The charm of Puerto Vallarta unveils Mexican cheerfulness. This pretty town lies on the west coast of the country at the threshold of Sierra Madre Mountain. The capital of Jalisco state bursts with colourful murals and statues. The stunning beaches scatter in its proximity giving delight to all tastes.

Enjoying Malécon or seaside promenade in Puerto Vallarta is one of the most popular activities. It brings marvelous sunsets and a relaxing atmosphere.

Exploring the Romantic Zonepuerto vallarta romantic zone

The Old Town of Vallarta or Romantic Zone is the area where colourful vibes take the rule. Your kids will surely have fun while strolling along artistic sculptures. Mariachi, Puerto Vallarta sign and seaside reflections are just some of them. Restaurant decor bursts with Mexican traditions. The spectacular charm of Puerto Vallarta belongs to the fact that river blends with the sea.

The city is so picturesque and bougainvilleas will enchant your visit. Hidden corners will surprise you with amazing murals and sculptures. Romantic Zone is truly romantic in its essence. The artistic spirit will inspire kids not only to be more creative, but more cheerful.

Los Muertos PierLos Muertos Pier Puerto Vallarta

Los Muertos Pier is the highlight of Puerto Vallarta offering stunning views of the city beach. Playa de Los Muertos attracts numerous visitors, often getting crowded. Lovely restaurants and bars fill the area, as well as the souvenir vendors. The beach bursts with activities like banana boat rides or parasailing.

The pier itself was designed by the award-winning architect José de Jesus Torres Vega in 2013. Resembling a sailboat, its artistic charm is unquestionable. At night beautiful colours show up becoming more attractive to kids.

Only a short hiking trail will lead you to Playa Amapas, a cute and small beach. After passing the stunning viewpoints, you can get your slice of paradise here. The water looks even emerald at clear days.

Parque de los Azulejos colorful bench

The hidden treasure of Zona Romantica will inspire you and your kids with immense creativity. This mosaic tile park bursts with colours and gentleness. Also known as Lázaro Cárdenas Park it awakens the artistic soul of the city.

You will maybe not notice it right away as it’s not on the main promenade. Such a splendid place to chill is perfect to play and open new horizons.

More than 60 benches decorate the place, bringing loads of charm. Natasha Moranga initiated the idea, giving a new panorama of possibilities.

Choco Museum

This funny museum at the Malecon of Puerto Vallarta is definitely worth a visit. Your kids will learn to make chocolate and other sweets like ganache and truffles. Lovely caffe and shop have an abundant offer of chocolate products.

You’ll even learn the history of chocolate during the workshop. Getting a chance to try traditional chocolate drinks is another bonus.

River Market

Nestled at Cuale River Island, another surprise of Puerto Vallarta awaits. You cannot avoid the artistic decorations like the colourful vases before the entrance.

Hanging bridges will make your fun so pleasant while changing the ambience.

Amazing crafts intertwine with clothes, ceramics and souvenirs at local prices. Nearby restaurants and caffe bars will let you enjoy Mexican cuisine.

An island gives an oasis of wildness and definitely should be included in your itinerary. Maybe you’ll even spot iguanas.

Souvenir treasure will enchant everyone at this colourful place. Huichol art prevails as it represents the local mountains of Jalisco, Sierra Madre.

If you’re a cultural hunter, go visit Cuale Archaeological Museum at Cuale River Island. The kids will expand their horizons while learning about pre-Columbian history.

Amazing Beaches for families

The pristine atmosphere of Puerto Vallarta dwells at its lovely beaches. Some of the best ones are located a bit further from the city.

While the vibrant Playa de los Muertos will certainly entertain all your senses, plenty of other beaches await. Definitely head out of the city for a more tranquil atmosphere.

Conchas ChinasPlaya Conchas Chinas in Puerto Vallarta

This charming beach is the closest to Old Vallarta with fantastic colours to admire. Conchas Chinas is a very relaxing beach lying in the mountainous embrace. This beach is pretty suitable for small children. Waves are not too strong as rock formations created natural pools. This beach is often a venue for different romantic events.

Though there are no restaurants or bars at the beach itself, the area offers plenty of them. Many hotels scatter along this scenic route.

The Blue Flag certifies the clean waters which are also beneficial for various kinds of fishes here.

It’s easy to reach Conchas Chinas Beach going south of Puerto Vallarta. By bus it takes only 5 minutes from central Vallarta. You can also have a lovely 30 minutes walk from the city.

Playa Palmares

Playa Palmares is another lovely beach where white sand defines the charm. It’s only 7 km south of central Vallarta or 10 minutes by bus. It’s a very peaceful beach without many waves. Playa Palmares is a preferable choice of locals.

The beautifully decorated restaurant lies above the beach and it’s rare to see other places to eat and drink.

Playa de la GemelasPlaya de la Gemelas in Puerto Vallarta

Playa de la Gemelas is a true gem of the area. Due to its stunning colors, this little beach often gets crowded. The name (twin beach) literally describes the beach as it consists of two adjacent beaches.

The local vendors usually sell some fruits and snacks on the beach.

The location follows the coastal highway so it’s an easy 20 minutes drive from central Vallarta.

Mismaloya Beach

This mesmerizing beach is one of the best choices for a family vacation in Puerto Vallarta. 10 km south of downtown Puerto Vallarta you’ll find this tranquil oasis of paradise.

In 1964 it became famous by the film The Night of Iguana with Richard Burton. Barceló Hotel dominates at the northern side of this small beach. You can also find some lovely restaurants and beach vendors.

Los Arcos Marine Park gives the opportunity to go scuba diving and snorkeling. It’s a group of small islands with various rock arches and tunnels. Lying just in front of Mismaloya beach where you can experience biodiversity. This means seeing penguins, pelicans, coral reefs and various tropical fishes.

Playa de las Tortugas

Playa de las Tortugas lies on the North of Puerto Vallarta, offering stunning views of the city. Volunteering here at the Centre for the Protection of Turtles is especially popular with children and teenagers. Saving baby turtles helps the ocean and gives incredible experience. You can also buy different souvenirs.

Adventure Parks

The lush nature around Puerto Vallarta gave fantastic places which became adventure parks.

Nogalito Ecopark

Nogalito Ecopark is a paradise for outdoor lovers and it’s only 15 minutes by bus from downtown Vallarta. Taking either Canopy Zipline Tour or Fairy Hiking Tour, you’ll have lots of fun. Not only zipling, you can also visit an animal sanctuary, take a speedboat or swim in the river. Though suitable for older children, you’ll enjoy a relaxing atmosphere and scenic views.

The Fairy Hiking Tour will take you to the waterfalls through an easy trail.

Nogalito Ecopark offers one of the longest ziplines in Mexico and a fantastic adventure for the whole family.

The Las Animas Adventure Park

Las Animas Adventure Park is located south of Puerto Vallarta, near Boca de Tomatlan. The panorama of activities is pretty abundant and family-friendly. It includes rock climbing, canopy bridges, zipling, and swings on rope.

Some tours also offer dolphins and whale watching, sailing or snorkelling. You can also enjoy a delicious lunch at their restaurant.

The nearby Las Animas beach is only accessible by the sea.

Aquaventuras Water Park

Aquaventuras Water Park is located at the frontier with Nayarit state, about 14 km north of Puerto Vallarta. It bursts with fun activities including 10 water slides. This is a fantastic chance to enjoy a lazy river, pirate ship and even swimming with dolphins. Climbing walls will sharpen your adventure skills and let your kids the same.

Discover the Botanical GardenPuerto Vallarta Botanical Gardens

Botanical Gardens stretch at the picturesque mountains of Sierra Madre, south of the city. It takes 40 minutes to reach the Gardens but they offer a marvelous experience.

This relaxing paradise covers the admiring collection of native plants such as orchids, agaves, cactuses and others.

The hiking trails will let you enjoy tropical plants and you can even take a swim in Rio Horcones. The Gardens are very pretty with alluring decor. Buy tickets in advance.

Final thoughts

Puerto Vallarta offers a fantastic time on Mexico’s Pacific coast. It bursts with vibrant charm, pretty beaches and activities. Kids will love the cozy atmosphere full of artistic shine.

Lush jungles will bring outdoor fun so definitely check out the adventure parks like Nogalito Ecopark.

Puerto Vallarta surprises with the amazing treasure for all tastes and ages.

Get Travel Insurance

Unfortunately, there are a lot of things that can go wrong on any trip. Be prepared for the worst with travel insurance. We use Travelex or Safety Wing (often cheaper).

Book Flights

I use Skyscanner to find flights. I use it so much, I wrote an entire guide to finding cheap flights with Skyscanner! Another option for finding deals is FlightHub.

Book a Place to Stay

I recommend using Expedia.com or Hotels.com for most hotel bookings. I prefer to book directly with Marriott when I stay there because of their excellent military discount.

If you prefer staying in a vacation rental instead, I recommend VRBO. If you are looking for a hostel, I use HostelWorld.

Choose Activities and Tours

To find great activities in any area I use Viator. If we are visiting a city with lots of popular attractions I always check CityPass, PogoPass, and GoCard to see if they have discount cards available. Groupon also tends to have a lot of local travel deals.

When I want to book a full-on multi-day tour I use TourRadar. They’ve got fantastic weekly deals. If going somewhere in Mexico or the Caribbean, I use Apple Vacations.

Rent a Car or Get a Lyft

More often than not, Lyft is cheaper than Uber. Use my Lyft link for an $18 credit! For a car rental in any country, I recommend Hertz or Discover Cars.

Save Money on Gas

Upside a free app gets you cash back on gas! Use promo code RV2Q2 to get an extra 15¢/gal bonus on your first purchase.

Get a Visa

I use iVisa to get all of my Visas.

Are you taking your family on vacation to Puerto Vallarta?

Over the last few years, I have had the opportunity to spend lots of time down in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and it has quickly become one of my favorite places.

In fact, I love Puerto Vallarta and highly recommend visiting the area. There are so many things to do in Puerto Vallarta. After much consideration, I have put together a list of our favorite all-inclusive family resorts to help your family figure out where to stay during your own vacation!

7 Incredibly Family-Friendly All-Inclusive Resorts in Puerto Vallarta

No matter what kind of budget you are on I can pretty much guarantee that Puerto Vallarta will have an all-inclusive resort that will work for your family with stunning ocean views.

All of these resorts listed are on the beach and packed with amenities. Many of these resorts are so enjoyable you may not even leave the resort!

Dreams Vallarta Puerto Vallarta

Now Amber Kid's Club
Now Amber Kid’s Club

Dreams Vallarta formally known as Now Amber is easily one of my favorites. With multiple pools, excellent food, live nightly entertainment, and an expansive kid’s club there is so much for families to love. Mom will love the spa and the Jacuzzi tub in the rooms, teens will love their own hangout space complete with snacks and drinks, younger kids will go crazy over the incredible kid’s club here, and dad will appreciate the casino and sports bar.

All the rooms look towards the ocean and on the bottom floor, they have swim-out rooms. Now Amber aka Dreams Vallarta borders its sister resort, Secrets. This means while the kids are in their clubs, parents can go escape to Secrets from some adult-only time. Now Amber is 15 minutes from the airport.

To get a solid idea of what to expect, check out this video.

Fiesta Americana

swimming pool at Fiesta Americana

Fiesta Americana in Puerto Vallarta the sister resort to adults-only Grand Fiesta Americana easily makes this list for a lot of reasons included my personal favorite the resort has no smoking policy! Another good thing, it is a blue flag beach, a status given by the Mexican government for superior cleanliness and safety. The list goes on and on, but the staff is just phenomenal and the kid’s club and the teen club are super fun.

If you want to stay at a smaller, more intimate resort without giving up an all-inclusive experience, this is the place! You can read my full review here.

Velas VallartaVelas Vallarta

Velas Vallarta is an all-inclusive family resort located on 10 acres of oceanfront with lush gardens in Puerto Vallarta. It’s within walking distance of Marina Vallarta Golf Course and 30 – 45 minutes from downtown Puerto Vallarta. Situated on the emerald waters of Banderas Bay, Velas Vallarta features 345 suites, three swimming pools, a rejuvenating spa along with spa cabins seaside, a small fitness center, multiple restaurants, and an inviting lounge with live music.

They have two restaurants and room service is available around the clock. When it comes to daytime and evening entertainment, guests can choose from an exciting and original array of activities and events, from making piñatas and jewelry, yoga on the jetty to Mexican fiestas and casino nights. The recently renovated Kids’ Club also welcomes children under 13 with supervised activities like a treasure hunt, face painting, building sandcastles to crafting with beads.

Villa La Estancia in Riviera Nayarit

Villa EstanciaNot far from Puerto Vallarta is Riviera Nayarit, well not far is in one hour east of the airport. One of my favorite hotels in Riviera Nayarit so far is Villa La Estancia Beach Resort and Spa on Banderas Bay. I’ve only been to a few hotels in this area, so keep that in mind if you disagree with me!

They have special baby amenities like a crib, rocking chair, and ottoman. A white noise machine, baby camera compatible with an app if parents would prefer for baby to sleep in a separate room of the suite, and freshly made organic baby food for the newborn and post-natal juices for mom.

Hotel Estancia in Riviera Nayarit
Hotel Estancia in Riviera Nayarit

The pool is massive and has a swim-up bar, the spa is lovely, there’s a splash pad for younger kids, and multiple hot tubs heated to different temperatures! They have a lot of lovely family suites, enabling even large families to stay comfortably here. Some of the suites also have a washer and dryer, but you don’t have to do laundry, because at this resort one of the amenities is that they will do your laundry for you!

Their beach is gorgeous. Hotel Estancia in Riviera Nayarit

Because this is such a great option for larger families I have put together a video touring many of their suites.

Sunscape Puerto Vallarta

Sunscape Puerto Vallarta

Sunscape Puerto Vallarta has great food, amazing kid and teen clubs, a turtle release program, a safe beach, and more. This is a more affordable option for families on a budget. They often run specials for families, like two kids stay free promotions. sunscape Puerto Vallarta bunkbed room

They even have designated family rooms with bunk beds and a patio that opens up towards the kid’s club. The kid’s club is super cute and has a lot going on.

Kid's Club at Sunscape Puerto Vallarta
Kid’s Club at Sunscape Puerto Vallarta

There’s also a separate teen club. It’s an open-air hang out with a little enclosed room with gaming systems.

Teen Club at Sunscape Puerto Vallarta
Teen Club at Sunscape Puerto Vallarta

Down at the beach, they have kayaks, paddleboards, boogie boards, and snorkels.

At Coco Cafe, I recommend a latte with Amaretto and Vanilla. In addition to the restaurant options, there are also four bars (all of which are included).

The resort is in a great location in downtown Puerto Vallarta only 15 minutes from the airport and steps away from the La Isla shopping complex. It is also close to El Malecón boardwalk and historic Old Town Vallarta. Plus, you can see whales from their property between December to March.

Check current rates for Sunscape.

Here is a short video I made to give you a better look at this resort.

Riu Palace PacificoRiu Palace Pacifico

Riu Palace Pacifico in Riviera Nayarit was built in 2008. This is a pretty large resort with a massive pool. They have 448 rooms and the resort is all-inclusive only. One perk of their all-inclusive is that no reservations are needed for any of their restaurants. Oddly enough many all-inclusive properties make you reserve dining.

Riu Palace Pacifico
The lobby at Riu Palace Pacifico

The whole place is stunning and they have some nice water activities including half an hour hobby cat, windsurfing, kayaks, & boogie boards. They offer windsurfing lessons and sailing lessons. They have a book-borrowing shelf near the pool towels.

Riu Palace PacificoWhile I was here I got to have a romantic dinner on the beach. It was one of the most memorable dinners in my life so far. This was not included in the all-inclusive, but worth every penny. I cannot remember how many courses it was, but it was at least five. It started right before sunset. Riu Palace Pacifico

Hilton Vallarta Riviera All-Inclusive Resort Hilton Vallarta All-inclusive Puerto Vallarta resort

Hilton Vallarta offers sweeping ocean views over the Bay of Banderas and one of their towers offers families accommodations. (The other tower is adults-only.) The family-friendly side of the hotel will offer ocean-facing rooms and suites as well a pool area perfect for guests of all ages. The hotel offers seven all-inclusive dining experiences as well as room service, featuring healthy options and globally inspired cuisine.

The Kids Club is a colorful and bright indoor space bursting with stimulating games and activities, open daily. It features crafts stations, a lounge area with bean bags and a tv for movies and reading, and a soft play area for babies and toddlers with toys for a fun sensory experience. The complimentary activities program for kids (ages 4-12) includes inspired art projects such as jewelry making, face painting, and mini chef cooking classes. Activities such as scavenger hunts and dance classes allow children to discover new treasures and talents. Themed parties, mini disco, glow in the dark games and movie nights light up the evenings for entertainment before bedtime. Hilton Vallarta

For teens (ages 13-17) there is the teens zone – an exclusive lounge area that will offer teens the freedom of a dedicated space to relax and socialize. The space will include pool tables, air hockey, gaming stations, ping pong tables, foosball tables and board games, as well as beanbags, tv screens, and music. The space even includes a DJ lab where teens can learn to mix their favorite songs and create their very own sets and playlists.

Other activities include sports tournaments, street art and photography workshops, as well as contemporary music and dance classes. Outdoor entertainment includes beach games, volleyball, pool games, unmotorized water sports, and surfing. No matter where your family stays one thing is for sure, you are going to have a wonderful time! If you have any questions about any of these resorts do not hesitate to ask. I will do my best to find the answer for you.

If you are headed to Puerto Vallarta without the kids, I recommend Hotel Mousai, it’s got the most amazing rooftop infinity pool!

Have you been to Puerto Vallarta? Where did you stay? I would love to hear your recommendations in the comments below.

Should You Get Travel Insurance?

Don’t forget travel insurance! I’m a fan of Travelex insurance, because of the variety of options. Protect yourself from possible injury & theft abroad. I have gotten extremely sick twice now out of the country and Noah has had seizures in other countries, so I always recommend getting some sort of coverage. Read more about why you should always carry travel insurance here.

Airport Shuttle

After visiting so many times, I have a specific company I prefer to use if I am taking a shuttle from the airport or around town, I recommend Grayline.

Car Rental

If you are looking for a car rental I recommend getting the car at the Cancun Airport. It will make things easier. This entire area is easy to drive around in. Get a Puerto Vallarta car rental for $9 a day!

Hotel Mousai Adults Only

Luxury resort Hotel Mousai is an adults-only resort in Puerto Vallarta with an all-inclusive option. Hotel Mousai is the first and only AAA Five Diamond-rated resort in Puerto Vallarta. And, it’s only 15 minutes from downtown! Check current rates.

I was lucky to be sent here for 4 nights/5 days with the all-inclusive option for this review. I had a wonderful time during my stay here and I found myself wondering if this was real life over and over as I experienced all they had to offer. (At dinner, I heard a woman say out loud, “Is this real life?”, so needless to say I wasn’t the only one feeling this way. Hotel Mousai Lobby

As soon as I pulled up to the hotel I knew I was in for a treat. I mean just look at what greeted me, a grand chess-themed lobby. Whenever a staff member greeted me they referred to me as bonita (This means pretty), and I gotta say I loved that!Hotel Mousai lobby

Mousai Suite

My room at Hotel Mousai was exquisite. As soon as I walked in I was in love. It is basically all one room, but it is large and has a distinct living room, bedroom, and bathroom. It is a total of 1,069 sq.ft. They have bigger suites available with larger patios. However, I saw no need for a bigger room. This is more than enough for two people. I highly recommend staying here is you are going to Puerto Vallarta on your honeymoon. Hotel Mousai One king bed suite

Inside that mini fridge is beer, wine, and small bottles of liquor. All of which is included in the all-inclusive stay. Of course, it’s only one bottle of each liquor that’s included. Once you have finished one, you have to pay for the second one. Also tucked away in there is a fancy espresso machine. It was so fancy, I had to ask a staff member to show me how to use it.

I am unsure if all guests are greeted with champagne, but I had a bottle of champagne waiting for me when I arrived. Basically, the first thing I did was pop open that champagne and lounge in the hammock on the balcony. Hotel Mousai suite living room

The bathroom is beautiful. Not pictured is the separate vanity where you can sit and get ready. Also, not pictured the Toto comfort toilet aka a heated toilet. That’s right all the toilets in the hotel are heated. If you’ve never had the pleasure of experiencing a heated toilet, then you are in for a real treat.

Bathrobes, flip flops, and a beach bag are also in the bathroom for you to use during your stay. Be sure to bring a hat and sunscreen!Hotel Mousai suite bathroom

Beach view from Hotel Mousai balcony

Every room has a balcony with a hot tub, hammock, lounge chair, and couch. And yes, that’s a golden wall and golden hot tub.

Oh, and check out the view from the balcony!terrace suites at hotel mousaiHotel Mousai discount dealRooftop Pool

When I was sitting out on the rooftop pool I felt as if a dream I never knew I had was coming true. There I was relaxing with my new favorite cocktail, a Geisha, having my favorite food, chips and salsa. Behind me, a DJ was playing festive music while a trumpet player played along with him. In front of me were some of the most incredible views I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying. Hotel Mousai rooftop pool

Incredible Food and Cocktails

Whether I dined in a restaurant or ordered room service, everything I had to eat was excellent. Typically this is not something you can say at most all-inclusive resorts. Hotel Mousai has three restaurants to choose from, plus the resort just below their property is their sister resort Garza Blanca Preserve where you will find three more restaurants, all of which are included.

Juevos rancheros and a cappuccino for breakfast on my private patio. Shrimp tacos for lunch up at the rooftop pool.  Hotel Mousai tacos at the pool

Hiroshi Sushi RestaurantHotel Mousai

One of the on-site restaurants at Mousai is Hiroshi, a sushi restaurant and quite possibly the best sushi in Puerto Vallarta. All the food and cocktails we had here were incredible. Plus, while we dined, we were entertained by a fabulous sunset and a violin player. Hotel Mousai sushi

Activities Included!

paddle board at Hotel Mousai

Hotel Mousai has many activities included as part of your stay. We enjoyed paddle boarding, kayaking, out to Los Arcos and snorkeling while here. They offer guided waterfall jungle hikes and yoga sessions too. The snorkeling is good, better than I anticipated. The kayaking out to Los Arcos was strenuous. I was glad I was with the guide, he did most of the work getting out there while I took pictures!

Here is an example of the weekly activities. Hotel Mousai weekly activities

Spa Imagine

Spa Imagine has an enjoyable hydrotherapy ritual with a steam room, sauna, hot tub, pressure massage shower, and a vitality pool aka a cold plunge pool. In addition to doing the hydrotherapy, I had a one-hour massage. I have had many massages and this was the best massage I have ever had. As my treatment started, my therapist told me I deserved this. I was like dang girl you are right! I have a somewhat bad back and this gal got up on the table and dug deep. It was awesome.

Are you looking for an all-inclusive family-friendly resort in Puerto Vallarta? If you said yes, then this review of Fiesta Americana is for you!

Fiesta Americana Puerto Vallarta - an all inclusive kid friendly resort

Taking the family to Mexico for an all-inclusive vacation is one of the most enjoyable ways to vacation.

Why? Because when you stay at an all-inclusive resort, there’s no work for parents. On top of that kids stay well-fed and entertained. (It also doesn’t hurt that mama has access to bottomless booze.)

Fiesta Americana Puerto Vallarta

There are many reasons Fiesta Americana, an all-inclusive family-friendly resort, is one of my favorite resorts in Puerto Vallarta for families. The resort has a ton of amenities. Their #1 amenity, in my opinion, is the no-smoking policy! When I am on vacation, I do not want to sit around in someone else’s smoke.

Other fantastic amenities include the beach! The beach has more palm trees than any other beach in the area and it’s a blue flag beach, a status given by the Mexican government for superior cleanliness and safety. And the location is excellent.  The resort is at the North end of the hotel zone, only 5 minutes from downtown which means shopping!

Fiesta Americana family room sleeps up to six peopleFamily Rooms

The hotel is a crescent shape and all of the 291 rooms have an ocean view. If you’ve come all the way to Mexico, to the beach, shouldn’t you have a room that overlooks the ocean.

Some of the rooms also have views of the city, including family rooms that can accommodate a family of six. The hotel was originally built in 1979 and though it’s been remodeled they were able to retain some of the original touches like the beautiful stones in the floor are the originals. One of the most interesting features in the room is the double-sided closet. The closet is accessible from the bathroom and the bedroom.

All rooms have 24-hour room service. If you upgrade to the lounge floor for  $65- $75 extra you will have access to the lounge. In the lounge, they have breakfast in the morning and a tapas and wine hour in the afternoons. I personally wouldn’t opt for the upgrade, but I’m cheap like that.

Fiesta Americana SpaSpa

The spa is lovely with his and her saunas and steam rooms and an outdoor sanctuary with a bubbling pool. They have a special room just for couples that comes with an outdoor area attached to a Jacuzzi. I had a massage while I was here and it was excellent. I loved the private room with the outdoor shower. I also took a nap in their outdoor sanctuary. I would have sat in the bubbling pool, but the water was not hot. I do not understand the purpose of a lukewarm pool with bubbles.

Next to the spa is a full gym that is open every day 7 AM – 10 PM. I looked at the gym and thought I should work out. I could have had a great workout in there because it was better than a typical hotel gym. Unfortunately, I never managed to convince myself to workout.

Kids club at Fiesta AmericanaFiesta Americana Kid’s Club

For kids ages 4-12 years old there is an indoor kid’s club. Kids can hang out at the kid’s club during the day where they participate in activities like sandcastle making, bracelet making, and feeding fish. At night twice a week, there’s a pajama party. While your kid parties, you can have a date night. Now I didn’t do this, because I’m single and I don’t want to eat by myself and I’m not picking up someone off the internet to dine with. Well, not yet.

If parents need more than one or two nights out, the resort can arrange for one of the staff members to babysit the kids. (Babysitting is an additional charge, $150 pesos an hour, and the staff member that babysits keeps all the money. The hotel does not take a cut. I thought that was nice.)

Outside near the pool in another kid’s area with child-size lounge chairs, a swing set, and a little house. The lounge chairs are able to hold an adult. And if your child wants to play down at the beach in the sand they have beach toys available.

For kids ages 13 and above, there is a teen club. Luckily they are not too picky on the ages that come in here. This was a big deal to me because Jonah doesn’t want to go into the kid’s club, he wants to hang out with his siblings in the teen club. Here at Fiesta Americana, he can.

swimming pool at Fiesta Americana

Swimming pool

Fiesta Americana keeps the pool heated in winter, which is good, because a great time to visit is between December and March when the whales are in the area. Around the pool you will find 10 cabanas that can be rented for the day, the cost is around 850 pesos. The cabana comes with a bottle of champagne and a shoulder massage.

Currently there is only one swimming pool, but that will change soon with the addition of the new palapa they have almost finished building. On the top will be an infinity pool for adults only. They also mention that they might move the outside kid’s area and put in a kiddie pool, but it didn’t look like that would be anytime soon.

Entertainment

The resort has a lot of outdoor dinner shows including a Mexican theme night every Friday. This event includes local vendors and a live Mariachi band. Other shows include a fire show, Star Wars night, and a Michael Jackson show. Oddly, enough as I have traveled around I have been surprised by the number of resorts that have a Michael Jackson show. I don’t know why this is.

If you want to venture out and go clubbing the club close by, La Santa, offers Fiesta Americana guests free admission. Plus, the hotel can pick you up when you are done, if needed! I didn’t go here, but I looked it up and I am definitely going next time. It looks fun and the dress code is anywhere between casual and dressy.

They currently do not offer any non-motorized water sports. They do offer ceramic painting for a $1 which could be a fun parent and child activity if you like that kind of stuff. When I paint pottery it’s never worth keeping.

fresh fish at Fiesta Americana

Fiesta Americana Food

Fiesta Americana boasts 8 restaurants and multiple bars. They have fresh seafood daily because they buy fish every day for local fishermen. If guests catch a fish out on a fishing excursion the hotel will cook it. I personally think fish are disgusting, but apparently many people enjoy them and this is a major perk of staying here.

One restaurant you cannot miss is La Cevicheria where you can dine on exquisite food right on the beach. In the evenings they have three superb specialty restaurants, including an Asian, Italian, and Mexican. And coming soon will be a brand new buffet down by the beach.

Fiesta Americana prides itself on being a resort that guests will come back to year after year. When you visit more than five times you become a VIP. VIPs receive special privileges like a chef’s table lobster dinner in the brand new palapa. I’ve only been to a few places more than five times, like Disney World. Sadly, Disney has not made me a VIP, but they do smile as they take my money!

Are you looking for an adult-only all-inclusive resort in Puerto Vallarta?

I’ve taken two adults-only getaways this year to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and loved them both. Last time I stayed at Hotel Mousai, but this time I stayed at the Hilton Vallarta formally known as Grand Fiesta Americana resort. For this review, I am covering the adults-only portion of the resort.

Hilton Vallarta

Hilton Vallarta is the newest adults-only all-inclusive resort in Puerto Vallarta south of downtown with a separate tower that is family-friendly. One of the perks of staying here is that every single room has an ocean view and a balcony! And if you visit in November, you might catch a glimpse of the whales coming through.

I really enjoyed my room. Here is a tour of the room I stayed in.

Grand Lounge

If I stayed here again, I would probably upgrade to a VIP Grand Suite. For about $80 more, you get one bottle of wine, two massages, and a cabana. Plus, you get access to the Grand Lounge. In the evenings the lounge has sushi, drinks, and desserts. For breakfast they have a wide spread of items. img 4249 1

Hilton Vallarta Restaurants and Bars

There are 8 restaurants and 7 bars at Grand Fiesta Americana and they are all included! I never had a bad meal here and I was able to try almost all the restaurants.

At Ceviche I enjoyed shrimp tacos al Pastor. img 4011

I managed to have something different each of the nights I stayed including a visit to each of the gourmet restaurants featuring Italian, Asian, traditional Mexican food.

There is a buffet available for breakfast and dinner. The buffet restaurant becomes an Argentina restaurant 3 times a week.

There are three specialty themed bars: Mojito, Martini & Tequila and each is open daily from  5 PM – 10:30 PM. The Mojito lounge was my favorite, because of the menu and the swings. There I am with a Mojito, in a swing, watching the ocean!

snapseed
The other bar worth mentioning is the Sky bar overlooking the pool and ocean. It is open from 7 pm – 1 am. The best part of hanging out up here are the two hot tubs. They will come take your drink order as you sit in the hot tub.

Party Rooms

If you want more of a party experience book a Party room. These rooms include admission to clubs in town and they are located close to sky bar. Prices for these rooms vary by season.

Amenities

The resort has lots of amenities including:

  • Beach club
  • Beach bar
  • Volleyball
  • Kayaking
  • Private beach – One of the best amenities is their private beach perfect for swimming.
  • Free wifi available all around the resort.
  • Daily entertainment either inside or outside, depending on the weather.
  • Stocked mini bars
  • Infinity poolimg 4123
  • Free parking
  • Fitness center – They have some great equipment in this gym. I was able to get in an excellent workout lifting weights.
  • Rice art – if you are celebrating a special occasion your room with have decorative rice art work on the bed.

Paddle boards are not included in the all-inclusive rate. Instead, they cost around $30 an hour to rent.

Haixa Spa

My favorite amenity was the Haixa spa. I spent an afternoon there getting a massage and enjoying the sauna, steam room, and hot tub. The hot tub is coed, but all the other facilities are either just for women or just for men. Know that the Swedish massage is pretty light here. If you like pressure go for a different massage.
