WHY GRAPEVINE IS THE CHRISTMAS CAPITAL OF TEXAS

The Texas State Senate made it official in 2009, designating Grapevine as the Christmas Capital of Texas. This recognition came after years of the city proving its commitment to holiday excellence.

More than 1,400 festive Christmas events over 40 days transform Grapevine into a storybook destination, attracting over two million visitors annually. The town sits conveniently in the heart of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, making it accessible for both local and out-of-state guests.

Newsweek readers voted Grapevine Best Christmas Town, and the celebration earned recognition as one of the American Bus Association’s Best of the Best Festivals and Events for 2025. These accolades reflect the extraordinary effort Grapevine puts into creating an authentic Christmas experience.

The festivities kick off the Monday before Thanksgiving and continue through New Year’s Day. Millions of lights illuminate Historic Main Street, larger-than-life decorations create perfect photo opportunities, and animated characters bring joy to visitors of all ages. Free parking throughout Historic Main Street makes accessing the magic simple and stress-free.

Season Timeline and Key Dates

The town kicks off the festivities the Monday before Thanksgiving and doesn’t let up until the new year. This extended celebration gives you flexibility in planning your visit.

The opening ceremony, Carol of Lights, launches the season with a spectacular street lighting event. Kids’ activities, food vendors, and live entertainment set the festive tone for everything that follows.

Peak weekends fill up quickly, especially the first two weekends of December when major events like the Parade of Lights take place. Weekday visits offer smaller crowds while still delivering the full Christmas experience. Hotels book months in advance during peak times, so early planning becomes essential for securing your preferred accommodations.

PLANNING TIPS FOR YOUR GRAPEVINE CHRISTMAS TRIP

Ticket Purchasing Strategies

Buy tickets for popular attractions like Santa’s North Pole Express and ICE! as soon as they go on sale, typically in early October. Only purchase through official websites to avoid fraudulent tickets sold by third parties.

Bundle tickets when possible to save money. Package deals combining multiple attractions offer discounts up to 40 percent compared to individual ticket purchases. Overnight guests at participating hotels often receive ticket discounts and priority access to events.

Transportation and Parking

Parking is free throughout Historic Main Street, removing one expense from your trip. However, Main Street closes to vehicle traffic on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings during peak season, requiring alternative parking and walking.

DFW International Airport sits just minutes from Grapevine, making the town easily accessible for visitors flying in. Rental cars provide flexibility for exploring attractions spread across the area. Ride-sharing services operate throughout Grapevine.

Weather Considerations

Texas winter weather can be unpredictable with temperatures ranging from mild to chilly. Dress in layers to adjust as temperatures fluctuate throughout the day. Evening temperatures drop significantly, so bring jackets for outdoor activities.

Most major attractions operate rain or shine. Indoor options like ICE!, Great Wolf Lodge, shopping malls, and restaurants ensure you always have entertainment regardless of weather conditions.

Crowd Management

Weekdays see smaller crowds than weekends, especially the first two weekends of December. Early morning and late afternoon times for popular attractions typically have shorter wait times than mid-day slots.

Many events require advance ticket purchases with assigned time slots, helping manage crowd sizes. Arrive early for free events like the Parade of Lights and drone shows to secure good viewing spots.

Budget Considerations

Hotel packages bundling accommodations with event tickets provide the best value. Three-night stays often qualify for additional discounts. Marriott Bonvoy members receive special rates and earn bonus points.

Free events include the Carol of Lights, Parade of Lights, drone shows, and walking tours of decorated Main Street. Many restaurants offer reasonable prices alongside their upscale counterparts. Strategic planning lets you experience Grapevine’s Christmas magic at various price points.

Duration of Stay

A weekend provides enough time to hit major highlights like the North Pole Express, ICE!, ice skating, and dining on Main Street. A three to four day trip allows a more relaxed pace with time for shopping, additional attractions, and exploring the area.

Extended stays let you experience multiple major events that occur on specific days like the Parade of Lights and drone shows. The variety of 1,400 events over 40 days means you will not run out of activities regardless of trip length.

Fort Worth Stockyards

The Grapevine Vintage Railroad runs regular excursions to the historic Fort Worth Stockyards, about 30 minutes away. The area features Western-themed shopping, restaurants, and daily cattle drives. The stockyards maintain their Old West atmosphere year-round.

Grapevine Lake

Multiple parks surround the lake offering hiking trails, picnic areas, and scenic views. The Gaylord Texan Resort overlooks the lake, and several restaurants provide lakeside dining. The recreational area provides outdoor options when you need a break from Christmas crowds.

DFW Area Attractions

Grapevine’s central location in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex puts you within an hour of numerous attractions. Dallas offers museums, professional sports, and diverse dining scenes. Fort Worth provides cultural attractions like the Kimbell Art Museum and Fort Worth Zoo.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS FOR FAMILIES

Age-Appropriate Activities

Grapevine’s Christmas offerings cater to all age groups, but some experiences work better for specific ages. The North Pole Express delights children ages three to ten the most, though families with older or younger kids still enjoy the experience.

ICE! accommodates all ages with the carved sculptures fascinating adults and ice slides thrilling children. The cold temperature inside requires warm clothing for everyone. Babies may need lots of extra layers beyond the provided parkas. Better yet, don’t bring a baby.

LEGOLAND Discovery Center targets children ages three to ten with hands-on building activities and themed rides. Teenagers may find it too juvenile unless they are LEGO enthusiasts. Great Wolf Lodge appeals to a wider age range with its variety of water slides and pools.

Accessibility Information

Most major attractions provide wheelchair access and accommodations for guests with disabilities. The Grapevine Vintage Railroad uses a lift to board passengers who cannot use stairs. ICE! provides wheelchair access throughout the attraction.

Peace Plaza Ice Rink accommodates guests with mobility challenges, and staff can assist with equipment. Restaurants on Main Street vary in accessibility with older buildings sometimes presenting challenges. Call ahead to confirm specific needs.

Stroller-Friendly Considerations

Historic Main Street’s sidewalks accommodate strollers, though weekend crowds can make navigation challenging. ICE! allows strollers, but the cold temperatures and ice-covered floors require caution. Many families choose to carry young children or use front carriers instead.

Gaylord Texan Resort provides ample space for strollers throughout its facilities. Great Wolf Lodge welcomes strollers in public areas but prohibits them in the water park for safety reasons.

PHOTOGRAPHY OPPORTUNITIES

Christmas in Grapevine creates countless photo opportunities for preserving memories and sharing on social media.

Best Photo Spots

 • Under the 60-foot Christmas tree at Peace Plaza: The massive illuminated tree provides a stunning backdrop for family portraits. Evening photos capture the full effect of the lights.
 • ICE! sculptures: Every room offers unique backdrops with colorful ice carvings. The iconic Elf movie scenes recreated in ice make memorable photos.
 • North Pole Express train: Both inside the vintage coaches and outside with the decorated train create classic Christmas photos. Professional photographers capture free photos with Santa included in your ticket price.
 • Historic Main Street lights: The buildings decorated with millions of lights create magical evening photography opportunities. The vintage architecture adds charm to every shot.
 • Gaylord Texan atrium: The indoor gardens decorated for Christmas provide beautiful backdrops without weather concerns.

DINING RESERVATIONS AND TIMING

Popular restaurants fill quickly during the Christmas season, especially on weekends and around major events.

Make reservations weeks in advance for upscale restaurants like Perry’s Steakhouse and Winewood Grill. Esparza’s does not take reservations, so expect waits during peak times. Arriving when restaurants open or later in the evening reduces wait times.

Overnight guests at Gaylord Texan receive priority access to dining reservations at resort restaurants. This perk proves valuable when on-site restaurants book solid during peak times.

Quick-service options and casual eateries generally accommodate walk-ins, though lunch and dinner rushes mean you might wait. Eating slightly off-peak hours gives you more flexibility.

SAFETY AND SECURITY TIPS

Large crowds during peak events require extra vigilance, especially with children.

Keeping Families Together

Establish meeting points if family members get separated. Historic Main Street landmarks like the Christmas tree or specific shops work well as gathering spots. Exchange cell phone numbers with older children who carry phones.

Younger children can wear identification bracelets with parent contact information. Taking photos of children at the start of each day helps identify what they are wearing if they become lost.

Protecting Belongings

Crowded events create opportunities for pickpockets. Keep wallets, phones, and valuables in front pockets or secure bags. Avoid leaving items unattended in strollers or on restaurant tables.

Hotel rooms provide safes for storing passports, extra cash, and valuable jewelry. Most attractions allow small bags but prohibit large backpacks in certain areas.

Weather-Related Safety

Check weather forecasts and dress appropriately. Sudden cold fronts can drop temperatures significantly. Layering allows adjustments as temperatures change throughout the day.

ICE! provides parkas, but guests should wear warm clothing underneath. Long pants and closed-toe shoes are required. The 9-degree temperature inside affects visitors differently, so know your cold tolerance.

After exploring everything Grapevine offers during Christmas, I believe this town represents what the holidays should truly feel like. The commitment to creating authentic experiences rather than commercialized attractions sets Grapevine apart from other Christmas destinations. From the friendly staff at every venue to the attention to detail in decorations, you can feel that this community genuinely loves Christmas. The designation as Christmas Capital of Texas is not just a title but an accurate description of a place that understands how to celebrate the season right.

2. Birdly
Birdly

They have two VR bird simulators where you soar through the air and they are so much fun. I was laughing so hard I didn’t do so well. That’s Eden lying down playing the game. We all did the same course so we could compete against each other. I lost and Jonah won. Noah was a close second. Get a AREA15 Access Level 1 Experience Pass.

3. Illuminarium

Illuminarium is an immersive tech-driven experience with an exclusive menu of infused spirits, offering visitors unique cocktails in a variety of flavors. Wink World

Wink World was super random and super loud. It’s a quick 20-minute whimsical experience where you walk through six different rooms and a hallway featuring six infinity mirror rooms full of hypnotic lights and colors. Museum Fiasco is a 5,000 sq ft kunsthalle museum with an emphasis on light and sound.

10. AR Dodgeball

All-new attractions like AR Dodgeball allow visitors to play virtual dodgeball in augmented reality. AR Dodgeball made its debut in April. 12 Things to do at Area15 in Las Vegas

Get Travel Insurance

Unfortunately, there are a lot of things that can go wrong on any trip. Be prepared for the worst with travel insurance. We use Travelex or Safety Wing (often cheaper).

Book Flights

I use Skyscanner to find flights. I use it so much, I wrote an entire guide to finding cheap flights with Skyscanner! Another option for finding deals is FlightHub.

Book a Place to Stay

I recommend using Expedia.com or Hotels.com for most hotel bookings. I prefer to book directly with Marriott when I stay there because of their excellent military discount.

If you prefer staying in a vacation rental instead, I recommend VRBO. If you are looking for a hostel, I use HostelWorld.

Choose Activities and Tours

To find great activities in any area I use Viator. If we are visiting a city with lots of popular attractions I always check CityPass, PogoPass, and GoCard to see if they have discount cards available. Groupon also tends to have a lot of local travel deals.

When I want to book a full-on multi-day tour I use TourRadar. They’ve got fantastic weekly deals. If going somewhere in Mexico or the Caribbean, I use Apple Vacations.

Rent a Car or Get a Lyft

More often than not, Lyft is cheaper than Uber. Use my Lyft link for an $18 credit! For a car rental in any country, I recommend Hertz or Discover Cars.

Save Money on Gas

Upside a free app gets you cash back on gas! Use promo code RV2Q2 to get an extra 15¢/gal bonus on your first purchase.

Get a Visa

I use iVisa to get all of my Visas.

Planning a holiday trip to the Dallas–Fort Worth area and wondering if ICE! at the Gaylord Texan is worth it this year? The 2025–2026 ICE! attraction brings the story of Elf to life with more than two million pounds of hand-carved ice sculptures, frozen slides, and immersive holiday scenes inside a 9-degree winter wonderland. Whether you’re visiting with kids, planning a festive weekend getaway, or looking for the best Christmas activities in Texas, this guide breaks down everything you need to know — including this year’s dates, what’s new, what to expect inside, and tips for making the most of your visit.

Gaylord Texan ICE

Gaylord Texan ICE!

Every year from November until early January, the Gaylord Texan in Grapevine, Texas, has a Christmas event called ICE! During Ice, there are a variety of things you can do at the Gaylord. The most popular is walking through the massive ICE displays.

Gaylord Texan ICE

Ice Slides

Ice Slides at ICE! Gaylord Texan

Every year, the slides are one of the highlights. Kids will zip down 20 times. Adults will participate once and then offer to “hold the bags.”

On the BLOCKS Ice Bar

One of the coolest “extras” at ICE! is the in-tent bar experience (called On the Blocks), designed specifically for guests 21 and older.

 • What it is: A small, exclusive bar inside the ICE! attraction where, for an additional upgrade, adults can enjoy a festive cocktail or beverage.
 • Who can do it: Only guests 21 and older, and you must already have an ICE! ticket — the “On the Blocks” drink-upgrade is a separate add-on you purchase before you enter ICE!.
 • Why it’s worth it: It offers a fun, festive break — a cozy spot to warm up (somewhat) and treat yourself while the kids rediscover the ice slides. Just be aware: the ice bar is still inside the same 9°F environment, so gloves + warm clothes are still a must even if you’re holding a holiday cocktail!

Nativity

Gaylord ICE

No matter what the theme is, each year the last ice room is always the same. A beautiful sculpture of an angel and the nativity scene. It’s always stunning.

Gaylord Texan ICE

Some of these pictures are from when we went in 2014. The theme that year was Frosty the Snowman. No matter what the theme is each year it always ends with a nativity scene. All of the Elf-themed photos are from 2025.

Cold Temperatures

Elf at ICE! Gaylord Texan
Elf at ICE! Gaylord Texan | Photo by Meagan Wristen

It is super cold in the ICE room (9 °F). They do give you heavy coats to put on to help protect you from the cold. You do not have to pay extra for these blue coats; they are included in the price of admission. Even with the extra coats, Jonah could barely stand to be in the room. We ended up rushing through after standing in line forever to walk through. He was seven at the time, so based on that I think your kid needs to be at least eight years old to withstand the cold. Your kids will need to wear gloves, hat, and a coat. If your kids have thermals, I would have them wear them.

We had to stand in line forever to get into the ICE! room. I recommend going at an off-peak time or buying a line pass. If you stay at the hotel, you get to bypass the regular line. I think this alone makes it worth staying at the hotel.

Gaylord ICE

The entire hotel is decorated inside and outside. Making for constant photo ops.

Parking

Gaylord Texan

It costs $25 to park in the self-parking lot, but at least the parking garage has a nice view of the front of the hotel. It’s a good spot for a photo opp of the hotel. It’s $45 to valet. During the ICE event, they sell pre-paid parking starting at $20. Prices seem to depend on how busy they will be each day.

ICE! and Snow Tubing Combo Pricing

When we went, we got the combined tickets for snow tubing and the ICE! room. I can’t remember what we paid, but we did get a military discount. When we went, you only got to tube a handful of times, but now you get to go unlimited times. That makes it worth getting the tubing option. Here are the current prices for the combo tickets.

Snow Tubbing at ICE! Gaylord Texan
Snow Tubbing at ICE! Gaylord Texan | Photo by Meagan Wristen
Adult$44.32
Child (ages 4 – 12)$36.32
Child (ages 3 and Under)$18.99

Includes ICE! Ticket + unlimited Snow Tubing runs.

Height Restrictions

You must be at least: 42-inches tall to ride by yourself on a small tube. Riders taller than 52”/132cm MUST ride in a large tube. There is no weight limit for tubbing.

Other activities available during the Lone Star Christmas:

The Elf on the Shelf® Scavenger Hunt

Almost all packages include this scavenger hunt. We did this, and it took about 2.5 hours to find 10 hidden elves. My son was rewarded with a coloring book for finishing. Although we had a lot of fun doing the scavenger hunt, he hated the prize. Not sure what he thought he would win.

Santa’s Snowball Throwing Workshop

Cookies & Milk with Mrs. Claus

Gingerbread Decorating Corner (gingerbread man kit)

Glacier Glide Ice Skating

Ice Skating at ICE! Gaylord Texan

There’s a small ice rink at ICE and ice skates you can rent. Try to be the first out on the fresh ice for the best experience. The ice will get worse throughout the day.

Christmas Carousel

Tips for Visiting ICE!

Elf at ICE! Gaylord Texan
Elf at ICE! Gaylord Texan | Photo by Meagan Wristen

1. Go early in the season or on weekdays.

Weekends can get packed. Like, “why did we do this to ourselves?” packed.

2. Buy tickets in advance.

Popular time slots sell out every year.

3. Keep your kids close in the tent.

It’s crowded and the combination of freezing cold and excited children is… chaotic.

4. Bring gloves for everyone.

Trust me — fingers freeze fastest.

5. Prepare for Texas-sized pricing.

Combo tickets for ICE! and other attractions vary year to year. Prices change often, so check the official Gaylord Texan Christmas website for current rates.

Is ICE! Worth It?

Absolutely — especially if you love holiday traditions, dazzling artistry, and the magic of seeing your kids lose their minds over sparkly frozen sculptures. It’s a once-a-year experience that brings the story of Elf to life in a way you’ll never see anywhere else.

Plus, you get to tell everyone you survived nine degrees in Texas.

Grapevine may be famous for wineries, twinkle lights, and being the Christmas Capital of Texas, but let’s be honest: the food scene is what will have you planning your next trip before you’ve even finished your first meal. This town is packed with everything from indulgent breakfasts to upscale dinners, casual bites, and comfort food so good you’ll momentarily forget you’re supposed to be “eating light” on vacation. Whether you’re here for a girls’ getaway, a family trip, or a quick weekend escape, these are the best places to eat in Grapevine, carefully picked after spending more time than I’d like to admit thinking about where to eat next.

OldWest Café

Old West Café

If your ideal breakfast involves plates so big they barely fit on the table, OldWest Café will feel like home. This is the kind of place where the waitress calls you “hon,” the coffee flows without asking, and the pancakes are the size of steering wheels. Their menu reads like a love letter to breakfast lovers, with every combination of eggs, bacon, sausage, French toast, and biscuits you could dream of. The cinnamon roll French toast is the move if you’re ready to go all in, but the hearty skillets and omelets are just as satisfying.

Don’t be alarmed if there’s a wait; this place is wildly popular with locals and visitors. The good news is that the food comes out quickly, the portions are huge, and you’ll roll out full and extremely content. I had the huevos rancheros with a side of tomatoes, and they were fantastic.

Sauce’d Pizza & Smashburgers

Sauce’d Pizza & Smashburgers

A trip to Grapevine isn’t complete without a stop at Sauce’d, according to my kids, who love it because sometimes you just need carbs and the comfort of a perfectly blistered, wood-fired pizza. Their pies strike that sweet spot between traditional and creative, with great crust, quality toppings, and zero fuss.

If you’re more in a burger mood, the smashburgers deliver crispy edges, juicy centers, and that nostalgic diner flavor that reminds you why smashburgers are superior to every other burger style. The vibe is casual, family-friendly, and easy, making it a great choice after exploring Main Street, hitting the wineries, or when you just want something reliably good without making a reservation.

Napoli’s Italian Kitchen & Market

Napoli’s Italian Kitchen & Market

Napoli’s feels like walking into a cozy neighborhood Italian restaurant you wish you lived closer to. It’s warm, welcoming, and full of exactly the kind of food you crave after a busy day of shopping, wine tasting, or wrangling children through Christmas festivities.

The pasta dishes are hearty, saucy, and comforting, with favorites like chicken parm, lasagna, and fettuccine Alfredo. They also have a market with Italian staples and freshly-made goodies you’ll convince yourself you need to bring home, even though we all know it’ll never make it on the plane. Napoli’s is perfect for a relaxed lunch or dinner when you want something satisfying and familiar.

Tolbert’s Restaurant & Chili Parlor

Tolbert’s Restaurant & Chili Parlor

Tolbert’s is a Grapevine institution, and if you haven’t tried their famous Bowl of Red, you haven’t fully experienced Texas. This is no-nonsense comfort food: hearty chili, chili burgers, frito pie, and everything else you’re absolutely not supposed to eat before putting on skinny jeans.

Located right on Main Street, Tolbert’s also offers live music 7 nights a week, giving it a lively, laid-back atmosphere. If you want a casual spot that feels like classic Texas, Tolbert’s delivers every time. It’s the perfect stop when you want something filling and flavorful without breaking the bank or putting on anything fancier than jeans.

Wine Fusion Winery

Wine Fusion is more of a small-plates-and-wine-flights situation, which is ideal if you’re out for a girls’ weekend, date night, or just pretending you’re the kind of person who pairs wine with food on purpose. They offer flatbreads, dips, charcuterie, and light bites that are great for sharing. The bacon, jalapeno stuffed tater kegs are a must-eat.

Esparza’s Restaurante Mexicano

Esparza’s Restaurante Mexicano

Esparza’s is the unofficial headquarters of Tex-Mex cravings in Grapevine. It has a cheery, bustling vibe, huge margaritas, and all the classics: fajitas, enchiladas, queso, tamales, and everything that pairs beautifully with chips and a patio. Known for their massive portions and lively dining room, Esparza’s is especially fun during the holidays or on weekend evenings when the atmosphere feels festive without being chaotic. It’s also walkable from Main Street, making it an easy choice if you’re already out exploring. If you want a guaranteed crowd-pleaser for families or groups, this is it.

Bonnie & Clyde’s Hideout

Bonnie & Clyde’s Hideout

For something with a bit more personality and storytelling, head to Bonnie & Clyde’s Hideout. The vibe is speakeasy-meets-cocktail-lounge, inspired by the infamous outlaw duo. Expect craft cocktails, elevated bar bites, moody lighting, and a setting that feels built for swapping stories. It’s the perfect pre-dinner or post-dinner spot, but also works as a light-meal option if you just want appetizers and drinks. Fyi: that baby wedge is massive!

Cafe Italia

Cafe Italia

Cafe Italia is one of those hidden-gem Italian restaurants that locals love and visitors instantly add to their list of repeat spots. It’s intimate, the service is friendly, and the dishes taste like they were made by someone’s Italian uncle who has very strong opinions about garlic. You’ll find classics like veal Marsala, shrimp scampi, ravioli, and one of the better tiramisus in the area, so save room for dessert!

Chez Fabien

Chez Fabien

Chez Fabien is a French-inspired bistro on Main Street with a cozy interior and one of the most versatile menus in town. You can come for brunch and enjoy crepes, croissants, and quiches. You can come for lunch and get salads, sandwiches, burgers, or steak frites. And you can come for dinner and enjoy well-executed bistro dishes like salmon, pasta, or tenderloin. It’s consistent, delicious, and works for every type of traveler—families, couples, friend groups, picky eaters, and adventurous eaters alike.

Zeppole Coastal Italian

Zeppole Gaylord Texan

Located inside the Gaylord Texan, Zeppole is elevated, pretty, and ideal for travelers who want a nicer dining experience without leaving the property. Even if you’re not staying at the Gaylord, dining at Zeppole is a fun way to soak in the hotel’s over-the-top décor and resort atmosphere. The menu includes coastal-inspired Italian dishes like seafood pastas, steaks, salads, and fresh bread served warm enough to burn your fingers. It’s a polished, special-occasion option perfect for travelers looking for an upscale evening.

Son of a Butcher

If you love sliders, Son of a Butcher is your new happy place. This restaurant specializes in gourmet mini-burgers with inventive flavor combinations, making it easy to try three or four without committing to one big burger. They also serve delicious fries, tots, shakes, and boozy milkshakes. Teens love it, adults love it, and it’s a great casual option that feels fun while still offering great quality. It’s perfect for a quick lunch or a low-key dinner before wandering around Grapevine Mills or Main Street.

Rock & Brews

Rock and Brews

Rock & Brews is a lively, rock-themed restaurant that works well for families, groups, or anyone who wants a low-stress dining environment with a huge menu. Think burgers, wings, pizzas, sandwiches, salads, and an extensive beer selection. The rock-and-roll décor makes it fun, and the food is reliably solid. It’s the kind of place where you can sit back, relax, and know everyone in your group will find something they want, including your pickiest eater. (If you were super bummed they closed their Grandscape location, you’ll be happy to know that yes, this is the same place!)

ZaTaR Mediterranean at Harvest Hall

ZaTaR Mediterranean at Harvest Hall

Harvest Hall is Grapevine’s stylish food hall, and ZaTaR is one of the best stops within it in my opinion. ZaTaR specializes in Mediterranean dishes like shawarma, kebabs, hummus, falafel, and salads. Everything tastes fresh and flavorful, and it’s a nice change of pace if you’ve been eating your way through Tex-Mex and Italian all weekend. The food is quick, affordable, and perfect for travelers who want something flavorful. You can order from a qr code and they will bring it into the bar to your table.

From breakfast feasts to Italian comfort food, craft cocktails, and absolutely unnecessary amounts of carbs, Grapevine delivers on every craving. Whether you’re here for a wine weekend, a girls’ getaway, or your annual Christmas pilgrimage, these restaurants are the ones worth putting on your must-eat list.

Grapevine Mills Mall https://www.mommytravels.net/grapevine-mills-mall/ https://www.mommytravels.net/grapevine-mills-mall/#respond Fri, 05 Dec 2025 19:04:57 +0000 https://www.mommytravels.net/?p=39277 Discover everything to do at Grapevine Mills Mall in Texas—from outlet shopping and SEA LIFE Aquarium to Meow Wolf, Peppa Pig World of Play, and LEGOLAND. A must-visit for families!

The post Grapevine Mills Mall appeared first on Mommy Travels.

]]>

If you find yourself in the Dallas–Fort Worth area and your family vacation is teetering between “fun-filled” and “Lord help me,” allow me to introduce you to the unsung hero of local entertainment: Grapevine Mills Mall.

This is not your average mall. No, Grapevine Mills is the Beyoncé of outlet malls — glamorous, a little extra, and somehow still universally beloved. It’s where you can shop designer deals, feed stingrays, and lose your children in a 30,000-square-foot Lego paradise (on purpose).

So grab your comfy shoes, charge your phone, and prepare to be surprised. This mall is built in one massive loop. It’s basically the Texas version of walking a track, but with way more carbs and impulse purchases. If you walk the full circle, congrats — you’ve just clocked over a mile.

Meow WolfMeow Wolf

Yes, the wildly creative art collective Meow Wolf has landed in Texas — and it’s inside a mall.
“The Real Unreal” is:

 • A mind-bending, trippy, immersive art experience
 • 30+ rooms of interactive storytelling, glowing tunnels, and hidden doorways by 40 local artists
 • Like Willy Wonka meets Stranger Things, with less child endangerment

This is great for teens, adults, and anyone who’s ever wanted to crawl through a refrigerator into another dimension. (Note: separate timed-entry ticket required.)

SEA LIFE Aquarium

SEA LIFE Aquarium Grapevine Mills Mall

This indoor aquarium is home to a variety of marine creatures, including sharks, sea turtles, rays, and more. Kids can get up close and personal with these fascinating creatures and even touch some of them. Yes, you read that right.

 • A 360° ocean tunnel where sharks swim above you (because nothing says “Texas mall” like being eyeballed by a stingray).
 • Hands-on touch pools for the kids to pet starfish and learn something useful.
 • Sea Turtle Hospital
 • A puffer fish that looks like it has blue eyes (it doesn’t, it just has spots near it’s eyes.)

It’s indoors, air-conditioned, and stroller-friendly — 10/10, highly recommend.

Bubble Planet

Bubble Planet at Grapevine Mills Mall

The newest attraction to open up at Grapevine Mills Mall is Bubble Planet. It’s 11 immersive rooms all themed around bubbles or balls great for all ages! Make sure to wear socks or bring some with you.

LEGOLAND Discovery Center

LEGOLAND Discovery Center

If your kids think LEGO is life, this place is for you. LEGOLAND Discovery Center includes:

 • Rides (yes, rides inside the mall)
 • A 4D cinema
 • A massive play zone
 • MINILAND, a replica of the Dallas/Fort Worth area made entirely out of LEGO bricks. Even the cowboy boots.

Fun Fact: Adults must be accompanied by a child, unless it’s one of their rare adult-only nights (you know, for those of us who still want to build Hogwarts in peace).

AMC Theaters

The mall has a large AMC movie theater where families can catch the latest blockbuster films.

Play Area

The mall features a fun indoor play area for kids to run around and burn off some energy.

Round 1 Bowling & Amusement

Part bowling alley, part arcade, part karaoke lounge, and somehow also a full-blown food joint — Round1 is like Chuck E. Cheese grew up, got cool, and started dating Dave & Buster’s.

There are claw machines (so many), ping pong tables, darts, billiards, and plenty of places to sit down when your kids are melting down from overstimulation.

Fieldhouse USA

Fieldhouse USA

This 100,000+ sq. ft. indoor sports complex is attached to the mall and offers:

 • Basketball, volleyball, and futsal courts
 • Open gym times for families
 • Organized youth leagues, camps, and tournaments

Great for sporty kids or for burning off sugar-fueled chaos after your stop at Nestlé Toll House Café.

The Escape Game

The Escape Game Grapevine Mills Mall
The Escape Game Grapevine Mills Mall | Photo by Meagan Wristen

This interactive adventure game challenges players to solve puzzles and escape from a locked room. It’s a fun and challenging activity for older kids and teens. We haven’t done this location but we did one of them at their sister location in Grandscape and it was super well done.

Peppa Pig World of Play

Peppa Pig

Do you have a toddler who speaks fluent British pig like my little niece? Then Peppa Pig World of Play will be your holy grail. Inside this pastel dreamland, you’ll find:

 • Peppa’s house
 • George’s Dinosaur Room
 • Madame Gazelle’s School
 • An indoor playground that will absolutely wear your kid out

Bonus: It’s cute enough that you won’t mind watching your kid climb the same plastic hill 43 times.

If you want even more Peppa Pig be sure to check out the Peppa Pig Theme Park in nearby North Richland Hills.

Overall, Grapevine Mills Mall has plenty of options for families with children, whether you’re looking for entertainment, dining, or shopping. The best hotel to stay at nearby is the Gaylord Texan

Have you been to Grapevine Mills Mall? What was your favorite thing to do (or buy)? Let me know in the comments — bonus points if it involved something ridiculously fun or totally unexpected.

Hood River is a wine lovers dream come true. Sure, they are known as the windsurfing capital of America, but they happen to also be home to some of the best wine in the state of Oregon.

Hood River is just an hour east of Portland and on your way out there, you will be treated to epic views of the scenic Columbia Gorge River. If you decide to stop along the way, there are a number of excellent waterfall hikes. Once you arrive one of the best things to do in Hood River is visiting a few wineries.

If you have kids like me, you need the winery to be kid-friendly. I’ve found myself in the area a few times now, and each time I’ve managed to find one or two more wineries that won’t bore your children to tears.

8 Kid-Friendly Wineries in Hood River

After lots of “research”, I’ve found the most kid-friendly wineries in Hood River. How do I decide if a winery is kid-friendly? There are a few things I factor in. I look for places that have games, a playground, or something else that will keep kids happy. Happy wine tasting!

Stave & Stone Winery at the Vineyard

Stave & Stone Winery at the Vineyard
Stave & Stone Winery at the Vineyard

This place is extremely family-friendly, but to be perfectly honest their wine is not great. It’s not the wine you go for though, well it is, but not the whole reason. The main reason is it’s super kid-friendly when their wine garden is open and the food is good. There’s a massive lawn where kids can play corn hole and other lawn games while parents do a wine tasting! I recommend not doing a tasting here instead, pick out your favorite type of wine and having a glass with food. Kids are not allowed in the tasting room or on the patio.

Stave & Stone Winery at the Vineyard is located at:

Hood River, OR. 97031

March: Thurs-Mon 11-6
April – October 11:00-7:00
November – March 11:00-6:00

Lavender farm in Hood RiverOn the way out to Stave and Stone stop at the old lavender farm. It’s located at 3801 Straight Hill Rd, Hood River, OR 97031. The new lavender farm is next door to Stave and Stone.

Wy’East Vineyards

Wy’East Vineyards
Playing Bocce Ball at Wy’East Vineyards

Wy’East is another winery I happen to think is super kid-friendly because they offer bocce ball. They have two bocce ball courts and instructions, so even if you’ve never played you can figure it out! I didn’t do a full tasting here, but the one wine I tried was good.

Wy’East is located at 3189 Hwy. 35, Hood River.

April 6–late October: Daily 11–5 daily or so. You may want to call ahead to make sure they are open, 541-386-1277.

November and December, early Spring: Saturday and Sunday noon to 5.

Grateful Vineyards

Grateful Vineyards
The views at Grateful Vineyards are epic.

They have pizza, a cow the kids can visit, and a playground. Plus, there’s plenty of room to roam around and tables for playing games. You just have to bring a game with you. I don’t recall much about the wine, but I do remember their cider. They offer both!

Located at 6670 Trout Creek Ridge Road, Mount Hood, Oregon

Open Sunday – Thursday 11 AM – 6 PM, Friday -Saturday 11 AM – 7 PM.

Hood Crest Winery
img 3060

I have mixed feelings about Hood Crest Winery, but there’s no denying that it’s super kid-friendly. They’ve got a sandbox for younger kids to play in, a little play kitchen, and tiny kid-size chairs. They also serve food. If you order food you must also order wine, but you are at a winery, so of course, you are getting wine. The only downside here is the staff is a tad rude. They have live music sometimes.

Hood Crest Winery is located at 1908 Orchard Road, Hood River, OR 97031.

Phone: 541-716-0140

Open Daily: 11:00 am to 6:00 pm

Marchesi Vineyards
img 3059

In my opinion, Marchesi Vineyards has the best wine in Hood River, based on the handful of places I have visited. They do not have games or any other things for kids to do, but they have two porch swings that I think kids would enjoy. They have blankets for you to use as well. They will do your tasting out on the porch, so it’s easy to sit with kids playing a game and relaxing while you are here. A tasting here costs $15 and a small charcuterie board costs $12.

Wines you should try:

 • Ciaplot
 • Tempranillo

AniChe Cellars

I have yet to make it out to AniChe Cellars. Both times I’ve tried they were closed. You will need to make sure they are open before visiting. This winery is not in Hood River, it’s right across the river in Washington. I happen to know it’s kid-friendly because 2 Travel Dads told me! In fact, they wrote about it too. You can read their review of AniChe Cellars to make a more informed decision. According to them, they have bubbles and hula hoops for kids. Plus, they serve snacks.

Gorge White House
The Gorge White House Winery in Hood River

I ask a local where to go and she directed us to the Gorge White House. They’ve got pear wine and a food cart on site serving locally sourced sandwiches and flatbreads. The pear flatbread is outstanding. I recommend getting a flight here because all of the wine is great.

Occasionally, they have live music and they’ve got u-pick fruit and flowers. Kids can run around while you try wine. The last time we were out there they had several cornhole sets around. I recommend bringing a few games with you like Otrio or Uno The Gorge White House in Hood River

The Gorge White House is located at 2265 Hwy 35, Hood River.

April and May we are open Friday-Monday 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. June 17th they go to 7 days a week and stay open until 7 p.m.! In October they go back to Friday – Monday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Hawkin Cellars

Hawkins Cellars
Photo from Hawkins Cellars

Hawkins Cellars is one of Hood River’s most family-friendly wineries, making it an easy stop whether you’re sipping solo or rolling in with kids in tow. The laid-back tasting room has plenty of space, the outdoor seating is relaxed and scenic, and the staff never makes you feel like you’ve committed a crime by bringing your little ones along. While you enjoy award-winning wines with a view, the kids can hang out, play on the lawn, and just be kids—because yes, a peaceful wine tasting and happy children can exist in the same sentence. Located at 10401 Cook Underwood Rd Underwood, WA 98651.

8 Kid Friendly Wineries in Hood River, Oregon

As I find more family-friendly wineries in Hood River I will update this list. For now, this is all I’ve got. Hopefully, it’s enough to ensure you have a great day wine tasting in Hood River!

Where to Stay in Hood River

Wondering where to stay in Hood River? I have two recommendations.

Hood River Hotel
Hood River Hotel

If you want to stay right in the heart of Hood River stay downtown at the historic Hotel River Hotel. They have a family suite that can sleep a large family. You can walk anywhere in Hood River if you stay here.

The Society Hotel Bingen
The Society Hotel Bingen

If you want something a little more secluded stay across the river near White Salmon, Washington at The Society Hotel Bingen. They’ve got two-bedroom cabins that are also good for families and a gymnasium with cornhole, shuffleboard, and more.

Where to Eat in Hood River

In between wineries you may want to pop back into Hood River for lunch or dinner. Here are a few places we recommend.

Wicked Sushi, Burgers, Bowls
Wicked Sushi, Burgers, Bowls

This is the best place to eat in Hood River. All their food is so good. They’ve got gourmet burgers, poke bowls and a wide variety of sushi options including deep fried sushi.

Double Mountain Brewery and Taproom

A favorite at Hood River, the debutant taproom at Double Mountain, this brewery has a menu for kids comprising of pizzas and sandwiches. Also, they have booster seats and high chairs for the kids. There is a restriction of time, all minors are permitted till 9 pm.

14. Visit the Sixth Floor Museum

The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza

The Sixth Floor Museum is located in the former Texas School Book Depository, where Lee Harvey Oswald shot and killed President John F. Kennedy. The museum chronicles the life, death, and legacy of JFK, as well as the history of the building itself.

15. Dallas Zoo

The Dallas Zoo is home to over 2,000 animals from all over the world, making it one of the largest zoos in the United States. 16. Tour of the Dallas Cowboys Stadium
Kicking off the Dallas Rise and Rally with the Arlington Police

If your teen is a football fan, they’ll love taking a tour of the Dallas Cowboys Stadium. The stadium tour includes a visit to the locker room, press box, and field, where you can see first-hand how America’s Team prepares for game day. Better yet, attend a game!

17. Go Shopping at NorthPark Center

NorthPark Center is one of the largest malls in the country, and it’s a great place to spend a day shopping with your teen. In addition to over 200 stores, NorthPark Center also features an outdoor sculpture garden and two art museums. Plus, there are some good coffee shops here.

18. Puttshack
Puttshack Addison

Puttshack is an indoor mini-golf place in Addison with 2 courses, a restaurant and bar, and electronic putting games. I suggest making a reservation in advance and if you are doing the electric challenge game do not book the last one of the day. If you run late at all it won’t load and you will have to do regular mini-golf instead. We learned this the hard way.

19. Urban Air Adventure Park
Urban Air Lewisville

Teens always seem to have a good time at a trampoline park. This one has a lot of trampolines, a tumble track, a ropes course, a climbing wall, a playground, a warrior course, dodgeball, and more. There are several locations. Get a 30% off coupon for the McKinny location or a 42% off coupon for the Lewisville location.

20. Dallas Aquarium

Take teens boutique-ing and out for some excellent food down at the funky Bishop Arts district. There is a lot of street art too. I recommend eating at Paradiso.

23. Meow Wolf

This psychedelic artist explosion is interesting for teens to wander around in. That piano Jonah is playing does play and as he played the walls lighted up different colors. This is in Grapevine inside the Grapevine Mills Mall.

24. See a Show at the AT&T Performing Arts Center

The AT&T Performing Arts Center is one of the premier performing arts venues in Dallas. The center features several performance spaces, including the Winspear Opera House and Meyerson Symphony Center. Teens will enjoy seeing a show at one of these world-class venues.

25. Fritz’s Adventure

Teens will love scaling the walls and ziplining at Fritz’s Adventure. I took my son with one of his friends and they had a blast. They did two of the more challenging courses both of which take you outside the building. One had them going down a bunch of ziplines and the other had them literally climbing the wall! There’s a small snack bar here with drinks and food. Located at Grandscape.

26. World Springs

World Springs The Colony

Take your teens to spend a day hot tubbing! I’ve taken two of my kids and they both loved it. It’s super relaxing and good for you. For the parent its’a great way to spend time with them just chilling out and talking. They have waiters that will bring you drinks and if you get hungry they do have a small selection of food items. This is located at Grandscape.

27. Ax Throwing

Corky's Gaming Bistro

Ax throwing is a lot more fun than you would think. Some places are certainly much better than others. My current favorite in the DFW area is in Grapevine at Corky’s Gaming Bistro. Plus, they’ve got a super fun darts game. I’ve been twice, and both times it was a total blast. My teens loved it. I noticed a lot of ax-throwing deals on Groupon.

28. Sky Zone Frisco

I just recently found out that the Puttery at Grandscape is family-friendly. When it first opened, it was for adults only, but not anymore. They’ve got 4 mini-golf courses you can play, a fantastic restaurant, and for the parents, there’s a bar. For one price, you can play all day.

Conclusion

In short, Dallas is a fantastic place to visit with teenagers. There are plenty of fun and engaging activities for teens of all interests, from amusement parks to museums to outdoor adventures. The city keeps on evolving, and there is always something new and interesting to experience. Pigeon Forge is one of those places that draws people in for all the right reasons — mountain views, family attractions, and a friendly small-town vibe that never gets old. But for many travelers, planning a trip here can quickly start to feel expensive. Between tickets to popular shows, meals out, and lodging near the Parkway, the costs can add up faster than expected. It’s easy to assume that enjoying this Smoky Mountain town means stretching your budget or cutting corners elsewhere.

The good news is that you don’t have to spend a lot to have a great time in Pigeon Forge. With a little planning, you can enjoy almost everything the area offers — from scenic drives to local food — without watching your wallet too closely. This guide breaks down practical tips that repeat visitors actually use to make the most of every dollar while visiting Pigeon Forge.

1. Plan Ahead but Leave Room for Flexibility

Pigeon Forge

Create a simple itinerary before you go, listing what you want to see and how much each activity costs. This helps you avoid unplanned spending once you’re there. Booking tickets online ahead of time can also lock in lower prices, especially for popular attractions or shows.

Still, leave a little room for last-minute changes. Weather or local events might shift your plans, and being flexible can help you find unexpected savings. Checking official websites or social pages during your trip helps you catch these deals while staying spontaneous.

2. Save More with Cabin Rentals

Cabins aren’t just for luxury vacations — they can actually save money for families or groups. Many cabins include full kitchens and entertainment areas like pool tables or game consoles.

If you’re searching for an affordable place to stay in Pigeon Forge, check out the wide range of cabin rentals available across town. Many cozy options cost less than you’d expect, especially those priced under $150 a night. They’re ideal for couples or small families who want the full Smoky Mountain cabin experience without paying excessive rates. For more local insight and current cabin deals, Pigeon Forge TN Guide is a trusted resource that shares helpful lodging tips, local updates, and area information to make trip planning easier.

3. Enjoy Free and Low-Cost Attractions

Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Some of the best parts of Pigeon Forge don’t cost anything at all. Spend time exploring the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, where you can hike, picnic, or just enjoy the mountain air. The scenic Cades Cove drive is a favorite for spotting wildlife and old cabins. If you like photography, early mornings and late afternoons offer the best light and peaceful views.

The town also has free community events throughout the year, including car shows, outdoor concerts, and festivals. Strolling through The Island or the Old Mill area is enjoyable even if you don’t spend a dime. Small attractions like mini-golf, go-kart tracks, and local museums are also affordable if you plan ahead and choose one or two that interest you most.

4. Use Deals, Coupons, and Combo Passes

Before you buy attraction tickets, check for deals online or at local visitor centers. Pigeon Forge has many websites that post current discounts and printable coupons. Most cabin rental companies also hand out coupon books when you check in. It’s an easy way to save on shows, dining, and activities.

Another good tip is to look for combo passes. They bundle several attractions into one ticket for less than you’d pay separately. Pick packages that match what you actually want to do instead of trying to fit too much into one day. These small savings quickly add up, especially for families visiting multiple attractions.

5. Eat Smart and Skip the Tourist Traps

Dining in Pigeon Forge can get expensive fast, especially if you stick to large themed restaurants near the Parkway. While those spots are fun once in a while, you can enjoy just as much flavor at half the price by eating where locals eat. Look for small diners, BBQ joints, and food trucks that serve hearty portions without inflated prices. Places like The Old Mill Pottery House Café & Grille and Lil Black Bear Café are known for good food at fair prices.

Many restaurants also offer lunch specials that cost less than dinner plates, so plan your bigger meals earlier in the day. If you’re staying in a cabin with a kitchen, cook some of your own meals. Even making your own snacks saves a lot over a weeklong stay. Buying groceries from local markets or larger stores like Publix or Kroger is much cheaper than eating out three times a day. Small changes like these make a big difference over the course of your trip.

6. Add Your Own Entertainment to the Trip

Not every evening needs to involve paid activities. Bringing your own entertainment keeps things relaxed and affordable. Board games, card decks, or streaming a movie together at the cabin are easy, fun ways to spend time after a long day out. If you enjoy the outdoors, take a short evening drive to catch the sunset or walk along the Little Pigeon River.

Many visitors also enjoy exploring nearby towns like Sevierville or Gatlinburg for free sightseeing. Stopping by local craft shops or scenic overlooks gives you a feel for the area without extra cost. Keeping a balance between paid attractions and free downtime makes your trip feel fuller and more personal.

7. Avoid Tourist Traps That Drain Your Budget

Every busy travel spot has places that look exciting but cost more than they’re worth. In Pigeon Forge, it’s easy to get drawn into souvenir shops or themed attractions that charge high entry fees for short experiences. Before you buy tickets or gifts, take a moment to read recent reviews online. Locals often leave honest feedback that can save you from overspending.

If you want souvenirs, skip the overpriced shops near major attractions and look for small craft stores or local markets. Handmade items usually cost less and have more meaning. Asking locals where they go for shopping or family fun often leads you to better-value spots that don’t rely on heavy advertising.

Enjoying Pigeon Forge on a budget isn’t about missing out — it’s about being thoughtful with how you spend. This mountain town has plenty to offer without a luxury price tag. Choosing the right time to visit, eating smart, and making the most of free attractions can cut your costs without cutting your fun. Staying close to the action, using local transport, and bringing your own entertainment make your trip easier and more affordable.

When you plan ahead, keep an open mind, and skip the overpriced extras, you’ll see that the best moments in Pigeon Forge don’t depend on how much you spend. They come from simple experiences — mountain air, friendly people, and time well spent. With a few smart choices, you can enjoy everything that makes Pigeon Forge special while keeping your budget on track.

If you’re planning a wine-tasting weekend in Fredericksburg, you’ll quickly realize two things: there are a lot of wineries, and no one in your group wants to be the designated driver. That’s where 830 Elevated Wine Tours comes in. My group of 15 decided to book their three-stop wine tasting tour, and it turned out to be a fun, easy, and (mostly) seamless way to experience Texas wine country without worrying about logistics.

I chose the wineries myself from their list of included partners. They had quite a few options to pick from, and—being the visual person I am—I narrowed it down based on photos. (Let’s be honest, if it doesn’t look cute on Instagram, did it even happen?) They also had a few “premium” wineries available for an additional fee, but I decided to stick with the ones included in the base price. Our stops ended up being Barons Creek, Meierstone Vineyards, and Texas Wine Collective.

The Setup

830 Elevated Wine Tours Van

Our group was split between two sprinter vans, which worked out perfectly. Both vans were clean, comfortable, and equipped with air conditioning—a necessity in Texas. Each van also had a small cooler stocked with bottled water, which was a thoughtful touch and something we actually needed between stops. Our drivers were two college students who were, quite honestly, fantastic. They were friendly, professional, and rolled with our group’s chatty energy all day. They kept everything on time, handled all the winery coordination, and even tolerated our off-key van sing-alongs (sorry about that, guys).

We were picked up at 10:30 AM right from our rental house, which made things super convenient. The plan was to visit three wineries over the course of the day, then get dropped back off mid-afternoon. We actually finished around 2 PM, a bit earlier than scheduled, but that worked out fine since most of us were happily wined-out by then.

Stop 1: Barons Creek

Our first stop was Barons Creek, a large and polished winery that feels a bit like a European estate plopped into the Texas Hill Country. The courtyard is lovely, with beautiful architecture and plenty of photo ops. The tasting room is spacious, and the wines were solid—nothing mind-blowing, but a nice way to start the day. Service was friendly but a little rushed, which is understandable considering how busy this place gets on weekends. It’s one of the more popular wineries in the area, so don’t expect an intimate tasting, but it does set the stage for the rest of the day nicely.

Stop 2: Meierstone Vineyards

Meierstone Vineyards

The highlight of our tour, hands down, was Meierstone Vineyards. If you only take one thing away from this review, let it be this: make sure Meierstone is one of your stops. It’s smaller and more personal than some of the big-name wineries, and that’s exactly what makes it special. We got to meet the actual winemaker, who shared their story, explained their process, and guided us through the tasting. You could really feel their passion for what they do, and it gave the whole experience a much more authentic and educational feel.

The wines themselves were good—complex, well-balanced, and clearly crafted with care. Even members of our group who weren’t big wine drinkers were happy because they have cocktails. Beyond the wine, the property is gorgeous. It’s the kind of place that feels effortlessly cool without trying too hard—modern, rustic, and full of charm. Between the old barns, scenic views, and tasting patio, it’s a total photo op goldmine. Everyone in our group ended up snapping pictures for at least 15 minutes before we even started tasting.

If you’re looking for a winery that’s equal parts educational and Instagram-worthy, Meierstone checks both boxes. We could’ve easily stayed longer, and it was the one stop that everyone agreed was worth a return visit.

Stop 3: Texas Wine Collective

Texas Wine Collective

Our final stop was Texas Wine Collective, and while it wasn’t bad by any means, it was our group’s least favorite. It’s a larger, more commercial winery with multiple tasting areas and a steady flow of big tour groups coming and going. After the intimate vibe at Meierstone, this one felt a little impersonal. The wines were decent, but the experience lacked the warmth and connection we’d enjoyed earlier in the day. If you’re new to wine tasting, you’ll probably enjoy the variety here, but for our group, it just didn’t have the same charm.

Lunch (Sort Of)

I had planned ahead and brought a charcuterie board and sandwiches for everyone, thinking we could enjoy them at one of the wineries between tastings. Unfortunately, that plan didn’t work out quite as expected. Our drivers let us know that outside food isn’t allowed at the wineries, which makes sense from their perspective but wasn’t exactly what I’d envisioned. So, we improvised and had a little rolling picnic in the vans between stops. It wasn’t glamorous, but it got the job done. If you’re planning a tour like this, just know you’ll need to eat before or after—or check if your chosen wineries offer food options.

Also, a quick note for planners: the coolers in the vans are fairly small, so if you’re bringing your own snacks, don’t expect to fit a big spread. Our charcuterie board definitely didn’t fit, though we made it work.

Timing and Pacing

Each stop lasted atleast an hour and a half, which felt a little long for our group. After two wineries, most of us were ready to move on sooner, especially since the tastings themselves don’t take that long. Still, I can see how others might appreciate the leisurely pace—if you’re the type who likes to sit, sip, and soak in the atmosphere, you’ll love the slower rhythm.

Since we wrapped up earlier than expected (around 2 PM), we had plenty of time afterward to relax by the pool at our rental house, which honestly felt like the perfect way to end the day.

Overall Impressions

All in all, 830 Elevated Wine Tours did a fantastic job. Coordinating a group of 15 isn’t easy, but they made it look effortless. The vans were comfortable, the drivers were friendly and professional, and the whole day ran smoothly from start to finish. It’s one of those experiences where you truly get to just sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride—literally.

Would I book with them again? Absolutely. But next time, I’d make a few small tweaks:

 • I’d double-check which wineries allow food ahead of time or plan a lunch stop between tastings.
 • I’d shorten the time at each stop just a bit or choose wineries with additional activities or shaded seating to fill the downtime.
 • And I’d definitely make sure Meierstone Vineyards is on the list again.

Tips for Planning Your 830 Elevated Wine Tour

If you’re considering booking a tour with 830 Elevated, here are a few quick tips based on our experience:

 1. Pick your wineries carefully. You can choose from their included list or upgrade to premium options for a fee. Do a little research—each winery has a different vibe, and the mix can really shape your day.
 2. Ask about food policies. Most wineries don’t allow outside food, so plan to eat before or after your tour, or check if your chosen stops have on-site restaurants or food trucks.
 3. Bring snacks that don’t need refrigeration. The van coolers are small, and it’s best to stick to things like crackers, nuts, or prepackaged snacks.
 4. Dress comfortably but cute. You’ll be getting in and out of vans and walking on gravel or grass, so comfy shoes are key—but remember, these are some seriously photo-worthy spots.
 5. Stay hydrated. Between the tastings and Texas heat, you’ll be thankful for those bottles of water they provide.
 6. Tip your driver. They handle all the scheduling, driving, and logistics—and they deserve it! But before you do make sure it wasn’t already included. In our case tip was added in advance so no one needed to tip at the end.

Final Thoughts

830 Elevated Wine Tours is a great option for groups who want a relaxed, turn-key way to experience Fredericksburg’s wineries. You don’t have to worry about driving, coordinating schedules, or figuring out where to go next—they handle it all. Just be prepared for a slower pace and make sure to plan your lunch strategy ahead of time.

Our group had a blast, learned a ton, took way too many photos at Meierstone, and came home with a few bottles of wine (and a solid afternoon buzz). If you’re visiting Fredericksburg with friends and want to experience Texas wine country in comfort and style, 830 Elevated Wine Tours is definitely worth booking.
