautiful as the show depicts it to be. Even more so in person. While here you have to stay at a ranch and get your cowboy on. There are many to choose from and I’ve stayed at two I can recommend: High Tail Ranch and Alpine Falls Ranch. The High Tail Ranch even has a few days a year that you can pay to help herd Bison! Also while here you have to go fly fishing (often included in your ranch stay), go hiking, and visit a hot spring.

La Paz, Mexico

La Paz, Mexico, stands out as a top destination for 2025, offering a unique blend of stunning natural wonders and cultural vibrancy. Located along the Sea of Cortez, it’s a paradise for ocean lovers, where you can swim with whale sharks, kayak through turquoise waters, or explore secluded beaches like Balandra. On land, the city charms visitors with its art-filled Malecon, authentic Mexican cuisine, unique hotels, and a relaxed atmosphere.

La Paz also serves as a gateway to many eco-adventures, making it an ideal destination for travelers seeking both relaxation and excitement like us. Whether you’re chasing sunsets on an atv or diving into marine adventures, La Paz is the perfect blend of culture and coastal magic.

Germany’s Romantic Road

Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany

When Eden and I were in Germany we ended up changing our plans after randomly coming across the Romantic Road in Germany when we went to Rothenburg ob der Tauber. (Pictured above.) We were both immediately mesmerized by what we were seeing. That’s why this is the perfect destination for 2025, offering a unique escape into the heart of Europe.

This route winds through enchanting medieval towns, rolling vineyards, and historic castles, making every stop feel like stepping into a storybook. From the iconic Neuschwanstein Castle to the charming streets of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, the journey is a feast for the eyes and soul. Whether you’re exploring cobblestone alleys, indulging in traditional Bavarian cuisine, or cycling along scenic paths, this region is a dream destination that blends history, culture, and breathtaking landscapes into one unforgettable adventure.

Turkey

Pasabag Valley Cappadocia

Turkey offers an unparalleled mix of history, adventure, and natural beauty that captivates visitors of all ages. From the magical hot air balloons of Cappadocia to the thermal travertine pools of Pamukkale, and the ancient ruins of Ephesus to the vibrant bazaars of Istanbul, every stop is a blend of cultural richness and jaw-dropping scenery.

Whether you’re exploring underground cities, splashing in turquoise waterfalls, or wandering the cobbled streets of Antalya’s Old Town, Turkey seamlessly combines learning with fun. Add in delicious kid-approved cuisine and warm, welcoming locals, and Turkey is easily a bucket-list destination.

We hope that where ever life takes you in 2025 it’s the best vacation ever. If you end up taking one of our recommendations tell us about it in the comments below!

Casa Cayuco, an eco-resort reachable only by boat, sits on the Eastern end of Isla Bastimentos, in the Northeastern part of Panama, on the Caribbean Sea. On top of the team’s very real efforts towards sustainability (solar power, rain water harvesting, plant-based and local seafood cuisine), they employ almost two dozen residents of Salt Creek, a nearby indigenous village inhabited by members of the Ngäbe-Buglé community.

Along with donating funds and providing jobs, they also partner with organizations like Pack for a Purpose and Floating Doctors to actively engage in projects like improving schools, sending supplies, and their current key project, opening a medical clinic to promote and empower the residents around health care. Everyone who stays at this serene and gorgeous resort gets a list of supplies they can bring to donate, and a guided tour of the village that lies just beyond the mangroves.

Casa Cayuco Review

I spent 4 nights last October at Casa Cayuco and was blown away by the level of service, the family-style plant-based and local seafood meals, and the remote location on the Caribbean Sea. The various low-key adventures (rainforest hiking, snorkeling, monkey meet-ups) offered several times a day are of very high quality, and I truly enjoyed getting to know the staff who cook, drive the boats, and serve as guides, many of whom are a part of the Salt Creek community mentioned above. I also met all kinds of fellow travelers at meals and on excursions.

HOW TO GET THERE:Boat Dock Bocas Town

Fly into Bocas del Toro airport (BOC), where your guide will pick you up and take you to the boat dock in Bocas Town. From there you’ll zoom on a 35-minute speedboat ride to the resort. The flight is an easy one-hour trip from Panama City’s domestic airport (PAC), which is across town from the international airport (PTY). Definitely plan on exploring Panama City for a couple of days before and after your visit to Casa Cayuco. A jumping-off point for all kinds of adventures, Panama City offers fantastic restaurants, bars, nightlife, history, and of course, the Canal!

ACTIVITIES:hammock Casa Cayuco dock

While the staff at Casa Cayuco is extremely accommodating and enthusiastic, each day at the resort is a casual, choose-your-own-adventure type of experience. You won’t find a concierge, reservations or sign-ups for any activity. Instead, each morning at breakfast your host will present the morning excursions that are available, based on weather and group interest, and everyone decides what to do. At lunch, the afternoon’s options are presented. It takes a moment for us type A travelers to get accustomed to the easy pace and no pressure schedule, but once you relax into it, you’ll find you don’t even need a watch.

Your stay includes your own set of snorkel gear, yoga equipment, paddleboards, and kayaks. Also included is a 2 hour tour of Salt Creek Village. I enjoyed seeing the schoolchildren in their classrooms, talking to their teachers, and understanding a bit better how Casa Cayuco’s neighbors live. We bought local crafts, and the boat ride through the mangroves was stunning.

Salt Creek Mangroves

One afternoon I took a 90 minute hike with some other guests on the Sendero (trail) that starts on Casa Cayuco’s property. We traversed the jungle to the beach, then explored the beautiful shoreline. We even found an abandoned cayuco (the wooden canoes formed from tree trunks for which the resort is named) and snooped around the sparse local dwellings. If you go with a guide, you are quite likely to see sloths, monkeys, and tree dart frogs, and to get help and insight identifying the indigenous plant and bird species along the way.

I also very much enjoyed a boat trip to neighboring Urraca to visit the Monkey Island Foundation, a haven for several types of wayward (but healthy, and very cute and cuddly) rescue monkeys.

A snorkeling trip to Isla Zapatillos is not to be missed. Your guide will take you by boat to some beautiful sites, and will swim with you in the calm turquoise water to help you find and identify incredible specimens of fish and coral. All levels welcome. Trips to snorkel in the mangroves are also available and highly recommended.

Other available excursions include guided visits to a Bat Cave at Bahia Honda, and a sustainable Chocolate Farm (with tastings!), fishing, surfing at Bastimientos Marine Park, and lots more.

Though not included on the “official” Casa Cayuco list of attractions, one night after dinner our main guide José offered to take us on a quick boat excursion to see the bioluminescence, the algae that lights up the sea on clear nights. “It looks like stars in the water,” he said, and he was right. If the conditions are favorable on your visit, don’t miss it. You can even take out a SUP board for the ultimate nighttime paddle. I also pleasantly whiled away several sunsets on the dock with José while he cleaned the day’s catch and fed the local nurse sharks.

ACCOMMODATIONS:Treetops Casa Cayuco

Casa Cayuco offers a variety of spacious, open air accommodations, from seaside bungalows to a fantastic multi-floor house in the treetops, to rooms in the lodge and a jungle bunkhouse. The entire property offers free wifi and hosts 38 guests total.

Ceiling fans and mosquito nets bring tropical authenticity to your experience. There is no air conditioning, and I experienced several torrential rain storms on my visit, all comfortably from my airy room. The jungle does get damp, so bring a wireless phone charger, but leave your hairdryer at home.

DINING:afternoon snack Casa Cayuco

All meals are served family-style, announced by the sound of a conch horn. The delicious buffet-style offerings at breakfast and lunch vary every day, ranging from Panamanian specialties like rice and plantains, native fruits and vegetables, and favorites like hummus and homemade breads, plus a daily afternoon snack that will be delivered to you in your hammock or wherever you may be relaxing. Dinner brings a three-course plated meal, often revolving around local seafood, and finishing with a lovely homemade dessert nightly. The satisfying plant based cuisine can be modified for special diets–just let your host know ahead of time. Alcohol is not included in the price, but a tight selection of cocktails, organic wines, and beer are always available, along with juices and smoothies. afternoonsnack Casa Cayuco

For that special occasion, you can ask your host for dinner to be served on the porch at your bungalow, or have them set up a romantic candlelit dining table on the dock.

BOOKING:excursion Casa Cayuco

Book your visit online. The team will provide you with plenty of guidance and lots more information about your stay, including advice on tipping and things to do elsewhere in the remarkable country of Panama.

Business travel can be both exciting and daunting. While travel is always exciting, finding the right place to stay can be quite daunting. When in Panama, Bristol Panama is a must-visit boutique luxury hotel. Situated in the heart of Panama City, this hotel offers a unique blend of Central American charm, boutique luxury, and modern conveniences. Business travelers need not worry about a thing, as this hotel has been designed to cater to their every need.

Bristol Panama Provides Boutique Luxury Hotel Experience for Business Travelers

Bristol Panama, A Registry Collection Hotel was the 1st luxury boutique hotel in Panama when it originally operated as a Rosewood. It continues to exceed expectations now as a Registry Collection Hotel. So those wanting to use or earn Wyndham points can here. Throughout the hotel is a fabulous collection of art representing past to present from 1997 through today. Past to present.

Location

Panama City is a busy place, and where you stay could make or break your experience. Bristol Panama is situated right in the heart of this bustling city, making it the perfect location for business travelers who don’t have time to waste on commuting. The location of the hotel is perfect for guests who want to experience all that Panama City has to offer. From shopping to nightlife, you’ll find everything at your doorstep. Located in the financial district.

If you are catching a cruise like Windstar from Panama City this is a fantastic place to stay.

RoomsRegular Room Executive Tower Bristol Panama

Bristol Panama has two towers, a classic tower and the new executive tower offering a combined 130 rooms and 45 apartments. The classic tower offers a more basic rate and is ideal for business people. Regardless of which tower you stay in you can expect rooms to be spacious with elegant decor and plenty of amenities.

There are two categories of rooms available- Deluxe and Suites. The deluxe rooms come with either a king-size bed or two beds, with a well-equipped bathroom. The suites have a separate living room area and a magnificent bathroom.

The bed linens, towels, and comfy bathrobes are all carefully selected to bring you a luxurious experience. Every room is equipped with wifi, comfortable bedding, and 24/7 room service. The room service is excellent here.

Bristol Panama

It seemed like most of the rooms have bathtubs which I know is important to Japanese and Chinese travelers. My favorite feature in the room was the clothing steamer that they filled with water so it was ready to be used as soon as I was ready. The Nespresso was also ready to go with water already in it which I appreciated. They offer two types of coffee in the room both sourced locally.

SalsipuedesSalsipuedes

The main restaurant at the hotel is Salsipuedes. Their menu is inspired by six influences including Peruvian, indigenous, Panamanian, Mexican, Chinese street food, and Italian. The bartender here was recruited from Peru by the hotel manager and needless to say his Pisco Sour is next level. They also offer an interesting Aperol cocktail that is mixed with grapefruit juice and mezcal.

I found the food overall to be outstanding. I wasn’t expecting to have a true foodie experience during my visit but it ended up being one of the highlights of my trip. They’ve made food a high priority and it shows.

BBar

BBar at Bristol PanamaBBar is their brand new lobby bar named after the owner’s daughter Bee and is serving up some seriously delicious cocktails and Mediterranean tapas.

I highly recommend the Lady Light cocktail, it’s a grapefruit spritzer made with Aperol, grapefruit, and tonic water. My other recommendation would be Dante’s drink, named after one of one of Bee’s friends. This cocktail is made with Spanish wine, Campari, Vermouth, and American whiskey. For those that prefer something a bit sour try the Alba lychee link drink made with rose extract, gin, and lemon. I don’t like sour but even I had to admit it was a great cocktail.

For food, I recommend two things. First the brisket slider and second the burrata. Their burrata is unlike any others I have had because of the way they season it.

Room ServiceRoom service at Bristol Panama

The room service here is excellent. I had the steak and french fries, but the real standout was the quatro leches cake. It was beyond good. The cake is also available at their restaurant.

Spa

Bristol Panama Spa

I had a decadent treatment while I stayed here. It was a relaxation massage and a quick 15-minute facial. The women’s relaxation area overlooks the city with incredible views. After your treatment, you can enjoy a glass of champagne while soaking in the scenery. The feature photo is the photo I snapped doing just that!

Ceviche-making classCeviche Making Class at Bristol Panama

One of the activities offered at the hotel I found to be quite good was their ceviche-making class. Now I’ve made ceviche at this point 5 or 6 times at other resorts but their ceviche was a completely new experience. They use unusual ingredients like sweet potato puree. Weeks later I am still thinking about that sweet potato puree. They told me how to make it and I forgot!

Fitness Center and Lap Pool

Bristol Panama Pool

They have a gym with treadmills, a row machine, elliptical machines, and more. There were free weights and a few weight machines. Just outside of the gym is a lap pool you can use as well.

Facilities

The hotel boasts several facilities that cater to the needs of business travelers. The hotels have several meeting rooms that can accommodate different group sizes, from small to large. There is also a banquet hall with state-of-the-art audio/video equipment, perfect for conferences, exhibitions, or private events. The staff at Bristol Panama is also multilingual, ensuring that communication is never a barrier.

Service

The staff at Bristol Panama is warm, welcoming, and efficient. The hotel is designed to provide you with a luxury experience, and the staff goes above and beyond to ensure that your stay is memorable. The staff is trained to provide you with the best possible service. Every guest is greeted with a welcome drink upon arrival. The housekeeping staff ensures that the rooms are spotlessly clean, and the restaurant staff provides you with personalized attention.

They also have a doctor on call 24 hours a day.

Traveling to Panama for business or pleasure should be an enjoyable experience. With Bristol Panama, you are guaranteed a luxurious and unforgettable experience. From the perfect location to comfortable accommodation, Bristol Panama caters to your every need. This boutique luxury hotel leaves no stone unturned in making your stay as comfortable as possible. Nestled between South America and Central America, Panama is often one of those underrated spots that people tend to overlook as a tourist destination. But what you are missing out on is the fact that Panama is a treasure trove of amazing adventures that are waiting to be explored.

From exploring the water bodies on a cruise through the Panama Canal to ziplining through the forests, the list of activities is pretty much endless. The scenic beauty of this place is adorned with lush greenery and crystal-clear waters.

As a nature lover, exploring Panama should be at the top of your bucket list. This article will explore some of the most amazing adventures you can explore in Panama.

Explore the Panama CanalPanama Canal

While you are in Panama, the first thing in the itinerary should be to explore the Panama Canal. It is regarded as one of the best “engineering feats in history” and rightfully so. When in Panama, this is the absolute first thing you need to do.

The best way to explore the Panama Canal is by taking a boat and traveling through the canal as you admire the impressive locks that act as a passageway for giant ships.

Zipline through the forest

If you aren’t afraid of heights and want to test your luck exploring the green forests, Ziplining is an activity you wouldn’t want to miss out on.

For those who aren’t aware, Panama is home to some of the most breathtaking rainforests in the world. And, if you want to explore the beauty of it from a height, a zipline is a great way of achieving that. This is one of those activities that get your adrenaline pumping all the while providing a unique perspective on things.

Snorkel or dive in the Caribbean Seaisla-diablo

Another unique yet popular activity to indulge in the Caribbean Sea is snorkeling or diving into the sea. The Caribbean Sea is located off the coast of Panama.

But, the best part of this one-of-a-kind underwater experience is the marine life you get to explore underwater. Underneath the stunning crystal-clear water, there’s a whole different life out there.

Surf the Pacific wavesPanama

This isn’t for the faint of heart or for people who aren’t trained. However, if you are a good surfer and want to work against the humongous waves thrashing against the shore of the beaches on the Pacific Ocean, this is an activity you wouldn’t want to miss out on.

What’s great is that there are training spots for beginners too if you want to dance against the waves. It will take a lot of work and precaution though.

La Piedra Lino Hike

It may be considered one of the less strenuous hikes in Boquete regarding geographical distance, but it will tax the muscles the hardest! This 1.3 km walk included a severe rise in altitude of 434 meters. In other words, you move up one meter for every three meters you move forward. The trek is worthwhile, though, for the vantage point of Boquete from the highest cliff.

Lino’s rock is referred to as La Piedra De Lino. Only four km separated the modest Boquete neighborhood of Lino from the town’s center. As you climb to the pinnacle of the rock, there is plenty to look at, including flowers, fruit, and glances at the scenery.

Bird Watching

Panama is home to 1000 bird species, including 59 different hummingbird species and the rarely seen quetzal.

The gorgeous birds are found in unbelievable quantities in Panama. Pipeline Road, the Panama Rainforest Discovery Centre, Soberania National Park, La Amistad International Park, Sendero de Los Quetzales, Chagres National Park, and Darien National Park are a few of the most widely recognized spots for bird watching. If you are planning on moving to Panama or even just traveling, you can be assured of ample birding opportunities.

The dazzling quetzal, the large green or scarlet macaw, the keel-billed toucan, the smaller violetear, the harpy eagle, the armored aracari, or one of the 320 distinct kinds of hummingbirds are among the most exciting creatures to spot. Don’t forget to bring your binoculars

Island HoppingIsland Hopping in Panama

Panama has almost 1400 islands. There is plenty for every style of beach explorer, with a diverse selection of fauna, an exhilarating nightlife, white-sand beaches, and unmatched scenery.

Bocas Del Toro is undoubtedly the most widely recognized, giving you a genuinely Caribbean Island adventure. There are nine islands in the easily accessible island series. Several bird-watching opportunities exist, including calm coastlines, bars, and eateries. If you want to break free, check out the iconic Nasty Fridays, the first and only island-hopping party cruise in Central America.

Trek to Baru Volcano

The Baru Volcano, a sizable dynamic volcano that soars to about 4000 meters in height, can be seen from Boquete’s lofty top.

Although it’s an exhausting and tiresome trek, the hike to the Baru Volcano from Boquete is one of the most enjoyable activities to do in Panama.

You may enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains, down to the Pacific and Caribbean coasts, on the most renowned trail, a 6-hour walk from the city.

Discover El Valle de Anton

Visit El Valle de Anton to view the world’s second-largest populated volcano crater for an unforgettable trip. A little settlement called The Valley can be located within the cavity of a dormant volcano.

It’s a beautiful site for trekking, and because it’s colder than the adjoining shorelines, it’s starting to draw visitors from Panama City.

Kayaking

Several serene lakes and many Central American continent streams surround Panama. So, there are many chances for you to take pleasure in kayaking in Panama. By kayaking, you may take in the nation’s stunning natural splendor. Try your kayaking prowess while seeing a picturesque sunset from the middle of a gorgeous lake. Take advantage of the opportunity to kayak in the Chiriqui River and view breathtaking landscapes and wildlife here.

Where to Stay in Panama
