Shuswap Lake is a gorgeous lake located in south-central British Columbia, Canada that drains into Little Shuswap Lake.

Our family travel has taken us house boating on Lake Shuswap, a provincial park, in Canada once again. Here are pictures of our house boating trip in British Columbia at Lake Shuswap.

I think Lake Shuswap is one of the prettiest places I have ever been. It is so peaceful and calm. Both times we have been have been house boating up here is in the off-season, so the lake is not crowded at all. We went both weeks hardly seeing any other people at all. This I can assure you makes for some really amazing quality family time. I have heard that later in the summer the lake is super crowded and it can be difficult to find places to beach at night.

Even when it rained a few times we just stayed inside reading and playing board games with the kids. If you are looking for a vacation where everyone is “unplugged” I highly recommend house boating. Especially up here in Canada where you will have little to no cell phone service.

House Boating on Lake Shuswap is nice because there are plenty of places to beach overnight. The Company that you rent your boat from should provide you with a map that clearly marks which beaches are okay for overnight beaching.

We only saw one bear while we were beaching. We just waited around for the bear to leave and then we untied and hauled booty out of there!

If you drive up from the United States, be sure to fill up your gas tank before you cross the border and buy groceries! Both are much more expensive in Canada.

When trying to decide what kind of amenities you will need in a houseboat I recommend making sure it has a hot tub! It’s great if there is a slide too, but the water is so cold up there it doesn’t really matter.

If you’re looking for a unique vacation destination that will leave you with lasting memories, look no further than Lake Shuswap in British Columbia, Canada – the houseboat capital of Canada! With miles of shoreline to explore and numerous activities available, there’s something for everyone at this beautiful lake. So pack your bags and head to Lake Shuswap for an unforgettable getaway!
