How to Float a River with Kids

One of our favorite outdoor activities to do as a family is float the river. It’s relaxing and fun. We typically float for half a day so somewhere between 3 – 5 hours. If you’ve never floated a river, it can be a little intimidating even though there’s no skill needed. There are a few designated areas that I call out below where you can float.

There are some things you need to know before you float. For example, what to wear and how to chill your drinks.  Use your judgment and make sure conditions are safe before heading out.

What to wear while floating the river:

• Clothes and shoes that can get wet like your swimsuit
• Shoes that stay on your feet, like river sandals, aqua socks, or even tennis shoes you don’t mind getting wet. Do not wear flip flops.
• Sunglasses
• If you wear glasses, straps to keep them secure are a good idea.
• Hat
• Wearable Drybag

Other Items to Bring

• Raft or tubes: In Texas, tubes are ideal, because it’s so hot and the water is warm. In Oregon and Idaho, rafts are better because the water is so cold.
• Life jackets: Laws vary by state, but everyone should always have a life jacket. Never take a child into a river without a life jacket.
• Paddles: You may not need them, but on the off chance you do, you will be happy to have them with you.
• Sunscreen
• Snacks: Pack snacks with minimal packaging.
• Non-alcoholic beverages
• Water: It’s important that everyone stays well hydrated while out in the sun.
• Mesh laundry bag: I use a mesh laundry bag and fill it with drinks and tie it to our raft. Typically the water is so cold it will keep the drinks super cold.
• Waterproof camera: Nowadays there are lots of waterproof cameras on the market.
• Air Pump: You will want to quickly fill up your tubes and rafts.

What else to bring, but leave in the car until the end:

• A change of dry clothes
• Towel

What Not to Bring

• Glass bottles or containers
• Styrofoam coolers or cups

Where to Float a River with Kids

Florida:

Fort White offers the most popular place to float in Florida at Ichetcucknee Springs State Park and is open May – September.

• Visitors bringing tubes into the park:  Enter park at the north park entrance located at 8294 SW Elim Church Road.
• Drivers will leave tubes and passengers at the tube drop off location in the upper parking lot area.
• Drivers will proceed to the South main entrance parking area located at 12087 SW U.S. Highway 27.
• Drivers will purchase a shuttle bracelet for transportation to North main entrance tube drop off from the general store. (The driver can also purchase tram bracelets for everyone in their party)
• Visitors renting tubes from within the park will need to enter the park at South main entrance instead, located at 12087 SW U.S. Highway 27.

Between Jacksonville and Tallahassee is Madison Blue Spring State Park, where you can float on weekends from May to September.

In Apopka, you can float Rock Springs Run in Kelly Park. Bring your own, or rent tubes for $5 – $7 from private outfitters located just outside the park. The float trip is short, it only takes about 25 minutes.  When you are done, it is a 5-minute walk on a paved sidewalk back to the start. The deepest part is about 5 feet and is much shallower in many places.

In High Springs you can do a short float down the Santa Fe River at Ginnie Springs. Put in at Devil’s Spring and float for an hour. You will exit at Twin Spring and walk back to where you parked. It takes around 15 minutes to walk back on the tubing trail. There are free air stations located in the park.

In Holt, in the Florida panhandle is Blackwater River State Park. Blackwater River offers a four-mile stretch of water that will take you 3-5 hours to float.

Spring Creek in Marianna near Tallahassee offers a four-hour tubing experience.  Start at Merrit’s Mill Pond where Spring Creek opens up to the Chipola River.

Georgia:

Near Atlanta, in Roswell, you can float the Chattahoochee River. You will only want to float here if it is over 80 degrees outside because the water is cold.

In Blue Ridge, the Toccoa River offers smooth rides through the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Idaho:

In Boise, you can float the Boise River.  (Some people even surf it, but we just float!) You can park your car at Ann Morrison Park and catch a bus. For a few dollars, the bus will take you up the river and drop you off at Barber Park. Last time we paid $2 per adult and they didn’t charge me for the kids. At the drop off point, there’s air available and you can inflate your raft or tube. You can also rent a raft or tube where they drop you off. I recommend using a raft because this river is extremely cold. It takes about two hours to float back down to the park. There are two small drops so you will have to hang on to your kids a few times.

Oklahoma:

In Oklahoma, in Chickasaw Country, you can float the Washita River. Washita River Floats will take you up the river and drop you off for a 4 mile float. It will take between 2.5 – 4 hours depending on how the river is moving. 

Oregon:

There are several rivers that you can float in Oregon, but we tend to stick to the same one. We float the Sandy River near Troutdale, Oregon. Start at Dabny State Park and pull out at Lewis and Clark state park. You do have to pay to leave your car in both of the parks. The last time we went it was $5 and they took credit cards.

Texas:

For the most part, there are shuttles available along popular Texas rivers. In Texas, the only legal access points are where bridges cross a navigable river. Keep this in mind if you’re doing it yourself and not using a shuttle service. The tube rental/shuttle companies are fairly cheap and make the whole thing super easy.

In San Antonio, you can float the Comal or Guadalupe River. Near San Antonio in Bandera is also the Medina River that can be floated

In San Marcos, you can float the San Marcos River.

In Austin, you can float the Barton Creek Greenbelt. There are no shuttles or tube rental outfits here.

In the Dallas/Fort Worth area, you can float the Trinity River.

Best Places to go Tubing in Texas

Virginia:

Most people float the South Fork of the Shenandoah River in Shenandoah Valley. Virginia has a no drinking in public law, so leave the booze at home.

Washington:

Yakima River Canyon is a popular place to float near Yakima, Washington. – Start at Umtanum for a three-hour float to Roza. Leave one car at Roza, this is where you will pull out of the river. It will likely cost $5 per car to park.

Get Travel Insurance

Unfortunately, there are a lot of things that can go wrong on any trip. Be prepared for the worst with travel insurance. We use Travelex or Safety Wing (often cheaper).

Book Flights

Book a Place to Stay

I recommend using Expedia.com or Hotels.com for most hotel bookings. I prefer to book directly with Marriott when I stay there because of their excellent military discount.

If you prefer staying in a vacation rental instead, I recommend VRBO. If you are looking for a hostel, I use HostelWorld.

Choose Activities and Tours

To find great activities in any area I use Viator. If we are visiting a city with lots of popular attractions I always check CityPass, PogoPass, and GoCard to see if they have discount cards available. Groupon also tends to have a lot of local travel deals.

When I want to book a full-on multi-day tour I use TourRadar. They’ve got fantastic weekly deals. If going somewhere in Mexico or the Caribbean, I use Apple Vacations.

Rent a Car or Get a Lyft

Weekend Getaways Less than 2.5 hours from Dallas

Weatherford – 57 minutes, 61 miles

Just an hour west of Dallas lies Weatherford, Texas. This charming town offers plenty of activities for outdoor enthusiasts, including fishing, camping, and hiking. The town also boasts several historic sites like the Parker County Courthouse and the Texas & Pacific Railway Depot Museum. We recommend staying at Fuller’s Folly Ranch.

Glen Rose – 1 hour 15 minutes, 76 miles

A short drive southwest from Dallas will bring you to Glen Rose, Texas where you can explore Dinosaur Valley State Park or Fossil Rim Wildlife Center! Both offer unique opportunities to observe wildlife in their natural habitats as well as educational programs about conservation efforts in the area. You can also visit the nearby Comanche Peak Wilderness Area for some incredible views of Dinosaur Valley State Park from above!

Waco – 1 hour 19 minutes, 94 miles

Waco is located two hours south of Dallas and is home to Baylor University as well as a number of other attractions like Cameron Park Zoo and Magnolia Market at the Silos. Take a stroll through downtown Waco or visit one of its many museums like the Mayborn Museum Complex or Dr Pepper Museum & Free Enterprise Institute. For those looking for some outdoor fun, Waco is also home to Lake Waco where you can go boating or swimming in the summer months!

Chickasaw Country – 1 hour 44 minutes, 107 miles

Caddo Lake State Park – 2 hours 23 minutes, 167 miles

Caddo Lake State Park is located about 2.5 hours away from Dallas but it’s worth making the trip if you’re looking for a peaceful escape into nature. Here visitors will find picturesque cypress trees draped in Spanish moss along with winding bayous that are perfect spots to canoe or kayak.

The lake itself is full of wildlife such as alligators so keep your eyes peeled! In addition to all this natural beauty, there are also plenty of opportunities for camping fishing swimming boating picnicking bird watching photography hiking biking horseback riding geocaching stargazing, and more!

Weekend Getaways 3 hours from Dallas

Broken Bow – 2 hours 46 minutes, 182 miles

Just three hours from Dallas lies Broken Bow – known for being one of Oklahoma’s most popular tourist destinations due to its proximity to Beavers Bend State Park and Hochatown State Park which are both great spots for camping, fishing, kayaking, horseback riding or simply enjoying nature at its finest! Plus don’t forget about Broken Bow Lake which offers breathtaking views year-round making it an ideal spot for photography enthusiasts too!

Austin, Texas – 3 hours, 196 miles

If you’re looking for a weekend getaway from Dallas that’s close by and full of fun, then Austin is the perfect choice. This vibrant city offers something for everyone, from live music venues to outdoor activities like kayaking on Lady Bird Lake. Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – 2 hours 56 minutes, 207 miles

Oklahoma City may not be as well-known as other cities on this list but it definitely deserves a spot if you’re looking for a quick weekend getaway from Dallas. There are plenty of things to do here including visiting local museums and galleries or taking in some live music at one of the city’s many venues. Plus, there are plenty of great restaurants serving up delicious cuisine!

Marble Falls – 3 hours 6 minutes, 209 miles

Located just an hour outside of Dallas, Marble Falls is the perfect place to get away for a weekend and enjoy some peace and quiet. With its stunning lakeside views, it’s easy to forget about the hustle and bustle of city life. Spend your days fishing in Lake Marble Falls or exploring the nearby parks and trails. We recommend staying at The Retreat on the Hill.

Wimberley – 3 hours 31 minutes, 235 miles

Wimberley is located just an hour south of Austin but still close enough to enjoy all that Austin has to offer while having access to small-town charm at the same time!

Here you can explore Blue Hole Regional Park which features a beautiful swimming hole surrounded by lush greenery – perfect for cooling off during hot summer days! Or take a walk around downtown Wimberley with its many shops and galleries filled with local artisans’ work – definitely worth checking out when visiting this part of Texas!

Gruene Historic District – 3 hours 25 minutes, 240 miles

Gruene Historic District is located about 3 hours away from Dallas but it’s worth making the trip if you’re looking for an old-fashioned weekend getaway.

Fredericksburg – 4 hours, 262 miles

Fredericksburg, Texas is known for its German heritage and beautiful Hill Country scenery! Spend your days exploring Main Street with its unique shops and restaurants before taking a drive out to Enchanted Rock State Natural Area for some amazing views of this beautiful region!

Galveston is a popular weekend destination for those living in Dallas due to its proximity and wide range of attractions. Whether you want to spend your days lounging on the beach or exploring historic sites like Moody Mansion, there’s something here for everyone. And don’t forget about the seafood – Galveston is known for its fresh seafood restaurants! Galveston has lots of fabulous VRBOs to stay in. 

Houston – 4 hours, 239 miles

Houston may not be considered a “weekend getaway” per se but it’s definitely worth mentioning here since it’s only four hours away from Dallas by car – plus there are so many things that make Houston such an amazing destination: world-class museums like The Menil Collection; exciting nightlife spots along Washington Avenue; delicious restaurants serving up authentic Texan cuisine; plus lush parks like Hermann Park where visitors can relax after spending their day exploring everything that this vibrant city has to offer! I recommend staying at Marriott Marquis. They have a river you can float in the shape of Texas!

We recently spent a few days exploring the Live Music Capital of the World with a crew of teenagers in tow, and it ended up being one of our favorite trips yet. Austin is funky, fast-paced, and filled with things to do that somehow appeal to both teens and parents. From immersive museums and bat-watching cruises to outrageous donuts, kayaking on Lady Bird Lake, and even duckpin bowling, this city delivers one memorable moment after another.

Here’s your ultimate guide to visiting Austin with teenagers: where to stay, what to eat, what to do, and most importantly—how to keep everyone happy.

Where to Stay in Austin With Teenagers

Let’s start with the basics. Where you stay in Austin can make or break your trip—especially with teens who seem to need snacks, A/C, and a change of clothes every 45 minutes. We stayed at the Austin Motel, a retro gem in the heart of South Congress (SoCo). Not only is it packed with character (and photo ops), but it’s connected to Joann’s Fine Foods, which means parents can enjoy a margarita while the teens scroll through their photos from the day.

The motel’s central location made it easy to walk to nearby shops, coffee spots, and restaurants—no need to constantly hop in and out of the car, which let’s be honest, makes everyone’s day better. Check current rates at the Austin Motel.

Best Breakfasts and Donuts in Austin

Let’s get one thing straight—when traveling with teens, you’re basically on a food tour. And that starts with breakfast.

Jo’s Coffee was a unanimous favorite. The lattes here are legendary, with the Pecan Pie Latte and White Sands Latte winning top honors. They’re sweet, strong, and perfect for sipping while snapping a photo in front of the iconic “I love you so much” mural just outside. Eden had the migas breakfast sandwich and it was so good the rest of us regret not getting it.

On another morning, we made a sugary pilgrimage to The Salty Donut. These are no ordinary donuts. Think brown butter and sea salt, maple bacon, and tres leches-style decadence that somehow count as breakfast. My favorite was the horchata donut, so creamy. The donuts make up for the fact that the staff is the rudest in town! Take them to go so you can reduce interaction with them. I recommend Alliance Park, the views are spectacular.

And because you can never have too many donuts, we also hit up Gordough’s, known for its outrageous toppings and deep-fried-to-order creations. The teens were thrilled, and we temporarily forgot we were adults responsible for their well-being. Worth it. I did not realize we could have ordered a smaller version of each, which I recommend because these are loaded!

Snacks and Swing-Set Lunches

Mid-morning caffeine and snacks are essential when exploring Austin’s walkable neighborhoods in the heat.

We made a stop at Loudmouth Pizza, where we discovered the joy of their burrata—yes, burrata not the pizza. It was equal parts creamy and pairs with crispy just the right amount of crunch, with enough flavor to silence even the pickiest eater in our group. That’s saying something. The pizza was good too and the winner of best new pizza place in Austin by the Austin Chronicle. The cruise is pretty thin, FYI. They have a kids’ area outside that my neices thought was super fun and the patio is dog friendly.

For lunch one day, we headed to Freddo ATX, where the food is great but the vibe is even better. Their massive patio is lined picnic tables and even a few swing seats—yes, swings—where teens can eat, scroll, and chill all at once. It’s the kind of unique detail that makes lunch feel more like an experience than a meal. Plus, the patio is dog-friendly. Warning: the meatball sandwich is massive and way to messy for kids to eat.

Guero’s Taco Bar: Late lunch one day turned into the best Mexican food we had in Austin. Their tacos were bold and flavorful, the salsa bar was well-stocked, and the chips were crunchy perfection. Bonus: live music if you hit it at the right time.

Activities That Kept the Teens Off Their Phones (Mostly)

Keeping teens entertained without a screen is a feat, but Austin makes it surprisingly doable. Here’s what kept ours busy:

Pins Mechanical Company

Yes, this is bowling, but make it cool. At Pins Mechanical, we played duckpin bowling—a fun twist on the classic with smaller pins and balls. It’s more social, less competitive, and incredibly entertaining. They also have old-school arcade games, which meant parents could show off their Ms. Pac-Man skills while teens challenged each other to ping-pong battles. They only service drinks but there are two food carts outside where you can grab food and bring it in.

Rowing Dock on Lady Bird Lake

Nothing beats seeing Austin from the water. We rented kayaks at Rowing Dock and paddled along Lady Bird Lake, which is flanked by the city skyline on one side and lush greenery on the other. It was equal parts exercise and relaxation, and gave us all a chance to take in the city’s beauty from a totally different perspective. The best part? You can go at your own pace, which means teens can chill while parents pretend they’re in a workout montage.

Museum of Illusions

Hands down, one of the most engaging museums we visited. The Museum of Illusions offers interactive exhibits, optical tricks, and gravity-defying rooms that are tailor-made for selfies and laughter. Even the teens who normally scoff at museums couldn’t help but get into the spirit here.

Blanton Museum of Art

For a more traditional but still teen-friendly art experience, we visited the Blanton Museum of Art. With its stunning modern architecture, colorful installations, and wide variety of contemporary and classical works, it sparked some real conversations (yes, really) and gave everyone a welcome break from the Texas heat.

Bat-Watching Cruise on Lady Bird Lake

One of the most unforgettable experiences of the trip was the Capital Cruise sunset bat cruise. Each evening from March to October, over a million Mexican free-tailed bats emerge from beneath the Congress Avenue Bridge and fly off into the night sky. We took a guided boat cruise to watch the spectacle from the water, and it was—surprisingly—one of the highlights for everyone. The boat ride alone was peaceful and scenic, and the bats gave us a taste of Austin’s famous weirdness in the best way.

Cathedral of Junk

Another favorite? The Cathedral of Junk. It’s literally a tower made of, well, junk—but teens will find it fascinating and oddly Instagrammable. It’s weird in the best possible way, and a very Austin thing to do.

Texas State Capitol

For a different kind of culture, we also checked out the Texas State Capitol. While teens may not love history class, the grandeur and scale of the building are still impressive in person. Plus, it’s free and gives everyone a breather in the air conditioning.

Barton Springs Pool

If your teens are melting in the Texas sun (and you’re questioning your life choices for visiting Austin in July), there’s one magical place that will restore everyone’s will to live: Barton Springs Pool.

This natural spring-fed pool stays a brisk 68–70 degrees year-round, which means it’s cold—and therefore essential on hot days. It’s massive, surrounded by grassy hills perfect for lounging or people-watching, and has enough space that even your teen can find their own little corner of chill.

Hat Bar at Longhorn Fashions

The most affordable hat bar in town is near campus at Longhorns Fashion. You can customize a cowboy hat, fashion hat, or beach hat.

Ice Cream

Travel tip: any time you sense your teen might spiral into hanger-fueled meltdown, just mention ice cream. We kept this trick up our sleeve and made multiple stops at three standouts:

Amy’s Ice Creams: A longtime Austin favorite with fun flavors and even more fun staff who flip scoops like acrobats.

OMG Squee: A kawaii-inspired dessert shop offering adorable Asian-American treats like ube soft serve and mochi waffles. It’s 100% Instagram bait.

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams: A more upscale scoop shop with unique, creamy concoctions like Brambleberry Crisp and Gooey Butter Cake. Let’s just say the parents were not sharing.

BBQ Without the Tourist Lines

You haven’t done Austin right until you’ve eaten Texas BBQ—but we didn’t want to wait in line for four hours with hangry teens. So we opted for the East Austin “Locals Know” BBQ Tour, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions of the trip.

This insider experience took us to hidden gems where the food is top-tier and the lines are nonexistent for those on the tour. We met passionate pitmasters, learned the history of Austin barbecue, and tried everything from brisket to ribs to jalapeño sausage. Even the teens admitted it was amazing—and they were too busy eating to complain.

Dinner Winners: Where to Eat With Teenagers in the Evening

Austin’s food scene is the stuff of legend, and thankfully, it doesn’t go to sleep early. We had several standout dinners that even the moodiest among us enjoyed.

Loro was a top pick. This Asian smokehouse fuses Texas BBQ with Southeast Asian flavors, creating dishes that are inventive without being intimidating. The smoked brisket with chili gastrique? Chef’s kiss. The teens devoured everything from sweet corn fritters to crispy potatoes.

Another dinner highlight was Bouldin Acres, where you can eat and play pickleball all in one spot. It’s casual, fun, and the kind of place where parents and teens can relax together without anyone feeling awkward or out of place. Just be prepared—if you challenge your teen to a game, bring your A-game or prepare for days of gloating. For those traveling with kids, there’s a playground on-site as well.

One night we opted for dinner and happy hour at Joann’s Fine Foods, conveniently located next to our motel. The menu balances Texas comfort food with a little retro flair—think enchiladas, grilled shrimp tacos, and spicy queso paired with house margaritas. There’s a great patio, cozy booths, and just the right amount of buzz to feel lively without being chaotic. For happy hour they have $5 margaritas and half-off appetizers like the super yummy hashbrowns nachos!

Exploring South Congress and the Must-Do Spots

South Congress (SoCo) is easily one of Austin’s most entertaining streets for exploring with teenagers. There’s a constant hum of live music, people-watching galore, and more photo-worthy murals than any of us could count.

We browsed through shops like Allen’s Boots, where rows and rows of cowboy boots line the walls, and Lucy in Disguise with Diamonds, an eccentric costume and vintage shop packed with wigs, masks, and glitter everything. Teens will either be fascinated or mildly horrified—either way, they’ll remember it.

We also stopped in at Yard Dog Art Gallery and Tesoros Trading Company, both of which offer a mix of funky local art and global treasures that might actually interest your teen who claims to hate shopping.

Final Thoughts: How to Actually Enjoy Austin With Teenagers

So, what’s the secret to enjoying Austin with teenagers? Here’s what we learned:

• Food is the gateway to cooperation: Plan your day around meals and snacks. If you’re constantly five minutes from your next bite, you’re golden.
• Let them help plan: Giving teens ownership over one activity a day gives them a reason to be invested (and slightly less whiny).
• Balance structure with spontaneity: Build in a few anchor experiences, but leave plenty of room to wander, discover, and be surprised. Except that they may also need an hour or two downtown in the hotel during the day.
• Stay centrally located: So you can walk, cool off, and crash without needing a 30-minute drive.

Austin gave us more than just a good time—it gave us a rare stretch of family togetherness where everyone, somehow, had fun. The city’s playful spirit, phenomenal food scene, and surprising charm make it the perfect destination for traveling with teenagers who may not always want to hang out with you—but will totally thank you later. Probably. Maybe. Eventually.

It’s also about learning the stories behind each legendary pitmaster, understanding the history of Texas BBQ, and discovering why East Austin has become a hotspot for culinary genius.

My Take: This is the most unique BBQ joint in the city. Middle Eastern spices on perfectly smoked lamb? YES PLEASE. Plus, the Baladine salad gave us a tangy refresh between bites. (Also: Kareem is as nice as he is talented.)

JK, I never did any art at all but this is my favorite hotel in Austin so far. I highly appreciated the Nespresso and rooftop poo,l while Eden loved being able to check out an album in the lobby for us to play on the record player in our room. Plus, it’s part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection, which means they’re fancy-fancy. Check rates at the Otis Hotel on Marriott.

Shop Till You Drop in the Square

Georgetown’s Historic Downtown Square is a shopaholic’s dream. Spend the day perusing local boutiques like Teal Sky for unique accessories or All Things Kids for charming gifts and treasures. Don’t forget to pop into Georgetown Antique Mall for vintage finds that spark nostalgia. I found a gorgeous wreath at All Things New Florals & Design by Debra.

Georgetown Winery

Gather your crew and sample some of Texas’s finest wines at this cozy winery right in the historic square. Both of my friends prefer sweeter wines and they had a bunch. If you prefer sweet wine this is definitely the winery you want to prioritize. I love reds and they had plenty of those too. A tasting includes four 2 oz samples for $18.

Blue Hole Park

Inner Space Cavern

Add a touch of adventure by exploring these fascinating underground caves. The tour is fun and educational—and the perfect escape from the Texas heat or if it’s raining you can escape that too because the cave doesn’t flood. We did the shortest tour which I thought was excellent. If you are a hard core adventurer you can go spelunking down there. They also have a fun zip ride here you can do to, but it was raining the day we went so it wasn’t running.

Sweet Eats Farm

For a whimsical experience, visit this charming farm for seasonal activities and fresh local produce. It’s great for photo ops, too! When we visited the pumpkin patch had ended but you could still walk through the corn maze. Other activities included a zip line, pig races, a petting zoo, a bounce pillow, horse rides, apple cannons, and more. You could spend all day here quite easily. When we went there were dinosaurs everywhere.

Hard Count Kitchen

For a laid-back lunch or dinner, Hard Count offers hearty meals with a sophisticated twist. Think comfort food, but make it gourmet. I had the enchiladas and they were so good. My friend Lindsey highly recommends the Monte Cristo she had. I saw that they have a really good happy hour every day from 3 – 6 PM with $6 drinks. Located just across the street from the Sheraton at 1500 Rivery Blvd Suite 2105, Georgetown, TX 78628.

Sweet Lemon

This charming spot is perfect for coffee dates, light bites, and unique lattes. Their pastries and salads are a must-try. I had a scone and the coffee cake and both were wonderful. I took a bite on of Lindsey’s kolache and it was super good too. Even better was her snickerdoodle latte I also had to try!

Sunday Brunch at Encantada

This elevated Mexican eatery along the river is ideal for a fancy brunch or an indulgent dinner with its chic ambiance and Mexican inspired dishes. In case you are wondering if this used to be El Monumento, yes it was. It’s under new ownership as of late October 2024 but still just as delicious. I had the tres leches french toast because I was trying to be unhealthy and it was well worth it. Located at 205 W 2nd St, Georgetown, TX 78626.

Monument Cafe

No Georgetown trip is complete without a visit to this iconic diner. Go for the classic comfort food and stay for the slice of pie—because life’s too short to skip dessert. I got the brunch drink flight. It came with a Bloody Mary, two types of mimosas, and a blackberry margarita. Their Bloody Mary’s are perfect. Our whole breakfast was so good we almost went back the next day. Located at 500 S Austin Ave, Georgetown, TX 78626.
