Hilton Cancun Mar Caribe

Last week I was lucky enough to be one of the first travel writers to experience Hilton Cancun Mar Caribe formally known as Royal Uno All-Inclusive Resort & Spa. I gotta say they’ve knocked it out of the park with this beachfront property located in the world-famous Cancun Hotel Zone. Royal Uno Cancun

Sometimes when companies do a refresh like this on an older property it isn’t a huge difference but this just isn’t the case at Hilton Cancun Mar Caribe. They gutted it and completely redid it. The resort features an impressive array of amenities including two oversized pools, a children’s pool with a water play area, Alea Spa, watersports, a swim-up bar, and a beach bar with swings. The resort was extremely family-friendly.

Kids Club Kids club at Royal Uno

The kids club was super clean and all the kids I saw in there playing appeared to be having a wonderful time.

There is a mascot that floats around the resort. It typically makes an appearance in the lobby to keep kids entertained while families wait for their rooms.

There’s not much to this family Room but they do have an area for video games and movies, a pool table, and more.

Hilton Cancun Mar Caribe Rooms

Grand Suite at Royal Uno Resort in Cancun

Royal Uno is home to 540 rooms that are retro-decorated to remind you of old-school Cancun. All rooms and suites feature an open design, a private ocean-view terrace or balcony, queen or king-size beds, smart TV, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth speakers, a coffee maker, and a minibar. Some of the rooms have Nespresso machines.

Equipped for a comfortable and relaxing stay, the suites feature an independent living and dining area, a tub and separate shower in the bathrooms plus a spacious terrace for those magical Caribbean sunrises. The Romance Suites also offer jacuzzis, and there are 13 ground-floor beachfront suites with plunge pools.

Spectacular BeachRoyal Uno Cancun beach

I was BLOWN away by the beach. It was perfect. The color of the ocean was mesmerizing, the beach was clean, and there was no seaweed! The hotel is in the hotel zone which basically only has nice beaches. I didn’t edit this photo, that’s exactly what it looks like! the waves were perfect and people were boogieboarding.

PoolsPools around Royal Uno Cancun Resort

They say they have two pools and that is true. There are two main pools, but the adults-only Star bar has four pools and then there is an area overlooking the ocean that also has four pools. There are also a handful of super nice rooms that have plunge pools right outside their doors. I was super jealous that I didn’t have one.

Restaurants at Hilton Cancun Mar Caribe

Royal Uno offers an exclusive dining experience with seven restaurants and bars serving international, Mexican, Italian, and Asian cuisine, a café, and a Grab & Go counter. They also have a couple of nice bars. Kids have a separate band that distinguishes that they are a minor and are not to be served at any of the bars. I appreciate this since I have a 15-year-old that everyone thinks is 22!

PalotintePalotinte at Royal Uno Resort

Mexican food! You cannot go to Mexico and not consume as much Mexican food as possible. They have a roaming taco cart serving tacos al pastor (my favorite), it’s a must! Make a reservation. Dress attire: Resort casual

MiamareMiamare at Royal Uno Cancun

This is an Italian restaurant and they are dishing up some delicious pastas, pizzas, and more.  Stir up some drinks alongside Royal Uno’s mixologist to learn a new cocktail recipe or two. They serve an aperitif made with aperol and juices that can only be found at this restaurant. It’s delicious so be sure to order one. Sadly, I cannot remember the name of it. Make a reservation. Dress attire: Resort casual

AoraAora restaurant at Royal Uno Cancun

Aora is the resort’s Asian restaurant serving dishes from Japan, China, Thailand, and India or Teppanyaki-style dishes. Your kids will love the Teppanyaki as they cook right in front of them and set things on fire! Make a reservation. Dress attire: Resort casual

Faro 32 Coffee Shop

Faro 32 Coffee Shop is the best place to grab some coffee and enjoy it with some cookies, pastries, ice cream, or crepes.

Star BarStar Bar at Royal Uno

Royal Uno’s rooftop bar serves crisp cocktails and fresh ceviche. This cool open-air bar is ideal for a Cancun afternoon taking in the sweeping vistas of the Caribbean blues. Plus, there are no kids allowed so it’s extremely quiet.

Alea Spa

Alea Spa at Royal Uno The spa was absolutely delightful. They have a hydrotherapy with a steam/sauna, cold plunge pool, warm jacuzzi, hot jacuzzi, and some outdoor relaxation areas. I had a Swedish massage while I was there and it was so good I kept falling asleep.

Fitness CenterFitness Center at Royal Uno

The fitness center was well-equipped. Free weights, weight machines, and cardio machines are available. There are foam rollers too.

Recommended Attire

The climate in Cancun is semi-tropical, with an average yearly temperature of 78°F, which can rise to 95° in the summer. Comfortable casual attire for the day and casual resort wear for the evening is recommended. I did a terrible job packing, so be sure to pack your bag with the following:

  • Casual and dressy resort wear for the evening
  • Dry fit, lightweight pants, and long sleeve shirt
  • Bathing suit
  • Sunscreen and hat
  • Sandals and water shoes
  • Toiletries and personal medications
  • Sunglasses
  • Phone charger

  1. Hi there! with this being a new (-ish) resort, i’m having difficulty finding this info online, but wondering if you’d be able to answer. Is room service food included or is there an additional charge? Was the food good? Also, do you know if they have babysitting/nanny services available? If so, do you know how much it costs? And did you have any issues with noise late at night or with bugs in the rooms or anywhere else on the resort? Thanks so much in advance! Your post was very helpful!

    1. Yes, there is room service. It was included in my all-inclusive package. The food was great, no complaints.
I had no issues with noise at night. And I had no issues with bugs. I don’t know if they have babysitting.

  2. A. Hoffman says:

Thanks for the thorough review! Is the ocean fairly rough? As in, too rough for young kids to play safely in? With adult supervision of course. Tempted to stay here but want to stay somewhere that my 3 and 8 year old children can enjoy some ocean time and not just beach time.

    1. Depends on when you go. The entire time I was there the wind was so high I couldn’t fly my drone so the waves were worse as well.

      1. A. Hoffman says:

Thank you for the reply. Do you know if excursion tours pick up at this resort?

  3. Do you know if they allow visitors for a fee during the day?

  4. Do you know if there was an additional charge to use the gym and hydrotherapy? Last time I was at a Royal Resort was 10 years ago and I paid for a week pass to use the gym and sauna at the Royal Sands. We had a timeshare at the Royal Caribbean as kids (like 30 years ago) so thinking of booking a trip to the Royal Uno. Thanks for the great info!

    1. There is definitely an extra charge to use the hydrotherapy, but not the gym. The gym is included.

  5. Hi! I was looking at the different options on their website and I noticed there is a package option that includes “premium food and drinks” and one does not. I assumed everything was all inclusive, so I am a bit confused. Do you happen to know the answer?

    1. They have an all-inclusive option and a not all-inclusive option.
