Moms. We do it all, don’t we? And let’s be real, we rarely treat ourselves. That’s where a perfectly curated stocking comes in handy. Stuff it with things that bring a smile, help us feel fabulous, or let us sneak in a moment of self-care. (And yes, Santa, this is for you too. Take notes.) Here are the best stocking stuffers for moms that are guaranteed to impress this holiday season. If you are looking for bigger gifts check out our 32 Christmas Gifts for Mom.

1. Makeup Wipes

Because at the end of the day, whether we’ve been conquering the corporate world, wrangling toddlers, or pretending not to notice our teenagers ignoring us, no one has the energy for a 10-step skincare routine. Toss in a pack of good makeup wipes, and you’ll have a grateful mom who can clean up fast and hit the pillow even faster.

2. Stylish Belt

Dress with belt

A belt might not scream “fun,” but hear me out: it’s practical, stylish, and makes us feel put-together—even if the rest of our day is falling apart. Go for a chic neutral or something bold to add a pop of personality.

3. Hair Scrunchies

Scrunchies

Best Places to Eat in Grapevine, Texas https://www.mommytravels.net/best-places-to-eat-in-grapevine-texas/ https://www.mommytravels.net/best-places-to-eat-in-grapevine-texas/#respond Sat, 06 Dec 2025 15:42:20 +0000 https://www.mommytravels.net/?p=50775 Discover the best places to eat in Grapevine, Texas with this curated list of top restaurants, from cozy cafes and Italian favorites to wine bars, steakhouses, Mediterranean eats, and local Texan classics—all perfect for your next trip to Historic Main Street.

The post Best Places to Eat in Grapevine, Texas appeared first on Mommy Travels.

]]>
Grapevine may be famous for wineries, twinkle lights, and being the Christmas Capital of Texas, but let’s be honest: the food scene is what will have you planning your next trip before you’ve even finished your first meal. This town is packed with everything from indulgent breakfasts to upscale dinners, casual bites, and comfort food so good you’ll momentarily forget you’re supposed to be “eating light” on vacation. Whether you’re here for a girls’ getaway, a family trip, or a quick weekend escape, these are the best places to eat in Grapevine, carefully picked after spending more time than I’d like to admit thinking about where to eat next.

OldWest Café

Old West Café
OldWest Café | Photos by Meagan Wristen

If your ideal breakfast involves plates so big they barely fit on the table, OldWest Café will feel like home. This is the kind of place where the waitress calls you “hon,” the coffee flows without asking, and the pancakes are the size of steering wheels. Their menu reads like a love letter to breakfast lovers, with every combination of eggs, bacon, sausage, French toast, and biscuits you could dream of. The cinnamon roll French toast is the move if you’re ready to go all in, but the hearty skillets and omelets are just as satisfying.

Don’t be alarmed if there’s a wait; this place is wildly popular with locals and visitors. The good news is that the food comes out quickly, the portions are huge, and you’ll roll out full and extremely content. I had the huevos rancheros with a side of tomatoes, and they were fantastic.

Sauce’d Pizza & Smashburgers

Sauce’d Pizza & Smashburgers
Sauce’d Pizza & Smashburgers | Photos by Meagan Wristen

A trip to Grapevine isn’t complete without a stop at Sauce’d, according to my kids, who love it because sometimes you just need carbs and the comfort of a perfectly blistered, wood-fired pizza. Their pies strike that sweet spot between traditional and creative, with great crust, quality toppings, and zero fuss.

If you’re more in a burger mood, the smashburgers deliver crispy edges, juicy centers, and that nostalgic diner flavor that reminds you why smashburgers are superior to every other burger style. The vibe is casual, family-friendly, and easy, making it a great choice after exploring Main Street, hitting the wineries, or when you just want something reliably good without making a reservation.

Napoli’s Italian Kitchen & Market

Napoli’s Italian Kitchen & Market

Napoli’s feels like walking into a cozy neighborhood Italian restaurant you wish you lived closer to. It’s warm, welcoming, and full of exactly the kind of food you crave after a busy day of shopping, wine tasting, or wrangling children through Christmas festivities.

The pasta dishes are hearty, saucy, and comforting, with favorites like chicken parm, lasagna, and fettuccine Alfredo. They also have a market with Italian staples and freshly-made goodies you’ll convince yourself you need to bring home, even though we all know it’ll never make it on the plane. Napoli’s is perfect for a relaxed lunch or dinner when you want something satisfying and familiar.

Tolbert’s Restaurant & Chili Parlor

Tolbert’s Restaurant & Chili Parlor

Tolbert’s is a Grapevine institution, and if you haven’t tried their famous Bowl of Red, you haven’t fully experienced Texas. This is no-nonsense comfort food: hearty chili, chili burgers, frito pie, and everything else you’re absolutely not supposed to eat before putting on skinny jeans.

Located right on Main Street, Tolbert’s also offers live music 7 nights a week, giving it a lively, laid-back atmosphere. If you want a casual spot that feels like classic Texas, Tolbert’s delivers every time. It’s the perfect stop when you want something filling and flavorful without breaking the bank or putting on anything fancier than jeans.

Wine Fusion Winery

Wine Fusion Winery

Wine Fusion is more of a small-plates-and-wine-flights situation, which is ideal if you’re out for a girls’ weekend, date night, or just pretending you’re the kind of person who pairs wine with food on purpose. They offer flatbreads, dips, charcuterie, and light bites that are great for sharing. The bacon, jalapeno stuffed tater kegs are a must-eat.

Esparza’s Restaurante Mexicano

Esparza’s Restaurante Mexicano

Esparza’s is the unofficial headquarters of Tex-Mex cravings in Grapevine. It has a cheery, bustling vibe, huge margaritas, and all the classics: fajitas, enchiladas, queso, tamales, and everything that pairs beautifully with chips and a patio. Known for their massive portions and lively dining room, Esparza’s is especially fun during the holidays or on weekend evenings when the atmosphere feels festive without being chaotic. It’s also walkable from Main Street, making it an easy choice if you’re already out exploring. If you want a guaranteed crowd-pleaser for families or groups, this is it.

Bonnie & Clyde’s Hideout

Bonnie & Clyde’s Hideout

For something with a bit more personality and storytelling, head to Bonnie & Clyde’s Hideout. The vibe is speakeasy-meets-cocktail-lounge, inspired by the infamous outlaw duo. Expect craft cocktails, elevated bar bites, moody lighting, and a setting that feels built for swapping stories. It’s the perfect pre-dinner or post-dinner spot, but also works as a light-meal option if you just want appetizers and drinks. Fyi: that baby wedge is massive!

Cafe Italia

Cafe Italia
Cafe Italia | Photos by Meagan Wristen

Cafe Italia is one of those hidden-gem Italian restaurants that locals love and visitors instantly add to their list of repeat spots. It’s intimate, the service is friendly, and the dishes taste like they were made by someone’s Italian uncle who has very strong opinions about garlic. You’ll find classics like veal Marsala, shrimp scampi, ravioli, and one of the better tiramisus in the area, so save room for dessert!

Chez Fabien

Chez Fabien
Chez Fabien | Photos by Meagan Wristen

Chez Fabien is a French-inspired bistro on Main Street with a cozy interior and one of the most versatile menus in town. You can come for brunch and enjoy crepes, croissants, and quiches. You can come for lunch and get salads, sandwiches, burgers, or steak frites. And you can come for dinner and enjoy well-executed bistro dishes like salmon, pasta, or tenderloin. It’s consistent, delicious, and works for every type of traveler—families, couples, friend groups, picky eaters, and adventurous eaters alike.

Zeppole Coastal Italian

Zeppole Gaylord Texan

Located inside the Gaylord Texan, Zeppole is elevated, pretty, and ideal for travelers who want a nicer dining experience without leaving the property. Even if you’re not staying at the Gaylord, dining at Zeppole is a fun way to soak in the hotel’s over-the-top décor and resort atmosphere. The menu includes coastal-inspired Italian dishes like seafood pastas, steaks, salads, and fresh bread served warm enough to burn your fingers. It’s a polished, special-occasion option perfect for travelers looking for an upscale evening.

Son of a Butcher

If you love sliders, Son of a Butcher is your new happy place. This restaurant specializes in gourmet mini-burgers with inventive flavor combinations, making it easy to try three or four without committing to one big burger. They also serve delicious fries, tots, shakes, and boozy milkshakes. Teens love it, adults love it, and it’s a great casual option that feels fun while still offering great quality. It’s perfect for a quick lunch or a low-key dinner before wandering around Grapevine Mills or Main Street.

Rock & Brews

Rock and Brews
Rock & Brews | Photo by Meagan Wristen

Rock & Brews is a lively, rock-themed restaurant that works well for families, groups, or anyone who wants a low-stress dining environment with a huge menu. Think burgers, wings, pizzas, sandwiches, salads, and an extensive beer selection. The rock-and-roll décor makes it fun, and the food is reliably solid. It’s the kind of place where you can sit back, relax, and know everyone in your group will find something they want, including your pickiest eater. (If you were super bummed they closed their Grandscape location, you’ll be happy to know that yes, this is the same place!)

ZaTaR Mediterranean at Harvest Hall

ZaTaR Mediterranean at Harvest Hall
ZaTaR Mediterranean at Harvest Hall | Photo by Meagan Wristen

Harvest Hall is Grapevine’s stylish food hall, and ZaTaR is one of the best stops within it in my opinion. ZaTaR specializes in Mediterranean dishes like shawarma, kebabs, hummus, falafel, and salads. Everything tastes fresh and flavorful, and it’s a nice change of pace if you’ve been eating your way through Tex-Mex and Italian all weekend. The food is quick, affordable, and perfect for travelers who want something flavorful. You can order from a qr code and they will bring it into the bar to your table.

From breakfast feasts to Italian comfort food, craft cocktails, and absolutely unnecessary amounts of carbs, Grapevine delivers on every craving. Whether you’re here for a wine weekend, a girls’ getaway, or your annual Christmas pilgrimage, these restaurants are the ones worth putting on your must-eat list.

If you are debating on visiting Riviera Maya but do not want to stay at an all-inclusive resort, I highly recommend Vidanta Riviera Maya just 25-minutes south of the Cancun airport. They offer a variety of room types to accommodate a wide range of budgets. Plus, with a 1000-acre property, they’ve got tons to do right on-site. From the beautiful stretch of beach to unique dining experiences to impressive shows like Joya by Cirque du Soleil your family will stay entertained for days. I recommend spending at least 4 days here.

Grand Luxxe

Grand Luxxe Room at Vidanta Riviera Maya
Photos by Meagan Wristen

If you can afford it, stay in the Grand Luxxe section of the resort. (There are 6 hotels here to choose from.) Here everything is slightly elevated including a private pool area with a hot tub, a well-equipped fitness center, a decadent spa, and access to the exclusive Beach Club. We loved our room. We had access to the connecting lock-out room as well giving us two master bedrooms both had large walk-in showers and huge jacuzzi tubs. The patio was huge with a dining table, lounge chairs, and a shallow pool.

Beach Club

Vidanta Riviera Maya Beach Club
Photos by Meagan Wristen

Our favorite place to spend our time was the Beach Club. This high-end pool has room for everyone to feel exclusive. We went here everyday and each time we got our own cabana with lounge chairs and outlets so I could charge my phone. It felt very private, was never crowded, and had a super chill vibe. There’s even a bar cart roaming around ready to make you an Aperol spritz! My only regret is not spending more time here.

Jungala Water Park

Vidanta Riviera Maya Jungala Water Park
Photos by Meagan Wristen

There’s a fairly new waterpark located on property called Jungala. It has large body slides and tube rides. There is a large lazy river with a bar halfway through it so clever. Drinks are an additional cost. There is also a large kid’s area. Our favorite part was the hot tub and our private cabana. The cabana had waitstaff so we could order lunch. Plus, the cabana area also had it’s own private bathrooms which was much appreciated. How often do you see a nice clean bathroom at a waterpark! The waterpark is an additional cost but the hotels golf carts will take you over to the entrace. Buy tickets in advance.

Joya Cirque du Soleil

Vidanta Riviera Maya Joya cirque du Soleil
Photos by Meagan Wristen

I had heard there was a Cirque du Soleil show in the area but I was surprised to find out it was part of Vidanta. The show is incredible. I don’t want to give it away but if you’ve seen any of their other shows know this one is just as good. We arrived early to enjoy the 3-course menu for dinner. There’s also an option for dessert and drinks to be added to your tickets. When you do the dinner you are right up close which we liked. Although, I recommend not sitting in the front row unless you want to end up on stage. Purchase tickets in advance.

Wellness Refuge Spa

Vidanta Riviera Maya Spa
Photos by Meagan Wristen

Eden and I LOVED the spa so much we spend over 3 hours there. It started with hydrotherapy where we enjoyed a steam room, sauna, hot tubs, foot shower while walking on rocks, heated lounge chairs, and more. After a busy few days, it was a dream for us to be able to slow down. After hydrotherapy, we were taken to our room. We shared a treatment room that kicked off with some sort of interesting Mayan spa welcome. Then we had an 80-minute full body massage that was divine. Adding the spa to your visit is a must. We visited the newer spa in the Grand Luxxe area. I believe there is another spa on the property but did not have the chance to see it. We also didn’t see any monkeys which was a bummer.

Le Petit Chef

Vidanta Riviera Maya Le Petit Chef
Photos by Meagan Wristen

Le Petit Chef is an extremely unique dinner show that exceeded all my expectations. There’s a projector that projects the chef onto the table, and he walks you all through your dinner. It’s colorful, entertaining, and educational. Plus, the food was good. I did the pairing, which included one beer, tequila, a cocktail, and some wine. I thought the pairing was just okay, so if you are on a budget, do the dinner only. If you are traveling with kids, this will be one of the highlights of your trip.

Waves n’ Tacos Auténtica Taquería

Vidanta Riviera Maya Antojitos
Photos by Meagan Wristen

One of our favorite eateries in the Salum area of the resort is Waves n’ Tacos Auténtica Taquería. Their tacos al pastor are delicious. Plus, they’ve got 4 or 5 salsas to choose from on every table. Their guacamole is excellent too. The other places to eat were good too, but this just happened to be our favorite. I go to Mexico to eat Mexican food, not hamburgers.

Personal Chef

Private chef experience at Vidanta
Photos by MommyTravels.net

One of the coolest options you have when you stay in a room with a full kitchen is to have a private chef. The chef will come to your room and make breakfast or dinner. We had a chef whip up our breakfast one morning and it was incredible. It was a ton of food and a lovely setup. For breakfast, each person gets to pick a main dish. Everything else you see in the photo comes with the experience too. They will wrap up the leftovers and your fridge will be full.

Salum

The Salum area is a bohemian area mixed with shopping, restaurants, cafes, and sometimes entertainment. We only managed to catch the shops open once since we spent most of our time at the pool or doing other things in the evening. At night, the steps light up in a bunch of different colors and is neat to see.

Due to the massive size of the resort, the stretch of beach is massive too. I never had to wait for a seat because there are just so many places to hang out and sit. The beach in front of the main pool area has swings, cornhole, and other games. The beach near the Grand Luxxe has tons of chairs and tucked away between the beach and the pool are hammocks and other cozy spots to sit.

All in all, our experience at Vidanta Riviera Maya was wonderful. And I am sure you can see why I chose Riviera Maya as one of my 2025 Best Family Vacation Destinations.

Check current rates for the Grand Mayan portion of the property here. To stay in the same section we did, the Grand Luxxe area, you can check the rates here.

Mazatlán may be known as the “Pearl of the Pacific,” but let’s be honest—it could just as easily be called the Land of Really Good Food and Ocean Views That Make You Forget About Your Diet. From beach clubs with cocktails at sunset to centuries-old haciendas serving Sinaloan comfort food, Mazatlán’s food scene is a delicious adventure waiting to happen.

Here’s a roundup of the best places to eat (and drink) in Mazatlán based on my latest trip—bring your appetite and stretchy pants.

1. Shekinah Beach Club

Shekinah Beach Club

If you’re looking for the ultimate “I’m living my best beach life” vibe, Shekinah Beach Club delivers. It’s the kind of spot where you sip a margarita while on a swing in the pool and wonder if you could just… never leave. Their seafood is ultra-fresh (think ceviche and grilled fish), and the views of the Pacific at sunset are unbeatable. I highly recommend the ribeye tacos and guacamole.

2. Restaurante Panamá

Restaurante Panamá | Photos by Meagan Wristen
Restaurante Panamá | Photos by Meagan Wristen

Let’s call this one the breakfast MVP. Restaurante Panamá is practically a Mazatlán institution, serving up hearty plates that could power you through a full day of sightseeing (or at least until your next snack). Order the chilaquiles or machaca—they’re both delicious and slightly addictive.

Local tip: Save room for dessert. Their bakery section is no joke. And, if you have kids with you before to ask to sit near the kid section so they can play.

3. Mariscos Beto

Mariscos Beto

If you want to eat where the locals actually eat, head to Mariscos Beto. It’s not fancy—just wildly good. This is where you’ll find Mazatlán’s most authentic seafood dishes served fresh, fast, and full of flavor. The shrimp tacos and ceviche tostadas are legendary, and the portions are generous enough to share (but you won’t want to).

Insider tip: Go early for lunch—it gets packed fast. And don’t skip the house salsa; it’s got just the right kick.

4. El Embarcadero

El Embarcadero in Mazatlan

Lunch with a pool view? Yes, please. Restaurante El Embarcadero is all about seafood, sunshine, and seaside serenity. It’s the kind of spot where shrimp are cooked to perfection, and every bite comes with a sea breeze. Plus, they have a spectacular bar with some seriously awesome cocktails.

5. Amelia Restaurant

Amelia Restaurant in Mazatlan

Breakfast at Restaurante Amelia feels like you’re dining in a chic, coastal hideaway that somehow still feels totally local. The food is light, fresh, and beautifully presented—think fruit platters, eggs cooked just right, and fresh coffee strong enough to wake a jet-lagged traveler. The birria chiliquiles and the chicharrón enchiladas are both phenomenal.

6. Presidio

Presidio

Presidio is the culinary crown jewel of Mazatlán’s historic center—and the kind of place that makes you want to linger long after the plates are cleared. Housed in a gorgeous open-air courtyard with twinkling lights, this restaurant is effortlessly romantic and seriously delicious. The menu fuses Mexican and international flavors, and every dish is art on a plate.

Can’t-miss dish: The pork shank!

7. Muchacho Alegre

Muchacho Alegre

Dinner and a baseball game? Don’t mind if I do. Muchacho Alegre is where locals go to let loose—music, laughter, beer buckets, and plates of fresh seafood make it one of Mazatlán’s most fun dining experiences. It’s lively, loud, and perfectly Mazatlán. Obviously, this didn’t make this list because of the food, instead it was the overall experience. It was such a good time it had to make the list.

What to eat: The ceviche, obviously. And maybe a michelada or two.

8. Marina El Cid Restaurant

Marina El Cid Restaurant

Dinner at Marina El Cid is equal parts relaxing and refined. Expect ocean views, elegant plating, and a mix of local and international dishes that somehow all taste like vacation. It’s a great spot for a final dinner in Mazatlán—something about that marina view makes it feel like the perfect farewell meal.

Recommended dish: Fresh catch of the day or a juicy steak paired with a glass of wine.

9. Casa 46

Casas 46

If you’re looking for an elevated dining experience in Mazatlán’s historic district, Casa 46 is your spot. Set in a beautifully restored building overlooking Machado Square, it’s refined yet relaxed, with food that blends classic Mexican flavors with modern presentation. It’s the perfect way to end a day exploring the city—or to celebrate surviving the Day of the Dead parade with style.

Final Thoughts

Mazatlán’s food scene is the perfect blend of local tradition and coastal luxury. Whether you’re eating ceviche on the beach or dining under fairy lights in the historic center, every meal feels like a celebration.

So go ahead—book the trip, order the shrimp, and say yes to that second margarita. Mazatlán will be waiting with open arms (and a plate of tacos).

Buffalo, New York is known for its amazing food. But what else are Buffalonians supposed to do in the winter? Have cocktails, of course!

With all of the incredible restaurants in Buffalo, it should come as no surprise that most of them feature incredible drink menus.

What most people don’t realize is that Buffalo is on the up and up… meaning in the past few years, Buffalo restored much of its beloved downtown and did some major renovations on the waterfront. A lot of those major upgrades came in the form of some fantastic dining and drinking establishments!

You can find great food almost anywhere in Buffalo so in this post, I’m going to focus on the drinking! I’ve compiled a few of my favorite spots to grab a drink. There are many, maybe even too many! If you have a favorite cocktail place in Buffalo, feel free to leave a comment with any suggestions.

Cheers!

1. High Violet – 710 Elmwood Ave, Buffalo, NY 14222

High Violet
Photo from High Violet

High Violet is where the cocktails are as bold as the conversations. This bar doesn’t just serve drinks; it serves experiences in a glass. The atmosphere is as lively as it gets, with a vibe that encourages you to let loose and enjoy.

Drink Recommendation: Try the “Lavender Empress” – it’s a gin-based marvel with a hint of lavender that’s as regal as it sounds. It’s the perfect drink to toast to the good life, with a floral twist that’ll make you feel like spring, regardless of the Buffalo weather outside.

2. Britesmith Brewing – 5611 Main St, Williamsville, NY 14221

Britesmith Brewing

Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Brewery? I thought we were talking about cocktails!” But hear me out. Britesmith Brewery may be known for its craft beer, but its cocktail game is equally strong. Set in a converted blacksmith shop, this place combines industrial grit with artisanal finesse. They recently opened a second location at 1250 Niagara.

Drink Recommendation: Order the “Britesmith Old Fashioned.” It’s a testament to their ability to nail a classic, with a twist – using a house-made syrup that complements the bourbon like a dream. Perfect for those who appreciate craftsmanship in their cocktails.

3. Tappo – 338 Ellicott St

Tappo
Photo from Tappo

Tappo is a local favorite for good reason. Not only is the Italian food delicious, but this restaurant is known for its $16 bottles of wine and the great view from the rooftop patio. (Some locals consider this an even better view than the Curtiss Hotel.) One thing is for sure, you can’t beat this price, especially with 40 bottles to choose from.

4. Ballyhoo – 211 South Park Ave.

Ballyhoo
Photo from Ballyhoo

This place nails the balance between laid-back neighborhood bar and serious craft cocktail spot, where every drink feels like it was mixed by someone who actually cares (shocking, I know). The bartenders aren’t just slinging drinks; they’re creating little works of art that somehow taste even better than they look, and the vibe is effortlessly cool without trying too hard. It’s the kind of spot where you can settle in, sip something perfectly balanced, and immediately wonder why you don’t live closer.

5. Liberty Hound – 1 N Park Ave

Liberty Hound - 1 N Park Ave

Liberty Hound is located right on Buffalo’s beloved Canalside and is another local favorite. This casual dining spot features a large patio overlooking the water, microbrews, specialty cocktails, and a decent wine list. It’s the perfect spot to hang during a day at Canalside during the warmer weather months.

6. Patina 250 – 250 Delaware Ave

Patina 250 in Buffalo, NY
Photo from Patina 250

While Patina 250 happens to be another one of my favorite brunch spots, thanks to the bottomless Bellinis that come with the prix fixe, it is mostly known as being one of the hottest and newest upscale restaurants in town. They have an outdoor patio, but honestly, the environment inside is so lovely that I’d rather stay inside. The bar is gorgeous and I can never resist indulging in their Portobello fries and Margarita Reyes.

7. Duende – 85 Silo City Row

Duende - 85 Silo City Row
Photo from Duende

Tucked in the shadow of those massive industrial silos, the place leans into its history with reclaimed-wood accents, rugged steel, and a bar that looks handcrafted from the bones of the site itself. Their cocktail list is just as thoughtful — drinks like the Valerie White, Gandy Dancer, or a Pickle Brine Margarita show they aren’t afraid to play with flavors. Add in live music, the warehouse-meets-lounge atmosphere, and the feeling that you’re somewhere off the beaten path (because you kind of are), and it becomes one of those bars where time slows and every sip feels earned.

8. Remington Tavern – 184 Sweeney St.

Remington Tavern

Overlooking the scenic Erie Canal, Remington Tavern is the go-to spot for those who appreciate a side of history with their drinks. This place has mastered the art of combining a rustic, old-world charm with the sophistication of modern mixology. In addition to great cocktails they have the best oysters in town.

Drink Recommendation: Dive into the “Canal Side Mule” – a refreshing twist on the classic Moscow Mule, amped up with a splash of locally sourced apple cider. It’s as refreshing as a brisk walk along the canal itself, and twice as intoxicating.

9. VUE Rooftop Lounge at the Curtiss Hotel – 210 Franklin St

Mikka's wedding at the Vue

The views of Buffalo from this rooftop bar are incredible… hence the name VUE. You get a full panoramic view of Buffalo in this posh lounge while sipping cocktails. VUE is definitely the hot place to be right now. Fun fact: Mikka had her Covid wedding here!

10. Founding Fathers – 75 Edward St

Founding Fathers Pub

Founding Fathers isn’t just a bar; it’s a Buffalo institution. Famed for its patriotic decor and an encyclopedic knowledge of American history, this place offers an education with every sip. The ambiance is unapologetically Americana, and the drinks are as strong as the country’s forefathers intended.

Drink Recommendation: You can’t go wrong with the “Liberty Bell Ringer.” It’s a gin cocktail that’s as bold and revolutionary as it sounds, garnished with a slice of American history (and apple). It’s the kind of drink that makes you want to debate the finer points of the Constitution, or at least pretend to.

11. Lucky Day Whiskey Bar – 320 Pearl St, Buffalo

Lucky Day Whiskey Bar Buffalo
Photo from Lucky Day Whiskey Bar

If you want a cocktails-and-whiskey cocktail bar that feels like somewhere worth lingering, Lucky Day Whiskey Bar in Buffalo absolutely delivers. Housed in a dramatic, historic former Masonic lodge (built in 1904) in downtown, it’s got that dark-wood, moody vibe that whispers “stay awhile.” Their whiskey library is nothing to scoff at — over 650 bottles with rarities and crowd-pleasers alike — so whether you’re “just” here for a cocktail or deep diving into spirits, they’ve got you covered. And it’s not all serious: the bar leans into hospitality with a local, seasonal menu, mezzanine cocktail service in the late evening, and happy hour to get the night started right. It’s exactly the sort of place where your drink tastes better just because the room feels earned.

12. Graylynn – 537 Main St, Buffalo

Graylynn Buffalo
Photo from Graylynn

If you want a cocktail experience that feels a little elevated and a lot unique, Graylynn is the spot. Positioned right downtown, this gin-focused bar and European-style bistro takes its spirits seriously, with a lineup that spans the globe and introduces you to bottles you didn’t even know you needed in your life. The cocktails aren’t just drinks—they’re carefully crafted experiments that balance botanicals, smoke, and unexpected flavor twists in ways that keep you guessing (and sipping). Add in the warm, stylish atmosphere that manages to feel both modern and timeless, and you’ve got one of the best cocktail destinations in Buffalo.

So there you have it, the definitive guide to Buffalo’s cocktail bar scene from a woman who loves a good drink and a better story. Whether you’re in the mood for something floral, fruity, classic, or craft, Buffalo’s bars have got you covered. Just remember, the best stories never start with “that one time I ate a salad” – they start with cocktails. Cheers!

These resorts aren’t “everything included” in the broadest sense (meals + all drinks + all activities bundled permanently), but they deliver most of what families want: great beaches, water parks or water play, kids’ clubs, fun amenities, and lodging that doesn’t feel like a dollar-store motel.

 • Check what’s included in your room rate: meals, drinks, activities.
 • Kids’ club + daily activities = sanity for parents + fun for kids.
 • Pools, water slides, splash pads are non-negotiable for summer vibes.
 • Proximity to “stuff”: If something breaks or someone wants to grab dinner off-site, easy access is key.
 • Beach access: private or semi-private makes a big difference.
 • Room size & amenities: a spacious room or suite + kitchen or kitchenette helps avoid snack/meal chaos.

Austin has always been known for live music, breakfast tacos, and an alarming number of people on scooters. But if you ask me, the city’s real heartbeat is its specialty coffee scene. Whether you’re a fan of cold brew, an iced turbo, or just want a great cup of coffee before hitting the Town Lake Trail, the city delivers.

So, grab your reusable cup (or don’t, no judgment), and let’s talk about the best coffee shops in Austin—from South Congress icons to East Austin hidden gems.

Bennu Coffee

Bennu Coffee

Let’s kick things off with a true Austin classic. Bennu Coffee has been fueling the city since before “specialty coffee” was cool. It’s the kind of place where you can hunker down for a long work session, sip on something rich, and pretend you’re finally going to finish that screenplay.

 • Great Coffee: Known for their fan of their classic drip coffee crowd, but also a solid lineup of espresso drinks and house-made syrups.
 • Great Place: Open late, with street parking that doesn’t make you cry.
 • Food Menu: Pastries, breakfast bites, and enough snacks to keep your laptop session alive.

If you’re in East Austin or near S Lamar Blvd, you’ve probably already stumbled into one of their locations.

Jo’s Coffee

Jo's Coffee Austin
Jo’s Coffee Austin photos by Meagan Wristen

No list of good coffee shops in Austin would be complete without Jo’s Coffee. The famous Jo’s Coffee Austinites know and love is more than just coffee—it’s an experience.

 • Signature Drink: The Iced Turbo, a sweet, creamy caffeine fix that has basically become a local rite of passage.
 • Best Part: The wall outside with the “I love you so much” mural, perfect for your first time Instagram shot.
 • Locations: You’ve got Jo’s Coffee Downtown for convenience, plus the S Congress Ave location where all the action is.

If you like people-watching while sipping your Jo’s House Blend, this is your perfect place.

Medici Roasting

Medici Roasting Austin

Caffé Medici is one of those specialty coffee shops that makes you feel like you’ve graduated from coffee amateur to coffee connoisseur. With several downtown locations (including the Warehouse District and Seaholm District), it’s a great place to grab a full-bodied roast before heading to theater shows or live music.

 • Great Coffee: Their espresso drinks and own beans roasted with care are consistently excellent.
 • Expansive Patio: If it’s a nice day, their outdoor setups are a good place to linger.
 • Weekend Brunch: Pair your latte with pastries or head next door to one of their neighboring eateries for good food.

This is the best place if you want a cup of joe that’s smooth, bold, and roasted locally.

Houndstooth Coffee

Houndstooth Coffee North Lamar

Ask a barista where they’d grab a drink and many will say Houndstooth Coffee. This coffee house is sleek, minimal, and a playground for serious coffee purveyors.

 • Specialty Coffee Scene: Known for collaborations with local roasters, rotating beans, and flawless espresso drinks.
 • Best Things: Try their cold brew or just go classic—their fan of their classic drip coffee is justified.

 • Live Music: Because it’s Austin, of course there’s live music on the patio.

 • Good Coffee: Not fancy, just reliable and strong.
 • Good Place: Their San Marcos St location is a great place for studying, while the North Loop vibe is more eclectic.

I’ve spent a lot of time galavanting around the globe with my daughter Eden, testing the limits of her patience and mine. And you know what? Traveling with your daughter is a special kind of magic—a magical reminder that you’re not as cool as you thought, but also a chance to bond in ways you never imagined.

Here’s my guide to the 13 best mother-daughter trips around the world. These are the spots where you’ll either create unforgettable memories…or at least have a hilarious story to tell about that one time Mom “ruined everything.”

1. Panama City, Panama

Who knew Panama was more than a hat? It’s like the underrated kid at the travel playground who’s cooler than you thought. Panama City offers a mix of history, adventure, and shopping. The Casco Viejo district is beyond Instagram-worthy, and the Panama Canal is an engineering wonder you will find fascinating.

 • Stay: Bristol Panama
 • Eat: Fonda Lo Que Hay – Local street food in a laid-back spot, perfect for moms who want to pretend they’re still cool.
 • Do: Day trip to the San Blas Islands for swimming, and snorkeling.

Highlight: Head out to the San Blas Islands for pristine beaches and snorkeling. Don’t worry, it’s chill enough that even your moody teenager will approve. Better yet, plan to stay at the beach part of your time in the country. We loved Decameron Panama.

2. New York City, USA

Ah, NYC—the place where dreams come true, and so do overpriced food trucks. The beauty of a New York City mother-daughter trip is that there’s something for both of you, whether shopping in SoHo or you’re reliving your 90s obsession with “Friends” at the famous apartment building in Greenwich Village. Don’t forget Broadway, where you can attempt to pass off theater as culture…until she asks why Harry Styles isn’t starring in Wicked.

 • Stay: The Plaza Hotel – Classic, iconic, and expensive. But come on, it’s The Plaza!
 • Eat: Serendipity 3 – Famous for its frozen hot chocolate, which will definitely end up all over her Instagram.
 • Do: Go to Broadway. Whether it’s Wicked or Hamilton, there’s something to make both of you feel cultured.

Highlight: Afternoon tea at The Plaza Hotel.

3. Danube River Cruise, Europe

I mean, if you’re going to travel with your daughter, why not do it in style? Cruising down the Danube River will make you both feel fancy, like you’re in a Bond movie, but with more castles and fewer evil villains. The best part? No flights between countries—just leisurely floating through the heart of Europe, where each stop is its own fairytale town.

 • Stay: Onboard with AmaWaterways – Luxury cruising at its finest, with stops in cities like Budapest and Vienna.
 • Eat: Lunch on the ship is often local specialties, but in Vienna, try Figlmüller for some massive schnitzel.
 • Do: Explore Budapest’s Thermal Baths. Soak in the mineral-rich waters and pretend you’re healing from all the mom-stress.

Highlight: Exploring Budapest together and pretending you’re both royalty at the Buda Castle. Eden may pretend not to care, but we all know she secretly feels like a queen.

4. Tokyo, Japan

Tokyo is where tradition meets tech, which is basically what raising a teenager feels like. Start in Harajuku for quirky fashion (and plenty of eye-rolling from your daughter), then head to a tea ceremony to confuse her even more. It’s fast-paced, fun, and a bit chaotic—just like motherhood.

 • Stay: Park Hyatt Tokyo – Feel like Scarlett Johansson in Lost in Translation for a second.
 • Do: Explore Harajuku for quirky street fashion and a peek into Japan’s pop culture. It’s Eden’s dream; your fashion nightmare.

Highlight: Hitting up a themed café together. Whether it’s cats, robots, or even ninjas, Tokyo’s got a weird café for everyone. Pro tip: Let your daughter pick, so you don’t seem like the ultimate buzzkill.

5. Paris, France

Yes, it’s cliché, but it’s Paris. If there’s anywhere you want to take your daughter before she grows up and starts telling people she raised herself, it’s here. Share croissants, attempt to discuss art at the Louvre, and take a million selfies under the Eiffel Tower.

 • Stay: Le Meurice – Right across from the Louvre, so she can take all the selfies while you admire the art.
 • Eat: Angelina for the best hot chocolate in the city. Trust me, it’s so rich it’s basically a meal.
 • Do: Take a walking tour of Montmartre, the artsy neighborhood where you can pretend you’re both effortlessly chic.

Highlight: A mother-daughter shopping spree on the Champs-Élysées.

6. Santorini, Greece

Santorini looks like someone dipped a postcard in real life. The white-washed buildings and crystal-clear waters make it the perfect place for bonding. Plus, the sunsets? Let’s just say even your too-cool-for-school daughter might drop the sarcasm for a minute.

 • Stay: Canaves Oia Hotel – Luxury cave-style rooms with views that scream “I’m better than you” to all your friends back home.
 • Eat: Lotza- Seaside dining.
 • Do: Sunset sailing tour. Bond on a boat while pretending you’re starring in Mamma Mia.

Highlight: An evening spent lounging in Oia, sipping on mocktails (or real ones for you) while watching the sun dip into the Aegean Sea. Mother-daughter perfection.

7. Reykjavik, Iceland

Iceland

For the adventurous duo who isn’t afraid of a little cold, Iceland is a win. You can bond over the otherworldly landscapes—waterfalls, glaciers, geysers—and the fact that neither of you knew exactly where Iceland was before booking the trip. Plus, the Blue Lagoon will make her spa-worthy Instagram dreams come true.

 • Stay: ION Adventure Hotel – This eco-luxury hotel is close to all the natural wonders you want to explore.
 • Eat: Grillmarkaðurinn – A trendy spot with local flavors like reindeer, puffin, and even whale (but maybe just stick with the salmon).
 • Do: Northern Lights. Sure, you’ll probably freeze, but if you spot them, it’s worth the cold shoulder from your daughter.

Highlight: Chasing the Northern Lights. Even if you don’t catch them, you’ll still get major points for effort.

8. Lisbon, Portugal

Lisbon is a vibrant, colorful, and packed coastal city with history that somehow feels cool even to teenagers. Wander through the maze-like streets of Alfama, snack on pastéis de nata (custard tarts that are worth the sugar rush), and take tram rides like you’re in a Wes Anderson film.

 • Stay: Bairro Alto Hotel – Stay in the heart of Lisbon’s artsy district.
 • Eat: Time Out Market – A food hall with tons of stalls serving everything from seafood to pastries.
 • Do: Take a day trip to Sintra to explore the magical palaces and feel like you’ve stepped into a fairytale.

Highlight: A day trip to Sintra, where you can explore magical palaces and forests, aka the perfect backdrop for rolling your eyes at each other.

9. Bali, Indonesia

If your ideal mother-daughter trip involves beaches, spas, and a bit of yoga to keep the Zen vibes going (ha, sure), then Bali is your go-to. It’s laid-back and luxurious, with plenty of spots to explore—think temples, waterfalls, and rice terraces that look like they came straight out of a screensaver.

 • Stay: Four Seasons Sayan – Gorgeous villas surrounded by rice fields and jungle.
 • Eat: Locavore – A high-end dining experience in Ubud that’s as Instagrammable as it is delicious.
 • Do: Take a yoga class together and then laugh about how inflexible you are afterward.

Highlight: A traditional Balinese massage at a luxe spa.

10. Edinburgh, Scotland

If you both love history, castles, and the moody weather that makes cozying up in a pub sound just right, Edinburgh should be on your list. Explore the winding streets, visit the famous Edinburgh Castle, and soak in the old-world charm that’ll have both of you wishing you lived in a Harry Potter novel (spoiler: J.K. Rowling wrote a lot of it here!).

 • Stay: The Balmoral Hotel – A luxurious hotel where J.K. Rowling finished writing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I mean, if that’s not cool, what is?
 • Eat: The Witchery by the Castle – A super atmospheric restaurant with gothic vibes right next to the castle. Eden will either find it totally cool or totally creepy (and maybe both).
 • Do: Climb Arthur’s Seat for panoramic views of the city. It’s an easy enough hike, but Eden will probably still find a reason to call it torture halfway up.

Highlight: Ghost tours at night. Because nothing bonds a mother and daughter like mutually scaring the life out of each other. There are signs for free ghost tours that you can just show up for. That’s what we did. At the end you just tip the ghost guide.

11. Cruising the Caribbean

Allure of the Seas Mother daughter trip

Let’s talk about the time Eden and I cruised the Caribbean on Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas—a floating city where boredom is impossible. Whether you’re zip-lining across the ship, lounging by the pool, or indulging in way too much ice cream, cruising offers a little bit of everything for both mom and daughter. Plus, the Caribbean itself is just an unbeatable backdrop for those sun-soaked bonding moments.

 • Stay: Your floating hotel on Allure of the Seas. Trust me, the rooms are bigger than you’d expect.
 • Eat: Giovanni’s Table onboard for some top-notch Italian fare.
 • Do: Zip-lining on the ship. You’re zip-lining… on a ship. Does it get cooler than that? Eden would say yes, but she’s wrong.

Highlight: Exploring ports like Belize or Cozumel together.

12. Sri Lanka

Whitewater rafting in Sri Lanka is a top thing to do for families with teens

Sri Lanka is the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation, which makes it ideal for the mother-daughter duo who can never decide between “go, go, go” and “sit by the beach all day.” Explore the tea plantations, visit the ancient city of Sigiriya, and if you’re both feeling brave, head on a safari in one of the country’s lush national parks.

 • Stay: Cape Weligama – A luxury resort with infinity pools that scream, “Instagram me.”
 • Eat: Ministry of Crab in Colombo for the freshest seafood. Eden might not care, but you will.
 • Do: Go on a safari in Yala National Park. Leopards, elephants, and…bonding time, in the wild!

Highlight: Taking a scenic train ride from Kandy to Ella. The views of the rolling hills and tea estates will make both of you forget about Wi-Fi for at least a minute.

13. Ireland

Cliffs of Moher in Ireland

If rolling green hills, castles straight out of a fairytale, and pubs with live music sound like your idea of heaven, then Ireland is the ultimate mother-daughter trip. Plus, the locals are so friendly you’ll leave convinced you have at least three new cousins.

 • Do: Cliffs of Moher – Because no trip to Ireland is complete without standing on the edge of a cliff, wind whipping your hair into a bird’s nest, and yelling “I’m the queen of the world!”
 • Stay: Castle Leslie – Because nothing says “quality mother-daughter bonding” like pretending you’re royalty while someone else brings you tea in a literal castle.
 • Eat: Chapter One in Dublin – Michelin-star dining with modern Irish cuisine. You’ll feel fancy while still pretending you know what half the ingredients are.

No matter where you go, the secret to the perfect mother-daughter trip isn’t in the destination—it’s in those moments when you look at each other, laugh, and say, “Can you believe we actually did this?” And if all else fails, there’s always shopping.
