Best Texas Wines You Need to Try
When I moved back to Texas, I expected the usual suspects—barbecue, boots, and big trucks. What I didn’t expect? A booming wine scene that could actually rival some of my favorites from California.
Now, I love a good glass of wine (okay, sometimes two), and after spending over five years sipping my way across the state, I’ve tried a lot of Texas wines. Enough that I finally feel qualified—dare I say, obligated—to share some of the very best I’ve discovered.
This list includes reds and whites, though I’ll admit I tend to gravitate toward bold, velvety reds. If you’re planning a winery trip or just want to elevate your next dinner at home, here are the Texas wines worth uncorking.
Table of Contents
1. Ron Yates 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon

📍 Hye, TX
If you’re looking for a Texas Cab that’ll knock your boots off, this is the one. I was honestly shocked at how much this reminded me of a good Paso Robles cabernet. Rich, complex, and smooth—this one is an absolute standout.
2. Kuhlman Cellars 2021 Kuhlmanation Estate White

📍 Stonewall, TX
Not usually a white wine drinker? Neither am I. But this slightly sweet white is refreshingly balanced, making it perfect for sipping on a hot Texas afternoon. It’s the kind of wine you bring to a girls’ night—and then realize you should’ve brought two bottles.
3. Invention Vineyards Riesling

📍 Fredericksburg, TX
This one brings all the juicy green apple and citrus notes without being overly sweet. Think crisp and clean, like a summer breeze through the Hill Country—if the breeze had a nice buzz.
4. Invention Vineyards LB (Left Bank Red)
📍 Fredericksburg, TX
This Bordeaux-style blend leans heavily on Cabernet Sauvignon, which is probably why I love it so much. It’s rich, layered, and just chef’s kiss when paired with a good steak or a hearty charcuterie board.
5. 2021 Re:Rooted Dos Reyes

📍 San Antonio, TX
This 50/50 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot is a beautiful balance of cranberry, earth, walnut, and baking spice. It’s like fall in a glass—but make it Texan. Bonus: Re:Rooted 210’s tasting room in downtown San Antonio’s Hemisfair Park is super chic and worth a visit.
6. Wedding Oak Winery Wines

📍 San Saba, TX + Fredericksburg + Burnet
Wedding Oak has a pretty solid lineup, but I especially like their reds for a cozy night in. I didn’t list a specific vintage here because honestly, it’s hard to go wrong. If you see it on a wine list, order it and thank me later.
Texas wine might not have the international fame of Napa or Bordeaux (yet), but don’t let that fool you. The Lone Star State is absolutely holding its own, and these bottles prove it.
Have a favorite Texas wine I should try next? Let me know—I’ll never say no to a new bottle.
