Gaylord Texan ICE!

Every year from November until early January, the Gaylord Texan in Grapevine, Texas, has a Christmas event called ICE! During Ice, there are a variety of things you can do at the Gaylord. The most popular is walking through the massive ICE displays.

Ice Slides

Every year, the slides are one of the highlights. Kids will zip down 20 times. Adults will participate once and then offer to “hold the bags.”

On the BLOCKS Ice Bar

One of the coolest “extras” at ICE! is the in-tent bar experience (called On the Blocks), designed specifically for guests 21 and older.

• What it is: A small, exclusive bar inside the ICE! attraction where, for an additional upgrade, adults can enjoy a festive cocktail or beverage.
• Who can do it: Only guests 21 and older, and you must already have an ICE! ticket — the “On the Blocks” drink-upgrade is a separate add-on you purchase before you enter ICE!.
• Why it’s worth it: It offers a fun, festive break — a cozy spot to warm up (somewhat) and treat yourself while the kids rediscover the ice slides. Just be aware: the ice bar is still inside the same 9°F environment, so gloves + warm clothes are still a must even if you’re holding a holiday cocktail!

Nativity

No matter what the theme is, each year the last ice room is always the same. A beautiful sculpture of an angel and the nativity scene. It’s always stunning.

Some of these pictures are from when we went in 2014. The theme that year was Frosty the Snowman. No matter what the theme is each year it always ends with a nativity scene. All of the Elf-themed photos are from 2025. 

Cold Temperatures

It is super cold in the ICE room (9 °F). They do give you heavy coats to put on to help protect you from the cold. You do not have to pay extra for these blue coats; they are included in the price of admission. Even with the extra coats, Jonah could barely stand to be in the room. We ended up rushing through after standing in line forever to walk through. He was seven at the time, so based on that I think your kid needs to be at least eight years old to withstand the cold. Your kids will need to wear gloves, hat, and a coat. If your kids have thermals, I would have them wear them.

We had to stand in line forever to get into the ICE! room. I recommend going at an off-peak time or buying a line pass. If you stay at the hotel, you get to bypass the regular line. I think this alone makes it worth staying at the hotel.

The entire hotel is decorated inside and outside. Making for constant photo ops.

Parking

It costs $25 to park in the self-parking lot, but at least the parking garage has a nice view of the front of the hotel. It’s a good spot for a photo opp of the hotel. It’s $45 to valet. During the ICE event, they sell pre-paid parking starting at $20. Prices seem to depend on how busy they will be each day.

ICE! and Snow Tubing Combo Pricing

When we went, we got the combined tickets for snow tubing and the ICE! room. I can’t remember what we paid, but we did get a military discount. When we went, you only got to tube a handful of times, but now you get to go unlimited times. That makes it worth getting the tubing option. Here are the current prices for the combo tickets.

Height Restrictions

You must be at least: 42-inches tall to ride by yourself on a small tube. Riders taller than 52”/132cm MUST ride in a large tube. There is no weight limit for tubbing.

Almost all packages include this scavenger hunt. We did this, and it took about 2.5 hours to find 10 hidden elves. My son was rewarded with a coloring book for finishing. Although we had a lot of fun doing the scavenger hunt, he hated the prize. Not sure what he thought he would win.

It’s crowded and the combination of freezing cold and excited children is… chaotic.

4. Bring gloves for everyone.

Trust me — fingers freeze fastest.

5. Prepare for Texas-sized pricing.

Is ICE! Worth It?

Absolutely — especially if you love holiday traditions, dazzling artistry, and the magic of seeing your kids lose their minds over sparkly frozen sculptures. It’s a once-a-year experience that brings the story of Elf to life in a way you’ll never see anywhere else.

Plus, you get to tell everyone you survived nine degrees in Texas.

For something with a bit more personality and storytelling, head to Bonnie & Clyde’s Hideout. The vibe is speakeasy-meets-cocktail-lounge, inspired by the infamous outlaw duo. It’s intimate, the service is friendly, and the dishes taste like they were made by someone’s Italian uncle who has very strong opinions about garlic. You’ll find classics like veal Marsala, shrimp scampi, ravioli, and one of the better tiramisus in the area, so save room for dessert!

Chez Fabien

Chez Fabien is a French-inspired bistro on Main Street with a cozy interior and one of the most versatile menus in town. You can come for brunch and enjoy crepes, croissants, and quiches. You can come for lunch and get salads, sandwiches, burgers, or steak frites. And you can come for dinner and enjoy well-executed bistro dishes like salmon, pasta, or tenderloin. It’s consistent, delicious, and works for every type of traveler—families, couples, friend groups, picky eaters, and adventurous eaters alike.

Zeppole Coastal Italian

Located inside the Gaylord Texan, Zeppole is elevated, pretty, and ideal for travelers who want a nicer dining experience without leaving the property. Yes, the wildly creative art collective Meow Wolf has landed in Texas — and it’s inside a mall.
“The Real Unreal” is:

• A mind-bending, trippy, immersive art experience
• 30+ rooms of interactive storytelling, glowing tunnels, and hidden doorways by 40 local artists
• Like Willy Wonka meets Stranger Things, with less child endangerment

This is great for teens, adults, and anyone who’s ever wanted to crawl through a refrigerator into another dimension. (Note: separate timed-entry ticket required.)

SEA LIFE Aquarium

This indoor aquarium is home to a variety of marine creatures, including sharks, sea turtles, rays, and more. Kids can get up close and personal with these fascinating creatures and even touch some of them. Yes, you read that right.

• A 360° ocean tunnel where sharks swim above you (because nothing says “Texas mall” like being eyeballed by a stingray).
• Hands-on touch pools for the kids to pet starfish and learn something useful.
• Sea Turtle Hospital
• A puffer fish that looks like it has blue eyes (it doesn’t, it just has spots near it’s eyes.)

It’s indoors, air-conditioned, and stroller-friendly — 10/10, highly recommend.

Bubble Planet

The newest attraction to open up at Grapevine Mills Mall is Bubble Planet. It’s 11 immersive rooms all themed around bubbles or balls great for all ages! Make sure to wear socks or bring some with you.

LEGOLAND Discovery Center

If your kids think LEGO is life, this place is for you. LEGOLAND Discovery Center includes:

• Rides (yes, rides inside the mall)
• A 4D cinema
• A massive play zone
• MINILAND, a replica of the Dallas/Fort Worth area made entirely out of LEGO bricks. Even the cowboy boots.

Fun Fact: Adults must be accompanied by a child, unless it’s one of their rare adult-only nights (you know, for those of us who still want to build Hogwarts in peace).

AMC Theaters

The mall has a large AMC movie theater where families can catch the latest blockbuster films.

Play Area

The mall features a fun indoor play area for kids to run around and burn off some energy.

Round 1 Bowling & Amusement

Part bowling alley, part arcade, part karaoke lounge, and somehow also a full-blown food joint — Round1 is like Chuck E. Cheese grew up, got cool, and started dating Dave & Buster’s.

There are claw machines (so many), ping pong tables, darts, billiards, and plenty of places to sit down when your kids are melting down from overstimulation.

Fieldhouse USA

This 100,000+ sq. ft. indoor sports complex is attached to the mall and offers:

• Basketball, volleyball, and futsal courts
• Open gym times for families
• Organized youth leagues, camps, and tournaments

Great for sporty kids or for burning off sugar-fueled chaos after your stop at Nestlé Toll House Café.

The Escape Game

This interactive adventure game challenges players to solve puzzles and escape from a locked room. It’s a fun and challenging activity for older kids and teens. We haven’t done this location but we did one of them at their sister location in Grandscape and it was super well done.

Peppa Pig World of Play

Do you have a toddler who speaks fluent British pig like my little niece? Then Peppa Pig World of Play will be your holy grail. Inside this pastel dreamland, you’ll find:

• Peppa’s house
• George’s Dinosaur Room
• Madame Gazelle’s School
• An indoor playground that will absolutely wear your kid out

Bonus: It’s cute enough that you won’t mind watching your kid climb the same plastic hill 43 times.

Teens always seem to have a good time at a trampoline park. This one has a lot of trampolines, a tumble track, a ropes course, a climbing wall, a playground, a warrior course, dodgeball, and more. Teens will love scaling the walls and ziplining at Fritz’s Adventure. I took my son with one of his friends and they had a blast. They did two of the more challenging courses both of which take you outside the building. One had them going down a bunch of ziplines and the other had them literally climbing the wall! 26. World Springs

Take your teens to spend a day hot tubbing!  I’ve taken two of my kids and they both loved it. It’s super relaxing and good for you. For the parent its’a great way to spend time with them just chilling out and talking. They have waiters that will bring you drinks and if you get hungry they do have a small selection of food items.  This is located at Grandscape.

27. Ax Throwing

Ax throwing is a lot more fun than you would think. Some places are certainly much better than others. My current favorite in the DFW area is in Grapevine at Corky’s Gaming Bistro. Plus, they’ve got a super fun darts game. I’ve been twice, and both times it was a total blast. My teens loved it. I noticed a lot of ax-throwing deals on Groupon.

28. Sky Zone Frisco

One of the newest trampoline parks to open in the area and quickly becoming one of our favorites! Sky Zone Frisco has trampolines, interactive video games, slides, a zip line, a giant play structure, and more.

29. Puttery

I just recently found out that the Puttery at Grandscape is family-friendly. When it first opened, it was for adults only, but not anymore. They’ve got 4 mini-golf courses you can play, a fantastic restaurant, and for the parents, there’s a bar. For one price, you can play all day.

I chose the wineries myself from their list of included partners. They had quite a few options to pick from, and—being the visual person I am—I narrowed it down based on photos. (Let’s be honest, if it doesn’t look cute on Instagram, did it even happen?) They also had a few “premium” wineries available for an additional fee, but I decided to stick with the ones included in the base price. Our stops ended up being Barons Creek, Meierstone Vineyards, and Texas Wine Collective.

The Setup

Our group was split between two sprinter vans, which worked out perfectly. Both vans were clean, comfortable, and equipped with air conditioning—a necessity in Texas. Each van also had a small cooler stocked with bottled water, which was a thoughtful touch and something we actually needed between stops. Our drivers were two college students who were, quite honestly, fantastic. They were friendly, professional, and rolled with our group’s chatty energy all day. They kept everything on time, handled all the winery coordination, and even tolerated our off-key van sing-alongs (sorry about that, guys).

We were picked up at 10:30 AM right from our rental house, which made things super convenient. The plan was to visit three wineries over the course of the day, then get dropped back off mid-afternoon. We actually finished around 2 PM, a bit earlier than scheduled, but that worked out fine since most of us were happily wined-out by then.

Stop 1: Barons Creek

Our first stop was Barons Creek, a large and polished winery that feels a bit like a European estate plopped into the Texas Hill Country. The courtyard is lovely, with beautiful architecture and plenty of photo ops. The tasting room is spacious, and the wines were solid—nothing mind-blowing, but a nice way to start the day. Service was friendly but a little rushed, which is understandable considering how busy this place gets on weekends. It’s one of the more popular wineries in the area, so don’t expect an intimate tasting, but it does set the stage for the rest of the day nicely.

Stop 2: Meierstone Vineyards

The highlight of our tour, hands down, was Meierstone Vineyards. If you only take one thing away from this review, let it be this: make sure Meierstone is one of your stops. It’s smaller and more personal than some of the big-name wineries, and that’s exactly what makes it special. We got to meet the actual winemaker, who shared their story, explained their process, and guided us through the tasting. You could really feel their passion for what they do, and it gave the whole experience a much more authentic and educational feel.

The wines themselves were good—complex, well-balanced, and clearly crafted with care. Even members of our group who weren’t big wine drinkers were happy because they have cocktails. Beyond the wine, the property is gorgeous. It’s the kind of place that feels effortlessly cool without trying too hard—modern, rustic, and full of charm. Between the old barns, scenic views, and tasting patio, it’s a total photo op goldmine. Everyone in our group ended up snapping pictures for at least 15 minutes before we even started tasting.

If you’re looking for a winery that’s equal parts educational and Instagram-worthy, Meierstone checks both boxes. We could’ve easily stayed longer, and it was the one stop that everyone agreed was worth a return visit.

Stop 3: Texas Wine Collective

Our final stop was Texas Wine Collective, and while it wasn’t bad by any means, it was our group’s least favorite. It’s a larger, more commercial winery with multiple tasting areas and a steady flow of big tour groups coming and going. After the intimate vibe at Meierstone, this one felt a little impersonal. The wines were decent, but the experience lacked the warmth and connection we’d enjoyed earlier in the day. If you’re new to wine tasting, you’ll probably enjoy the variety here, but for our group, it just didn’t have the same charm.

Lunch (Sort Of)

I had planned ahead and brought a charcuterie board and sandwiches for everyone, thinking we could enjoy them at one of the wineries between tastings. Unfortunately, that plan didn’t work out quite as expected. Our drivers let us know that outside food isn’t allowed at the wineries, which makes sense from their perspective but wasn’t exactly what I’d envisioned. So, we improvised and had a little rolling picnic in the vans between stops. It wasn’t glamorous, but it got the job done. If you’re planning a tour like this, just know you’ll need to eat before or after—or check if your chosen wineries offer food options.

Also, a quick note for planners: the coolers in the vans are fairly small, so if you’re bringing your own snacks, don’t expect to fit a big spread. Our charcuterie board definitely didn’t fit, though we made it work.

Timing and Pacing

Each stop lasted atleast an hour and a half, which felt a little long for our group. After two wineries, most of us were ready to move on sooner, especially since the tastings themselves don’t take that long. Still, I can see how others might appreciate the leisurely pace—if you’re the type who likes to sit, sip, and soak in the atmosphere, you’ll love the slower rhythm.

Since we wrapped up earlier than expected (around 2 PM), we had plenty of time afterward to relax by the pool at our rental house, which honestly felt like the perfect way to end the day.

Overall Impressions

All in all, 830 Elevated Wine Tours did a fantastic job. Coordinating a group of 15 isn’t easy, but they made it look effortless. The vans were comfortable, the drivers were friendly and professional, and the whole day ran smoothly from start to finish. It’s one of those experiences where you truly get to just sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride—literally.

Would I book with them again? Absolutely. But next time, I’d make a few small tweaks:

• I’d double-check which wineries allow food ahead of time or plan a lunch stop between tastings.
• I’d shorten the time at each stop just a bit or choose wineries with additional activities or shaded seating to fill the downtime.
• And I’d definitely make sure Meierstone Vineyards is on the list again.
